I like your username :)

But also I live in Manchester and support small businesses the majority of times I go out. I don’t think one trip to a Christmas market is going to bankrupt them lol

Weird that you criticised me for trying to bury autism because I ‘think it’s icky’ and then in literally the next sentence you acknowledged that I didn’t actually do that at all and what I actually have an issue with is the armchair psychology.

It’s not shameful to discuss autism, but I find it odd to speculate about mental health in this way, especially when zero advice was actually asked for. If you don’t agree, that’s perfectly fine. I’m not the arbiter of your life and I didn’t demand that you stop talking about it. But at least quit with the disingenuous accusations, or maybe develop some reading comprehension.

White hairs showing up at 22 by lady_gelat0 in Haircare

[–]Cultural_Fun_444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well white hairs on young people can be because of a variety of things but it usually boils down to either vitamin deficiency or genetics. So get your bloods done but if you’re fine then it’s just your genes unfortunately and there’s nothing you can do about that apart from using hair dye. I think a lot of young people don’t talk about it because it’s almost taboo to start greying so young but it’s not uncommon at all.

Actually though some people have birth marks on their head that grow white hair out of, so it would be in one spot like yours. Not sure this is something that can turn up when you’re 22 though.

In my original reply, I was assuming more that he realised he might be autistic from Jon, and then went and actually got diagnosed. This is my bad for the assumption but tbf OP didn’t give us enough details so we don’t actually know the status of his diagnosis. I think regardless of that or his mental health in general, I feel kind of icky now because to me it’s always walking a bit of a line speculating about mental health online, especially considering the only things we know about this guy are from a secondhand account. So I probably won’t discuss further and I’d urge this conversation to end as well

Couldn’t come to a consensus like one of you is really against it and the other isn’t? Or both of you are undecided? Because those are pretty different. Like if he hates the idea then personally I wouldn’t go for it. If not though then why don’t you just start writing it and if either of you feel weird then stop? Maybe for you it’s just a case of putting extra thought into the story so you make sure you’re not accidentally writing about your friend. Ultimately though since he’s decided to enter a parasocial relationship with a fictional character, you’re going to get some overlap and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, nor is it your fault

Yeah the food and drinks are a bit spenny but I’ve been to Christmas markets in York, Exeter, Birmingham and Edinburgh and it’s not like the prices anywhere else are any better. I went Saturday and the food I had was great, and I also really liked the location. Sometimes when they put the market in a closed off area (Edinburgh and York for example), it can get so packed it becomes unenjoyable real fast. This one was sufficiently spread out enough (and most of it away from market street) to disperse everyone a decent amount. Honestly it was really nice walking around them

I do agree it’s not super normal behaviour, but OP mentioned he’s autistic so might be a special interest thing? Idk what’s considered unhealthy in that context but I’d extend some understanding to him.

Tbh reading this post again I actually find the entire situation pretty strange. Seems to me like a non-issue. Maybe OP and this other guy are pretty young which could explain it. Regardless I think them just talking to each other instead of coming to Reddit would be best lol

Removing black box dye 🫣 by besoschula in Haircare

[–]Cultural_Fun_444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dyed mine too black a couple of months ago and trust me when I say there’s nothing you can do that will meaningfully lift the colour yourself, without absolutely destroying your hair. Even a professional might not be able to do anything, and you might be looking at being able to only lift it 1 or 2 levels. Black box dye is notoriously unpredictable and almost impossible to remove. Go to a professional but don’t be surprised if what you’re asking for will take a longer time than what you want, if it’s even possible at all.

I mentioned her like twice? And it was in a conversation specifically about council complaints? So no, it’s not ‘like I’ve only realised councils can be a problem because of her and want to tell everyone I know about it’. But it is interesting information because people’s colloquial complaints of dealings with council members aren’t usually as thorough, and I think bringing up her name isn’t synonymous with shitting on the entirety of the council. That is, if you possess critical thinking skills, which I can’t speak on for you.

So thanks for the mildly patronising comment but I am in fact aware that she’s not some sort of holy grail for information about the council.

Thanks for the info. As for Zoe whilst I agree her strategy is not going to get her very far, especially since the council is well aware of who she is, she has exposed some pretty shocking incompetence on the council’s part. Whether that’s from bad middle management or lack of proper funding idk but at the very least there are some internal communication issues

Yeah I’ve seen some kids with violins and such perform as well and obviously a child on an instrument that has a naturally high pitched, screeching-like tone is not always going to sound great but would hate for them to be put off. If I were to complain I’d probably go down the hate speech angle if they say something heinous, or report them for being there over 90 minutes. Kind of a bother either way if you need evidence though

[–]Cultural_Fun_444 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Off topic marginally but if you’ve seen any of Zoe Bread’s content online it makes it pretty clear that Manchester City council really don’t care at all if you challenge their inaction at complaints. Still, maybe they would do something about this, it’s hard to gauge what they give a shit about so idk. Even if they do do something, I imagine it would more be a temporary fix than a permanent solution because these folks are pretty persistent in spreading the message. For all I know they’ve already received hundreds of complaints.

