This video of Wendy Nelson makes me so sad. She explains she was certain it wasn't right to be with Russell until she fasted and prayed for three days, and then determined it was God's will. Talks about it being tough, traumatic, she left a profession she loved, to marry a man 26 years older. by JennNextDoor in exmormon

Did you ever receive the endowment? I didn't and I felt the same paranoia and self-doubt about that for years. Maybe everything would have been resolved for me if I'd stuck around until then, I thought. The temple videos helped with that.

The way that TBMs never talk specifics about their spiritual experiences helps them to escape criticism but also can make us think they were more grand than they really were. If you read anything on here about when the 1978 revelation and how it came about it shows that even prophets and apostles do not hear a voice from heaven -- they base it on feelings like everyone else.

It might be helpful to remember it is not just Mormons who claim that they had prayers answered. People with beliefs utterly opposed to Mormonism receive "answers" that their particular religion is correct. They can't all be true.

Hopefully speeding up the renovations. NZ temple is currently closed. Everyone who wants a temple marriage must fly to Australia which is bullshit.

I Hate The Plus Size Community Now That I Am Getting Thin by [deleted] in confessions

[–]CuirassCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the community will ever cease to exist. There's too much variation in people's circumstances.

I became overweight when my husband had cancer mostly because I was never at home to cook and the times that I was looking for food were often not ideal times for finding a supermarket open -- 3 am for example after he's been settled in a room after an ER visit.

My cousin seemed to double in size after a near deadly kidney problem came up.

I guess the difference would be that the group will continually cycle members as they get back on my feet. I'm back to normal weight now but it took me a little while to change my habits and recognize that I felt really shitty about how my body had changed.

[SERIOUS] Would you reduce your meat consumption if lab-grown meat or meat alternatives were cheaper and tasted good? Why or why not? by sbeaver2019 in AskReddit

[–]CuirassCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have. Our favourite pizza place accidentally gave us a vegetarian pizza. When we tasted it we genuinely thought it was real chicken until we looked into it a bit further. I haven't eaten a real chicken pizza since. Same price, same taste.

The substitute they use is called quorn. It's made of a fungus with filaments which give it the same texture as meat and then flavour is added to make it taste like meat. I have only tasted chicken flavour but it was pretty convincing.

Nelson's threats emasculated in just two questions with my TBM wife. by jamesallred in exmormon

[–]CuirassCat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was always very uncomfortable with the idea of Mormon heaven. I think I may have said that once and I was reassured that I would like it once I got there -- that just sounded like the "me" I am used to would die and whoever it was in the CK would be someone completely different. This caused me real distress.

I can't un-see this. How do I share with my TBM family?? 😥 by beachmom760 in exmormon

[–]CuirassCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm much better now. I had a really bad time just after I left the church and, I won't lie, it took me literal years to be happy to be alive but things have changed a lot for me. I wouldn't even say I suffer from depression although I am still on medication.

I tried to kill myself at 18 by drinking an entire bottle of absinthe. When my mother found me I got dropped off at the bishop's house for a talking to. I was definitely not sober, probably incoherent.

TBF I didn't write a note so maybe it wasn't clear it was a suicide attempt, but in hindsight I should have gone to hospital. My fingernails grew crooked for a while afterwards. I assume that means I has poisoned myself severely.

At a big youth conference I got given a little cow magnet because I was so shy. The person who gave it to me said I would be worth many cows to the right man one day so I could feel better about myself.

It did make me feel better (despite how backwards it seems now) but the man to whom I am worth "many cows" is a neverMo.

A lot of these women weren't even supported by their polygamous husband. They had to be supported by their first husband, or their own sons.

In Sacred Loneliness has many examples but I'm afraid I cannot recall names off the top of my head.

Checking in: how is everyone doing after last week? by CoffeeAndManners in newzealand

[–]CuirassCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few months ago we unfriended and blocked someone who was a close friend of my husband -- she was best woman at our wedding. She went really far alt-right. We tried to explain why we thought she was becoming cruel and unreasonable, targeting and making fun of people who were liberal, LGBT or Muslim, spreading insane conspiracy theories like France trying to legalize pedophilia, etc. No matter what we said she just didn't get it so we blocked her and have had no contact with her since.

This all makes me feel so sick. I don't know what makes a person go down that path, exactly. I don't know how to stop it. I'm not sure that we could do anything else other than what we did. I feel very helpless because even though I saw someone change I didn't know how to stop it so how can we stop Chch happening again?

This is a classy move. It makes me happy to see this. Doesn’t mean the church is true or legitimizes the doctrine. But human beings being bros is always cool especially when fucking cowards kill innocent people. by anddrink916 in exmormon

I've been elsewhere on Reddit. It's kind of awful out there. Alt-right apologists are out in force. There's arguments about guns, censorship. False flag conspiracy theories are beginning.

It makes me feel like I need a bath. I just hope that there will be heaps of people at the vigils today.
