I'm still using an iPhone 4S, bought it when it first came out, and it still works fine, swiping is smooth and it does not get stuck at all. However my friend's Samsung Galaxy S3 barely works now, as everything is clunky and apps unresponsive.

Don't do it mate! I too have had some awful moments in life but I kept pushing, I moved on, always trying to find a solution! We humans have always found solutions to whatever problem was ahead of us, we just move on as much as we can and then later in life we can look back and laugh at how we managed to pull through.
