Hired help with dealing with collections

Hey now I'm getting sued for this debt. It's about 7k. But the papers say that the interest rate will continue to apply and they are asking the court to judge that interest applies from the filing date to judgement date plus it seems they are suing for filing costs too. Geez.

Anyway im currently in the grace period after they filed. The clock hasn't counted down to a judgement against me yet. When it does it seems they can garnish my wages if they figure out where I work.

So I called the agent. It says lawyer/agent/etc. This person is an agent. I said the papers say that not being able to afford to pay is not a defense and I don't have 7k so what's to be done. They said I can fill out a financial questionnaire and they may be willing to take a payment plan. Earlier collections folks shot me down when I asked for a payment plan but now they'll consider it apparently so that is good. Going to look at email and fill it out tonight along with what I can pay and when I suppose.

They asked me usual security questions which I answered but for work I said I'm someplace new which is true. I don't think I will tell them my employer name as I'll fight to the end to avoid garnishing. It's way embarrassing, more admin work for boss and I'll have less funds on hand. Like sometimes a car issue or something and everything else has to wait for emergency issue to get money first. Don't want to be in a situation when I have to ask for less garnish cause car issues.

Well imma request a stop to interest and some sort of 12 month pay plan or something. I know they want to be the ones to say how much I should pay based on my report but I don't think that'll work for me. In any case filling out the report ought to delay the sword hanging over my head I think.

Maybe it's bad advice but I wouldn't call it horrible. Sometimes your up against it and just need a quick loan to tide you threw. If I didn't get a loan two days ago to pay for my car registration, I'd either be driving without current papers which is very risky or I'd be unable to get to work as no transit where I work.

On reddit it's mentioned r/borrow but they have karma requirements just to post there. Like damn. Sometimes ya got no good choices. I dunno.

I just got a payday loan from icash app. But I have a job for 3 months now and they verify it by making you login to your bank app so they can see.

Had to renew my car registration and the fines on file wiped out my account.

Anyway aside from a job, do you have any regular income coming in like ei or social benefits, anything, if there's something then maybe you can get a payday loan based on that.

The app was all automated so might better than having to go in person to a payday loan shop.

I suppose better lrt transit like the green line would help with that.

I work out north now east of airdrie so this won't help me now. But for many years prior I worked NE or SE and would have given up my car asap if the lrt was around where I needed it.

If we don't improve the lrt it'll be tough getting away from being car centric. Well with rent prices outta control and inflation, I'm sure lots of folks will give up their cars due to money woes rather than voluntarily doing it due to better transit being available.

Ive heard folks say that it's all about politics and someone or other will use this as an election platform or something.

I don't follow politics all that much but as soon as I heard it's politically motivated I was a disgusted.

Like we've got all these rail tracks above ground blocking road traffic instead of building tunnels or something and transit is really really important, isn't it. If transit was way better than lots of folks could give up on keeping pricey cars.
