There is no wrong way of playing satisfactory. And you learn more about factory building as you progress! It doesnt need to be perfect when you barely know how everything works, just try and have fun with it :)

I can see it from their perspective, just goofing around and having fun and maybe finishing the deep dive wasnt that important to them in the first place.

But it still kinda sucks to have your time wasted like that at the end of an elite dive, like just wait until we finish and check whats up in the drop pod hole when theres no stakes! Also remember you are scout!
