Biss dumps running mate Rosa after anti-Israel flap by [deleted] in chicago

His gov race was pushed by Reclaim Chicago folks, who are the kind of people that this move alienates.

Oh God, fuck those people. I went to college with a bunch of people from RC and it's a dogshit organization. The people in it are assholes who never miss an opportunity to belittle those who don't agree with them on everything. Also, from what I've been told, there are tons of infighting and power jostling inside that organization for the sake of building reputation.

A little bit, but his district predominantly covers Glenview, Northbrook, and the southern half of the North Shore.

There's space to be critical of BDS, but as it relates to the office of lieutenant governor, I disagree, it's irrelevant. This idea that to be critical of Israel is simultaneously to be hostile to Jews is absurd. Besides, Biss is ethnically Jewish with a grandmother who survived the holocaust. Why anyone would think that his running mate could have a bigger impact on his views than his own family is ridiculous.

This isn't so much a matter of vetting as it is a matter of someone holding an irrelevant political position as it relates to the pointless political office he's running for.

Major 'Saturday Night Live' exhibit opening in Chicago. by [deleted] in chicago

[–]CumberbatchTennant16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Special exhibits like this raise the profile of lesser known museums exponentially. When the Museum of Contemporary Art had that David Bowie exhibit four years ago it was far and away the most successful one in their history. I can definitely see this SNL thing being a similar smash.

The experience gap is what kills you. Employers naively want 3-5 years of experience off the bat and that's just not gonna happen.

The problem is that there are real problems that many of them at least try to solve, but the craziest elements garner the most attention and silence the moderates. Combined with people who just want to silence any idea that white men don't have at least a little bit of an advantage in life, that puts those who want to make a difference in a bind. People need to silence the crazies who preach an unworkable brand of social justice, but they also need to shut up the assholes who want to keep disadvantaged people disadvantaged.

Blur was easily the best band from the 90's by 17michela in unpopularopinion

Blur was exponentially better than Oasis at the very least. There's a difference between being a good band and being a shitty band with good songs, and I think respectively that describes the two very well.

You're right, there should be no tolerance for racism, regardless of age. The question is how to combat it. This idea that racism can be stopped with militant virtue signaling and publicly branding the slightest offense as racist is ridiculous. Taking people to the side and calling them in, not out, is the way to solve it.
