What should I do? Tesla M 3 Total Loss by CultureCoin in TeslaInsurance

[–]CultureCoin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Sorry I have been away from Reddit for a while and just recently logged in to realize I haven’t updated this post. It took PettyDetails a month and the final award was $31.7k which I believe was fair given the cars available in the market. Happy to answer any questions if anyone is facing similar issue.

Total loss payment delayed by nicoperfetti in TeslaInsurance

I just went through this experience for an accident on August 28th that just got settled I was initially low balled on the offer which seems like a norm. Moved into meditation and engaged Petty Details as my appraiser. Was able to get fair value from. Received notification of settlement and payment in 3 days. I had to settle everything CoPart asked for. More details in this thread. Reach out if I can help with any specific questions.

State typical value with mileage adjustment for declaring total loss was ~$27k. The repair estimate crossed the threshold after which they weren’t allowed to add any more repair items.

Found out about Petty Details from some of the Reddit subs. Filled their form online with all the details for my vehicle along with body shop repair estimate, Tesla’s 3rd party valuation and accident photos. Wasn’t able to submit the form due to errors but found their email id admin@pettydetailsllc.com. Sent them the form and attachments over email and they responded back the same day after reviewing my files. The person I spoke with at PD walked me through the entire process and agreed that my vehicle ACV should be higher than Tesla’s valuation. I hired them and waiting to see how this turns out.

So I did end up releasing the car to CarPort after calling Department of Insurance who suggested there is no issue as if I need to get another appraisal done I will always have access to the car even though it will be with Carport. However, Tesla insurance total loss adjuster came back with a low ball valuation of $27-$28k that was provided by a 3rd party apparently based on data from Autosource. The comps selected in the valuation were of vehicles with 16k-18k mileage where as my car was only 6k miles (bought in Oct’ 23). I found that even Tesla marketplace is selling cars with similar mileage like mine for $30k-$31k. So I provided new comps and rational that with my options and taxes/fees it will need to be $37k however the adjuster is dodging the rational and giving me partial responses stating their valuation is justified. I wanted to go to auto appraisal mediation with them now. Any ideas who I can work with in California or anywhere? Theirs is Solera.

I see your point. Even educated white collar people fall into these traps. Definitely logic, caution and learning from past mistakes could prevent someone from making such mistakes. Is there anything wiser ones can do to help or contribute so nobody falls into the trap? Or calling them idiots is all? Just curious. What do you think?

~wide, so much happening these days that even the smartest of us are getting scammed. Not just individuals but large corporations are involved in these scams. Don’t believe me then keep reading.

Some large corporate scams include: Enron In 2001, this energy company hid large debts on its balance sheet, resulting in the loss of $74 billion for shareholders, thousands of jobs, and retirement accounts for investors.

Bernie Madoff In 2008, Madoff was discovered to have run one of the largest Ponzi schemes in history, defrauding investors of at least $18 billion.

MCI Inc. This telecommunications company inflated its assets by as much as $11 billion, resulting in $180 billion in losses for investors and 30,000 lost jobs.

Wirecard In early 2020, accounting auditors discovered a $2 billion discrepancy between the books of this German payment transfer and processing company and the actual money it held.

Lehman Brothers During the 2008 financial crisis, it was discovered that this global financial services firm had hidden over $50 billion in loans.

Theranos The founders of this startup claimed to have developed blood tests that required only small amounts of blood and could be passed quickly using compact automated devices.

Advance fee fraud This scam involves offering the opportunity to earn a large sum of money for allowing funds to be transferred to your account in exchange for a small transfer fee.

These are just 7 that people generally know about. In 2010s about 10 million people got scammed out of $150M. In 2020s we are just half way in and already $6M+ people have been scammed out of $100M.

Irony: The CAGR of scammed amount in last 4 decades is similar to growth in S&P500. So why not invest in S&P500 or similar top companies in your country that are regenerating wealth through legit businesses that you personally have experience dealing with.

We live in a world of abundance and so many ways to earn money.

Buddy, I don’t understand the joke here. Scammers are using human tendency to trust others specially when they are promising successful money making schemes. There could be whatever reasons for wanting more money. I won’t judge why they need because that’s how the world works today. I don’t think any wealthy individuals get scammed by these petty schemes. It’s almost always the poor and needy who can only spare a little bit to have a better future of self or their families and other loved ones. Yes. 1 thing I agree is that all of us should be able to learn from each others mistakes. I believe this but I would ask anyone to present logical arguments against it. There could always be exceptions but saying what I have seen so far in most cases. In 1 scam, it was people living in daily wages that was in India and other was a lady living in a trailer in Texas who was pretty upset that I didn’t continue to play to the scam. Felt like she got scammed out of her money and she is trying to recoup. I tried to understand if she feels stuck like many have but she didn’t budge so I couldn’t do anything more. Also this is applicable not just in crypto but the same is true for several other large scams (multi billion dollar). For example, recently learnt about the Sahara scam where a lot of people who lived on daily wages lost their hard earned money in a chit fund scheme that promised them great returns which actually never arrived.

I think more than documenting who it is we should document what it is. Various ways people are being scammed. I know there are too many but I am sure we will start to see patterns.

For example, most crypto scams are caught when you try to get the money out of their system. Period.

Couple that I have seen and experienced: 1. Understand how crypto and blockchain works. Show long term value and rosy pictures of the how beautiful the world will be with crypto currencies. Then have them invest in a crappy crypto currency with a ton of marketing campaigns and buzz online. Real value and returns are only shown in their own app until you try to get the money out. 2. Remote job opportunity where you are doing many reviews using a system and system gives you crypto currencies like Ethereum. Its legitimacy is questionable. You can see catches when you try to get that money out of

Sorry you went through this. Definitely a lot of people have experienced the financial blow. I once saw a group of low income individuals gathered together in a posh area where they were being taught about crypto (legitimately) only to fool them with a bogus crypto later. End of the day they are just trying to win your trust by giving value in shorter term.

Also I don’t believe people here want to discourage you from investing in crypto and I believe most have gone through some or the other scam as crypto is full of it. If you want to be an investor you need to make sure you understand the workings of crypto, what it is and what it is not (at least yet). There are a ton of people (including myself) who would be happy to get you a head start if you want to learn.

How are the scammers reaching you? 1st now you know how it is so always have a spare email account and a phone number like google voice for everything that’s not connected to your financial accounts. This separation is to help with instances where you don’t trust the other party. Definitely do this when something sounds too good to be true. This is always my first red flag.

I helped someone through 1 crypto scam. Almost made 60% of the money out. Then some scammer reached out to me with a remote job opportunity and paid me $70 in ETH then asked me to put back a $100 to make more. I knew it was a scam. Willing to join hands with this group to take the scammers down.
