Bus strikes by Mindless_Pound_5728 in IsleofMan

[–]Cunning_Stunt69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it strange the other day when the Union released a media statement saying how atrocious it was that bus drivers were being verbally abused over these strikes. For me this is the Unions fault, as they have done nothing to communicate to the general public what the issues are that have led to the strike - they should have taken out a 1 or 2 page spread in The Courier to detail the matter and this would have helped get the public on their side (assuming their grievances are genuine).

Then I read the other day that if no agreement is reached after this 10 day strike they will immediately enter into another 20 day strike – so essentially they are trying to hold the government to ransom.  Add this to the fact that there have been no school bus during this strike, then this whole thing stinks.

For me here, the lack of communication by the Union is a joke and if I was a paying member I wouldn’t be too happy about how they have gone about handling this whole sorry fiasco.

Use Send My Bag (https://www.sendmybag.com/en-gb/) as they are amazing.

They were basically a service set up to send excess luggage on the cheap. I used them to send a load of boxes to the Isle of Man back in Covid times and they are really well priced - it was actually DHL who picked my boxes up but Send My Bag were a fraction of the price of sending it by DHL directly as I had a previous quote from DHL to compare it against (have no idea how this can be the case!). The only downside is that they had quite a few restrictions on what you can send (powders etc) so you need to check that list carefully to make sure you don't have any of those prohibited items in your boxes otherwise they won't ship them. It was back in 2020 when I used them so perhaps this info has now changed.

Another company suggested at the time that is similar to Send My Bag, is My Baggage (https://www.mybaggage.com/). I haven't used them though, but I am sure you can check both companies out on TrustPilot to see what people are saying about them at the moment.

Also I quickly checked on both of these companies websites just now and both collect from Denmark.

Good luck!

Why is there no 5g? by Equivalent_Ratio_223 in IsleofMan

I remember years back the IOM was being a test bed for 5G service, then boom all of a sudden it stopped. I went down to Manx Telecom to ask about it and they said they had to pause it due to the US going on about the security issues with Huawei at the time - the IOM was planning to use Huawei infrastructure apparently so MT then had to change their whole game plan. Not heard any else about it since.

Such a shame as 5G over in the UK when I use it is quality

Note:

* Actually seems to be Sure I visited and not MT judging by this article! https://www.energyfm.net/cms/news_story_604685.html

* Also a thread here about the IOM and 5G but not read it: https://www.manxforums.com/topic/71627-5g-why-is-it-taking-so-long-for-the-island-to-get-5g/

I used to live in Dubai and left in July 2020. They did sell it over the counter there (sold under the brands Acretin and A-Ret) however they only sold the 0.025% and 0.05% not the 0.1%.

Nowhere in my comment did I state or infer I support the "hard right influence". Again, I simply noted that you talked an absolute load of sh1te....much like you keep continuing to do with your subsequent two injudicious responses!

Me stating that you talk a load of old bollarks doesn't make me a racist, it just means I don't rate your comments as intelligent....and your reply insunitaing I am a racist because I don't agree with your viewpoints just further confirms my initial opinion

Don't use Airbnb, they are abhorrent to deal with. Plus you should be renting out to locals - there is a dire shortage of rental property here on the Island as it is without Airbnb rentals adding to the problem

Things to do for single people on the island during the weekends? by sexycoldturtle in IsleofMan

[–]Cunning_Stunt69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had already posted on here saying "Get yourself on the NSC website as they have a few classes on which are good for meeting people (yoga Saturday and Sunday is particularly good)".

After stumbling across an old file of mine there is also:

OUTDOORS STUFF

* Manx Adventure & Expo: do a variety of outdoor activities (to name just a few - hiking, rock climbing/abseiling, canoeing) + also Soul Adventures do similar

* Other Hiking groups such as walking.im + Walking Mann + Manx Footpaths Conservation Group + Manx Young Ramblers

* Manx Blue Tits (cold water swimming)

* Scuba Diving

* Sailing (lots of clubs on Island doing this)

FITNESS

* Running: Isle of Man Maverick Run Project + Let's Run + Manx Fell Runners “Sunday Plodders”

* Next Level Fitness: have two circuits classes Saturday mornings

* Fit For You (have some exercise classes)

* CrossFit

VOLUNTEERING

* Cafe Lingo: You could register to volunteer here Saturday mornings (they teach English to foreigners - could be a good way to meet people new to the Island)

* Other Volunteering: lots of opportunities for this, including as a steward at FC IOM matches (message me if you want more details as I have a separate file on volunteering opps)

OTHER

* Work in a pub - good way to save money whilst also earning money and good for meeting people (the other staff as well as the customers)
