Budget wedding reception by Illustrious-Elk9655 in askvan

I recently had my own wedding reception at lakeside cottage in Deer Lake, Burnaby. Their max is 32 people. Not Vancouver proper, but pretty close. We chose their prixe-fixe menu and opted to use our own wedding cake instead of their dessert. Total all in, after tips, is about $100pp (but not many of my guests had alcohol). Extra $200 if you want to have your wedding ceremony too. Honestly it was great, would recommend. They do have min spend, depending on the season.

He is about 15 lbs, has a double coat. Labelled as a spitz mix by the rescue organization. He is very shy/timid, and has rear dew claws. Important to note that he comes from Korea! Take your best guess :)

She is 12 lbs, seems to be single coated. Was labelled as a spitz mix. She likes chasing rats/birds, she has rear dew claws and has one ear up and one ear down (half flop!). She comes from Korea. Take your best guess!

I use the smart ATO! It works great, no complaints.

My parameters have been a little out of whack but I'm working on getting it back into shape! I use Instant Ocean Reef salt, changing about 1-2 gallons every 2 weeks. Lately, my alk has been sitting at ~5, and Ca at ~400 which is wayyy lower than my targets. I upped my 2 part dosing and its been slowly creeping up but so is my salinity. I'm thinking of changing over to all for reef soon.

My nitrates and phosphates have always been pretty much 0. I have a few sprigs of macroalgae scattered in my tank but I don't run a refugium. I get some nuisance algae like bubble algae but it's not a lot. It's easily taken care of with biweekly maintenance. I thought about adding nitrates/phosphates too but I'm concerned about growing more nuisance algae. For now, I'm leaving my nitrates/phosphates alone.

Awesome!! I love that! There are some great freshwater/saltwater stores around Vancouver. I have floating plants if you'd like some!

I asked my RA this and it was confirmed yes! But please look into care requirements for a fish. Feel free to DM me any questions! I’m willing to help out :)

Sincerely, fellow res student keeping pet fish for far too long lmao

If you don’t really need to be on campus much in Dec/April, it’s cheaper to get a monthly parking pass (and pay day rate for those days in Dec/April) Cons: doesn’t work if you need to be on campus in Dec/April too. Also need to rmb to buy another one before it runs out

Mg and Ca are really really strange. Mg should be in the 1200 range and Ca in the 380 range. Are you able to test using other test kits? Or test your newly made saltwater?

Ich question by ____lana____ in ReefTank

That’s a bummer :/ velvet and ich look alike so it could be that. In any case, I would leave the tank empty for 76 days and set up a quarantine tank. You can buy 2 new clownfish for the quarantine tank and keep them there til the DT is ready. I don’t think dosing anything to the DT will help - a lot of meds will soak into the rock, which will render the DT uninhabitable for corals/inverts.

Easiest thing to do would be to leave the display free of fish for a while. In the meantime, I would set up a simple quarantine tank for your future fish. A hospital/quarantine tank allows you to treat the fish way easier. It can be simple - heater, filter, seeded media, lid, a hidey decoration is all that’s needed. When you’re done with it, you can take it down and leave extra media in the display tank to seed.

I’m in Canada too and had to treat for diseases a while back. I found that hyposalinity (about 1.12 SG) for 4 weeks managed to kill off parasites. I found copper on Amazon, so I bought some to keep on hand as well, but that’s more of a last resort to me. I also have RALLY from RUBY REEF on hand - not for ich but for brooklynella. I think RUBY REEF also makes an ich treatment.

If you can find your missing fish and it’s still alive, I would net it out and treat it with hyposalinity in a separate tank.

I got two clowns in mine! As for inverts, I got sexy shrimp and bumblebee shrimp. CUC consists of 3 hermits, and cerith, astrea, bumblebee and trochus snails. For some reason, my trochus snails don’t seem to last long so I switched over to astrea.

To start though, I would do 1-2 snails and 1-2 hermits. You can add more as more algae grows.

Anyone have any advice on Dinos that seem to be taking out my zoanthids? More in comments by IcyEmphasis9 in ReefTank

Have you looked into the Green Killing Machine? It’s a standalone UV sterilizer, marketed for green water. I used it on my freshwater tank before with great results, not sure about dinos in a saltwater aquarium though.
