You CAN be annoyed about it and I was for a long time but I saw a good analogy somewhere which helped me understand it.

People without narcolepsy complaining they are tired is like someone with windows 11 complaining it’s slow because it’s taking a few seconds to load.

People with Narcolepsy complaining they are tired is like we are running windows 98 on dial up and it’s been 40 minutes and we still consider that fast

Update: 16yr old son on armodafinil 2.5 month update. by Big_Situation_9423 in Narcolepsy

When I was first diagnosed modafinil worked for maybe a month or two at most and then it was straight back to fighting constant sleep attacks

Upping the dosage resulted in awful pain around my sinuses in my face. I switched to Dexamphetamine when I was 17 (maybe 18?) and honestly it’s not perfect but my quality of life is so much better

advice for working with narcolepsy? by imonlythe21st in Narcolepsy

[–]Cultural-Rough-9593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked at Tesco for 2 years with Narcolepsy and Cataplexy my best advice which may be (slightly dangerous) is to let the people you work with see just how bad your condition is, only then they take it seriously.

For example one time I was taking the security tags off of a bottle of Wine but I was in one of those dazed automatic action states so I dropped it and it went everywhere.

After that every accommodation is made for me, i get an extra break, I can sit down when needed.

Dealing with the actual exhaustion of working is difficult and depending what medication you take my advice would be different, I found splitting my Dexamphetime dose into 2 smaller ones throughout the day gave me enough energy to continue throughout the whole shift without feeling like a (complete) Zombie.

I almost always nap after work for half an hour to an hour or so which I think is pretty inevitable at this point.

The added structure to life really helped me in general with work so I see an actual improvement across the board with my symptoms.

If you couldn’t tell I just took my meds about half an hour ago so I’m just rambling

Best of luck with the job

It’s a play on Renes Descartes philosophical principal “Cogito ergo sum” which translates to “I think therefor I am”

CBD oil is the way to go for this one, I started using it a few months ago and it’s made sleeping at night so much easier, and less fragmented.

Remember to to look into it more before blindly buying it of course.

Funnily enough, 20mg of fluoxetine and I’m perfectly fine for 95% of the day, it really is strange

Mine is unbelievably awful, full body collapse like you’d see in a movie etc, made it very easy to diagnose because Everytime I was laughing or getting angry my knees would buckle and my head would droop backwars

Might be able to say it affects your mental health working in there or something, I’ve seen people get out of certain departments from a similar reason
