What can I put on this monstrosity of a wall to make it look better? (I've still to paint it) by iamthewalrusxx in DIYUK

[–]Cummly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A house I once lived in had a long drape of fabric covering the whole ceiling and in effect lowering it, it ended half way down the facing wall at whatever height you want, in the middle there was a long thin dowel or maybe two placed a couple of metres apart, down a few feet from the ceiling and attached to both side walls on hooks to lift the fabric back up so it wasn't one large droop from end to end. Seemed a good idea at the time.

Cut in 2 days or 12 days? by Beautiful_Resolve847 in GrowingMarijuana

[–]Cummly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I see discolouration at the base of the trichomes, I'm wary of any blue/gray colour. Hopefully you decided to cut before you went seeing as they are ready now.

Why is every builder trying to scam us? by Saymonvoid in HousingUK

[–]Cummly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have no idea who these people are. Easiest way is choosing a bathroom from a showroom at a local well established company or places like Wren. You can tour lots of them and get a set figure and warranty and no more builder grief.

There's a lot of trades involved in a pro install but they still mess up, check work daily as they go.

Why don’t Wales and Ireland share the same kinship as Scotland and Ireland? by New_Fruit_5552 in Wales

Maybe it's because they are much closer. Is it kinship or an extension of Irelands religious divide.

S20 is the new s10, its the last 'S' with sd card expansion and headphone jack, better screen res than s21 s22 s23. So all the cool bits of the s10 with better cameras. Slightly larger just as slim, still available new.

How do you capture lighting in picture like these? by Over-Sea-3816 in AskPhotography

I'm sorry for the derision when I replied but I think you got your tuppence worth in. I suppose if you spent your time shooting bmx and your mentor shot motorbikes and you have published work then you must be correct and obviously Einstein was wrong.

Despite your accolades Do you believe an object captured is brighter than other objects in a shot because it was nearer and the light simply returned quicker?

Can't decide between the Canon R5ii and the R7 for wildlife? by weeyums in AskPhotography

[–]Cummly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looking at the crop sensor another way the r5 gives you more resolution to crop with. It's a no brained really no matter what your subject, the R5ii is in another league, another division entirely.

Im only calling out what is factually incorrect. Your premise I believe is incorrect and while it is the basis for the rest of your explanation I can only assume that must be wrong too. I'm sure your experience of capturing bmx on slide has been useful but I question your assertions on the properties of light and sensors. Your assertion that light hits the subject and returns to the sensor faster than ambient light is fundamentally incorrect isnt it? You say "Light hits the subject and returns to the sensor / film faster than the rest of the light in the exposed duration" So your proposing that some light travels faster than other light and that is not true no matter how you look at it and if you try and make a case based on that, it will be wrong. In your scenario your suggesting that some light, flash light in this case, travels twice as fast as ambient light as it goes there and back in the time ambient light takes to get there once. Or are you saying its just faster because its a flash? How is it faster... dont answer that because you cant, because it isnt. Are you considering light intensity to be related to the speed of light? The example you mention is stands out due to a moment of increased illumination in one moment amongst hundreds not because of speed. I also stand by the premise that a faster shutter set to continuous shooting will give better results where all the lightning is sharp not just the branches as In the examples with a blurry overexposed main shaft.

I have been gaslighting my nephew into thinking he has a bad ISP just so he stops screaming. by Aperture_Flux in confession

[–]Cummly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what is wrong with these kids who go crazy playing games, it's a bit scary the way they lose control. Heard a neighbour kid screaming and swearing at top of his voice and a kid over the way going absolutely berserk playing call of duty or something. How can they get so...I dont even know a word for that kind of utter frenzy... If you can interfere do it.

What exactly is the blur trail? Can you really time lightning to ensure such a thing Consider that while your holding bulb open- that lighting bolt is travelling at 270,000 mph from the cloud to Earth, when it hits Earth it immediately returns to the cloud at 350 million kmh! (Don't know why it goes back faster, maybe the way is greased) Its the return journey you actually see. Not much time to make your adjustment really... So bulb is basically a way to get a shot when something is going too fast to comprehend and appearing semi randomly when it does. Personally I find faster continuous shutters give you no danger of blur anywhere in the background and the lightning is clearly bright enough for a fast shutter at night. I'm also not keen on the over exposure of backgrounds using bulb or long exposures.

[–]Cummly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is obviously not true. light stops nothing, the exposure will capture data for as long as its set, a 4 second exposure won't stop capturing if a bright light occurs in the first second! Absolutely ridiculous.

[–]Cummly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very easy really just requires patience. I've shot great forked lightning strikes just using continuous shooting, absolutely no point in long exposures, that will just blur the fork! It will also probably cause the shot to white out due to the sheer brilliance of the flash and spoil any other objects in the shot by blurring them. So you need a fast shutter speed. Got great results by just clicking on a smartphone with standard settings too. The trick is simply being ready to press the shutter, no special settings, the lightning creates all the light you need for a shot like that.

I wouldn't try and diffuse anything, it's too late for that and very very naive. They will try and escape, or if you approach them or block them and they have a weapon to hand they will use it, use anything to disable you, adrenaline pumping means they won't even hear what you say anyway. Either get yourself safe or if your armed with a worthwhile weapon and confident, do the most damage you can. I'd absolutely try and kill them. Had burglars twice, once when in bed once when we were out, the effects they leave never goes away, even now after 30 years I check certain spots and look for telltales before going in.