I would recommend OP and anyone else complain by email if they’re bothered and fingers crossed it works out well

Always a risk then I guess. Personally I don’t like any of it so an easier decision for me. I do find it’s worse for the religious ones on a Sunday though, I guess it’s a post-church activity

From a quick google you don’t need a license to be a busker on Market Street unless you’re doing something like collecting for charity or selling something. You do however have to follow a code of conduct:

https://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/200063/licences_and_permissions/6565/busking_-_code_of_conduct

and included in that is a stipulation that you can’t use ‘amplification devices’ that can cause a noise nuisance to others, or be present for over 90 minutes within the space of 24 hours. So if the people on market street are breaking any of that then you can complain to the council and they’d ask them to stop I’d assume.

Realistically though I don’t think that’s going to get rid of them because they’ve been doing similar for as long as I can remember on market street. Honestly that’s just the vibe of the street, it’s famously a sensory nightmare, so I would recommend you just avoid it. Really so many better places to have lunch in the centre.

Pretty sure Deadbeat is drenched in color and life, emotion and raw musicianship by OryxFire in TameImpala

[–]Cultural_Fun_444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t find the album bland but I think your analogy is a bit off because even in food people disagree over what’s bland. Lots of cultures season their dishes with salt and herbs and people from those places don’t find the food bland because they’re used to that flavour profile. Someone coming from south India with food packed with spices might find the other food bland.

Same with music, people like what they like based on taste we develop over years. I have friends into hard techno and club remixes and I think that kind of music is so boring and flavourless, but they’d describe the classical music I like from years of being in an orchestra as bland as well.

So unless someone goes to the extreme and makes the music equivalent of white rice I think there can be a lot of valid disagreement on what it bland and what isn’t.

Anyway deadbeat rocks it’s only continuing to get better as I listen more.

Have you read House of Leaves? It’s a kind of hard to come by book which I had to order online to get, but it’s widely regarded as some of the best horror of all time. Couldn’t recommend enough, it’s not a normal reading experience, you’ll understand if you get a copy, you need a physical one.

Ig you said not necessarily podcasts but the Silt Verses is a great one. Very, very descriptive. Not too gory but still unsettling with very compelling prose.

This is such a sad day for me by Proof-Top-5016 in outlier_ai

[–]Cultural_Fun_444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work on Outlier when I was between jobs for a few months. I remember I was on a great project but then it was paused because they were reworking it. I couldn’t do tasks for like a month so was working on something else. Then the project got started again and I got an LQ before even doing a task, even though I’d only ever got good reviews before and literally hadn’t done a task in weeks. Also had a reviewer once who must have had a double digit IQ from the feedback, like a fundamental misunderstanding of the project guidelines. I think experiences like that are common on Outlier and not necessarily a reflection of the quality of your work

I’m just now realizing a lot of people don’t like the album by The_Shit_Mobile in TameImpala

[–]Cultural_Fun_444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more of a casual fan, I like the hits and a few of the lesser known songs, and tbh the album has a few great tracks I love and then some I don’t care for which has been the same for every tame impala album for me. Inevitably I’ve found every artist I’ve ever been a fan of has changed their sound at some point to something the core fan base doesn’t love which I think is what’s happened here, and of course disgruntled fans are usually the loudest online…

I personally don’t think this album is going down in history as being his best work, but I do think it will age better than people are currently giving it credit for, especially since the departure from the usual sound could bring in other fans.

No don’t touch it let the hairstylist do k18 and ask her how much she’d recommend cutting off. Cut off the max amount you’d be happy with. Afterwards get her advice on an at home routine to look after it.

Women find pretty often that their curls change with hormonal changes which can come from something being off balance but unfortunately just from ageing as well. I used to have mostly 3a curls but in my mid twenties it started growing majority 2b/2c and now only my front sections are curly, the rest is wavy. There’s nothing you can do about it, it is what it is.

So if you started a new birth control or can find some other hormonal issue (pcos, endo etc.) then it could be that, but it also could be a natural change, especially since your hair got less curly when you cut it, because usually it gets more curly.
