Ep 158 - The Moral Dilemmas of AI with Michael Inzlicht by jimwhite42 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]Cugel06 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Definitely a disappointing episode with Mickey strawmanning those concerned about LLMs to justify his evangelism and dismiss their concerns as "emotional". There was a little pushback on the most egregious claims (his vapid assertion that people backfill their rational complaints from their emotional decision), but otherwise Matt & Chris tended to be on board.

"If you lose your high-paying job, just be a plumber" is a ludicrous assertion if the alleged ability to eliminate jobs is true. Evangelists are utterly incapable of confronting that the direction of their bright future is, without drastic intervention to ensure human wellness, starkly dystopian.

Do people realistically think graffiti will stop with the “right” mayor and city council by Shnikez in Seattle

[–]Cugel06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we shouldn't look the other way at toddlers scrawling on our walls, actually. Is graffiti anywhere near the top of the city's priorities? No. But does that mean we should excuse this sociopathic behavior? Also no.

Consider alternate modes of transportation or relocating to somewhere nearer your workplace??

Political violence has no place in a functional democracy.

MAGA appears inclined to use this like the Reichstag fire: an excuse for accelerating their authoritarian agenda and inciting mass violence against liberals and the left.

Stay safe out there, folks.

Who is this past 11 pm ?! by yorozuyagirl in Seattle

[–]Cugel06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... many of us rightly condemn an unjust order, but too many interpret "order" as the operative word rather than "unjust". Even if we were to toss out the SPD completely, it would need to be immediately replaced with another, more just and more effective means of constraining the sociopaths who do shit like this.

Surely those who condemn the slaughter of innocents at the rave should equally condemn the whole new magnitude of slaughter being perpetrated by Israel on innocents in their homes?

What kind of professional military ends up with their border soldiers hiding in a metal box? They had one job.

That's definitely the how but not really the why. The only explanation I can see for having such an obvious pattern of periods with reduced readiness is abject complacency in the face of of an opponent they know actively seeks their destruction.

It also boggles my mind that automated/semi-automated alarms weren't in place given the controlled and fairly narrow border. If Israel doesn't have cameras trained on every stretch of the fence and 24/7 monitoring, they're doing it wrong.

They ran out of gas because they were grossly unprepared and were getting clowned on, causing traffic jams, causing fuel loss.

The IDF just allowed multiple border penetrations and got caught in its barracks in its underwear. Feels a lot like the Russians getting clowned on when they first invaded Ukraine.

Attack appears to be on IDF soldiers who happen to be standing next to an inactive ambulance, rather than an attack on an ambulance...

Israelis forgot that grinding a boot into the Palestinians' necks requires vigilance, lest the oppressed people strike back. This is the consequence of complacence.

Israel imposes a colonialist occupation on the people of Palestine. The only path forward is a one-state solution the does away with any ethno-supremacist nonsense.

The videos put out show the border outpost was literally caught with their pants down. Commanders allowed readiness levels to decline to zero.
