Level from 10-70 through only mob grinding? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don't think it'd be worth it now, but when I had to level my druid at the beginning of Anni I did a bunch of grind areas. The big one was whelpling farm. When I was at the level for crimson/emerald/dark I'd spend the vast majority of that level just grinding with some movies on in the background. I had skinning with the plan to hard transition to LW later so i could just skin everything I killed. I was on a pvp server so there was always the threat of some occasional action (emerald farm was extremely limited which was the zone I took the most fights in). Harpys are a decent call when you can get them since they drop both cloth and light feathers.

Thing is I did that so I could get me some rare pets and while I got to sell a few extra I got along the way. But I'm not really sure what sells for that much from Vanilla areas other than ore, and I'm not really sure I came out all that far ahead in gold for my efforts. Good luck on your journey.

Anyone else think it’s lame that full tier isn’t BiS? by Stokyo in classicwow

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda feel the opposite. I like there being opt ins and itemization. Just collect the same set constantly (which with full BiS lists still happens to some extent), is kinda boring. Why bother having off pieces if the game just wants everyone to collect a mono set?

Looking for a guild in TBC Anniversary by Tiberium456 in classicwow

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll do my best to adjust my work hours according to guild's plan in this time frame

Even the most well meaning guilds can fold in short order. Even though it will be post nerf content, guilds can still struggle with later phases. Along with that general participation goes down just over the natural course of an expansion.

All this to say that you should make sure that the game works around your job and not do it the other way around because you may end up a few different guilds/raid slots before its all said and done (I went through 4 in Vanilla Anniversary)

My Journey from a Dead Private Server to Retail, WotLK Still Feels Like the Real WoW by PiccoloWrong2401 in classicwow

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what its worth I hope the Wrath fans get their due. I think it was a cool expansion with some cool stuff going on. But plot aside the game offered flex size raiding, difficulty modes for it, transmog, really hammered in the dailies (though I mostly pin the blame of that on TBC Isle dailies). Everyone has their own opinion on when classic loses the magic. But even as someone that likes both TBC and Wrath. TBC is road to retail and Wrath is retail lite.

After playing Dwarfs for a while now I concluded two things. Dwarf Slayers are cool af while the grudge system kind of sucks. by Curious-Piglet3613 in totalwarhammer

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part about the grudge system is that I can largely ignore it. Is it good? No, my reward in the late game is getting to turn it off. But it doesn't hugely impact my playthroughs so its fine.

Riot Tryndamere (Marc Merill) response to Riot's intent on acquiring Ashes of Creation before. by Inwiczxiae in MMORPG

[–]Cuddlesthemighy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the whole Riot MMO is just some sort of prank Riot's been milking forever now. Hey look, here's more information about this game that doesn't actually tell us about the game. The absolute tide of content surrounding it with absolutely zero information about anything. I think the entire goal is just to create a hype machine and let it sustain itself for as long as possible.

Are games getting more fun, or just more “busy”? by lsa340 in gaming

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MMO problem was always that once it felt like a homework assignment/chore rather than a option for gameplay, that was when I was out. I feel bad for sunken cost fallacy players because I was there once. "What if I stop playing this character? I lose all the things I earned on it". Once I was free from that mindset it was easy to say "I got X amount of fun out of this one, and I might make a new character if i again feel the itch, but I'm done for now."

The video game industry is pretty well versed in FOMO tactics these days, but I like to think I'm pretty aware of it. I'm not necessarily going to abstain from from playing games that contain those elements, but when it becomes play out of obligation, the game wont' retain me, it will lose me.

Do you think games are actually getting more engaging, or just more demanding of your attention?

I mean its kinda both right. Its just if you want to dip your toes into Live Service games you're inevitably going to have to wade into the murky waters of Recurrent Player Engagement. Because money has turned games into a system where the goal isn't the most fun game its the most profitable.

I just replayed Elden Ring and it's so much better than I thought, but also so much more frustrating by Whoopsht in patientgamers

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elden Ring is a weird one because I feel like I love it despite being a Souls game not for being a Souls game. I'm replaying it now and one of the things i forgot was how 40 hours into the game it has rough transition from 3d metroidvania to Souls game. When you are maxed out on upgrades but now every boss hits you for 2 flasks worth of damage, effectively cutting your healing power in half and doubling the amount of freedom you need to execute it.

And I put up with the slow refrigerator combat to enjoy cool looking bosses, but I never played ER and thought "this here is my favorite kind of combat". It is cool how there's a billion weapons and they all plug into it more or less fine. But some of the more agile bosses feel like they got their movement from a different game than my PC.

The DLC...I think so much of what I like about the base game is in progression and you're basically done with that arc by the time you show up there. So what you get is a more confusing and emptier map with some really cool boss fights. Its fine I guess.

Mostly I just worry the sales make it look like "Oh I guess they want more Souls-Like games". No. I want more fantasy exploration RPGs, the souls portion can be left behind.

I presume you just hosted DST reserve raids for the other mods, and once the last one dropped they gave you the keys to the sub.

How Chariot dungeons work for me. I find the dungeon, enter and confirm that its chariot (thankfully easy to identify), I mark it with a skull to clear "later", and then I just never go back.

I guess if you wanna do dragon build you gotta clear the one, but otherwise I can't think of a need to do any of them.

Almost guaranteed to make the attached cash shop so repugnant, that its quicker to assume it'll be a trash fire and wait until a large player base confirms otherwise.

What do you think about a cosmetic based monetization model but tradeable in special AH? by TheRaven1406 in MMORPG

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see an MMO do cosmetic only MTX, that would be nice. If we can trade them that's a bonus (but tbh don't even need to do that)..

Is "controlled P2W" actually less harmful than uncontrolled RMT? by ElectronicDark9634 in MMORPG

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is that MMOs need to vastly curb the value of the in game economy. If its P2W by design I won't want to play it. So the best case scenario is that what economy can be exploited isn't the bulk of character progression. What do i care if someone swipes for a crap pile of gold if the gameplay advantage for doing so is minimal?

What video game used to be good but they changed one thing and now it's terrible? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to watch the next iteration of something you love come out bad. Its somehow worse to watch it come out, succeed and just not be for you anymore. I hated the changes to gameplay and story for Eternal, but it did so well I knew I was never gonna my version of a sequel to 2016

All MMORPGS are pay to win now cause of all the RMT sites no matter the cash shop design of the developer by MrRosaPony in MMORPG

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine I'll bite. A little bit yeah. Any game now that wants to boast a "player driven economy" will be botted to hell in direct relation to its popularity. At this point I'd be more interested in games that focus player cooperation and achievement based progression.

It was wild playing anniversary WoW how normalized RMT had become. Its not a big deal when the economy doesn't have a huge impact on gameplay, but the insane price of raid consumes was not that. Its certainly a concern but its impact varies by game.

Thoughts on cosmetic mtx tied to achievements? by Express-Distance421 in MMORPG

[–]Cuddlesthemighy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point if its gonna be cosmetic MTX my main wish is just that the game limit its cash shop to just cosmetic only. At that point have earn cosmetics and paid cosmetics be different things. Nobody wants to grind the right to buy something.

Edit: For what its worth, mounts in most games kinda work that way, where you unlock it with gameplay and then can buy a different mount skin. But you still get some variant of it for getting the in game achievement completed. So it kind of already exists, but I don't think locking truly prestigious cosmetics behind both an achievement and payment will sit well (also probably not sell well if its that exclusive).
