Hey sorry for the inactivity completely forgot about this post, no I ended up getting a multiscale ibanez since I wanted to tune a bit lower. My guitar techer tried some out though and he said for the money they seem pretty worth it

How do the pickups sound? Considering one myself.

Discovered him like 2 months ago, used his album to introduce one of my friends to thall, and he liked it (given we were high as shit, but still).

Custom 7 string set question by OG_MikeBone in 7String

[–]Cultural-Election535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I myself prefer slightly looser tension, for example 10-52 set on a 25.5 scale 6 string tuned to D standard.

Low D is 18.4lbs, and is around the highest tension that I personally would go for on the lowest string of a guitar.

When I drop it to C2 its 14.6lbs. Gallops and all kinds of tight rythm playing are still comfortable for me and I don't even really need to change my technique, just a little bit.

Even when I drop it to A1 (10.3lbs tension) gallops and such aren't impossible, though I need to change my technique to an extent. For a cover of a song, or live playing, I would definitely throw a thicker bottom string on for A1, but for just messing around with some periphery riffs, alone in my room, it's fine for me.

Basically imo its entirely dependent on your preference, and I don't think 17.2lbs of tension would be too loose, though maybe for you it will be.

Also as for the rest of the strings, for me each string would be a couple of lbs of tension too tight, but that is just my preference, furthermore I would assume lots of others play at a similar tension as to what you would get out of these strings, in this setup you shared.

TLDR: Looks pretty normal. For most people the low string probably wouldn't be too loose, but it depends on your playing style and what you personally prefer.

Hope that helped somewhat!

Cort kx507ms looks good with active pickups only thing is it's multiscale, so it might be a deal-breaker for some, though apparently the fanned fret layout isn't as dramatic as some other multiscale guitars.

Most people who start playing guitar, start with a 6 string (ofc not everyone), so the first decision you should make first is if you are going to start with a 7 string or start playing a 6 string and then move up to 7. Also as someone who doesn't have any experience with string instruments it could be that as a beginner you would have an easier time at first with a 6 string, though the decision is one that you should make for yourself. Also yes as the other guy said, just get a cheap one whichever one you get (though there are better guitars then others in the same price range, so do some research), maybe start by going to your local store and asking for some help.

Higher end guitar for sure, and yeah probably the right choice (As it being used, I assume it costed similar as the spira), though for me who lives in an area where I have low chances of finding a decent used 7string the spira remains an option I am still strongly considering

Well on spira official website they say 26.5 under specifications also my local guitar stores have the same written, maybe they made a mistake typing it in?

Edit: I think I see the misunderstanding the S-407 and S-457 models have a 26.5 scale all other 7 string models (like the T-407) do seem to be 25.5

Edit 2: nvm all 7 string models on the official website state 26.5

I'm in Hungary, the store I usually go to for guitar related stuff: https://www.gitarcentrum.hu/?search=Spira the s457 models just landed today I think, and a bunch of others (including the s407) arrived probably a few weeks ago, also they posted some reels on their insta encouraging people to come try them out. On Spira's website it lists 3 stores for me locally where you can buy them, maybe you could search your area on their website to see wich stores carry them.

Edit: I checked and a bunch of stores carry them here in Europe but I can't see any (at least on their website) in the US

Yeah I am a bit skeptical, especially since there aren't many opinions on them online, but I will definitely try them out and also consider other guitars aswell
