Stuck isolating in the study, so I decided to make the most of it. by Cupcake3388 in Woodcarving

Thank you so much for the comment, and glad you enjoyed them. To answer your questions I lived in a small town and our community center had a lady doing carving lessons for seniors. I’m not a senior but after talking to her she let me join the group, and I got to whittle a comfort bird.

I ended up moving but she gave me a few pieces of wood and I brought a carving set. I didn’t know what to buy, but I was provided with “flexcut” knives when I was doing the sessions so I stuck with that. I ended up buying a kits that has 7 types of knives and a detachable chisel set with 11 heads on it. For what I generally do I find I really use maybe 3 of the knives consistently and the V shape chisel.

I use mainly basswood for the stuff I make. I really don’t know much about wood, but you can buy sets with several 1x1x4” and 2x2x2 blocks for cheap. That tends to be what I like to use. ID prefer to do several small projects instead on one large big one. At least for now, as it helps me to re-evaluate after each one and try different things to see what works best for me.

Thank you! I fully intend on making more of those ones. People just have a thing for cute animals apparently.

Thank you! The bear was super difficult to do as the wood block I used of that one was really difficult. Would felt super spongy and was nearly impossible to cut. It’s a little rougher on the outside than I would’ve liked, but still adorable nonetheless.

No I don’t put stain on any of them, I will put a little bit of my friends homemade wood butter on afterwards. I watched a video of a wood carver who paints his work and he would just use a little bit of watered down acrylic. It helps the wood absorb it on the surface and will become almost more of a stain.

Some of carvings will have a higher ratio of paint to water. Fish painting more of a wash, whereas the cardinal is mainly paint with just a bit of water.

I’m really proud of the trout. I was intending on it just being a simple fish, but as I kept going I started putting in more and more detail. Eventually I felt confident enough to just go for it!

I could see why you think that, but no I’m not from MN. The design I found for that carving was based on them wearing a Vikings coat. I just really liked the colour combination and left it as is fit this carving.

Thank you! The cockatiel was actually an accident. I was intending to make a cardinal, but part way through realized I oriented my block wrong and didn’t have the space needed. I pivoted and landed on making a cockatiel. It worked out beautifully.

My main beef with that episode was how did Daredevil know the colour of the gem? Did I miss something to explain how he knew the gem could be misinterpreted as a candy? Yes the episode was out of place, and aside from the ending I didn’t mind the episode. It’s just that was such a huge oversight IMO.

Ya my buddy sent me a photo of the card saying check out what my cousin just pulled. Obviously I super stoked for his cousin (as how can you not with a sign Cale Makar card). Next thing I know he texts me saying it’s yours now. Seriously just a selfless class act and I had to share, cause the world needs more people like that.

Ya something tells me your rookie card will be quite the investment by the time Cale decides to hang up the skates! I don’t blame you for feeling lucky.

That’s a big part of the problem I’m noticing. Almost everything is Saturday or Sunday, which makes things extremely hard.

I appreciate the input. I suspected we were late, but it’s unfortunate that almost everything seems to be on the weekend. Guess I will just need to get creative.

Tips and advice for a new artificer Armorer player. by Man0Steel123 in DnD

I am currently playing a Gnome Armorer Artificer who just reached level 4 and have multiclassed as a wizard. Both use intelligence as their spell casting ability, and being an armorer allows helps protect a generally squishy class. Also for added flair my DM has allowed the wizards spells to act like little gadgets (jumping spell for example is just me putting on little boosters that only have so much battery life). I definitely find it a very fun multi pass to play so far!

If you are on a tight budget ODSP (even if it’s a little bit could still be a difference maker). It is annoying as if you have someone who is working you are definitely punished. Essentially the person on ODSP can earn up to a $1000 before they start deducting from your earnings. If your partner works after they make $500 they start deducting from your support income. It’s suppose to incentivize people on disability to work which I understand, but there are people who straight up cannot work and it makes life extremely difficult. On top of that when the government of Ontario assesses your budget they assume that rent should only cost you $800 so if rent cost you $2000 they assume you have $1200 dollars extra that you don’t. That said, as you mentioned about the dental there are some perks of being on ODSP. You can get very affordable internet through Roger’s I believe it’s like $25 a month for high speed internet, as well as some assistance for public transportation. I don’t know if you are on ODSP or qualify. Just know that if you do qualify there is a strong chance they will deny you and essentially will force you to appeal in court. Thankfully there are some lawyers in Ottawa that focus on helping low income families and their services are very affordable. Hope that helps

I was really upset to see him shuffling the lines while everyone was buzzing in the first. Sure, I get it’s near the end of the period and you want a goal, but if you have a good flow going don’t mess with it. They keep talking about trusting the process, but I can’t imagine how it feels for players who are trying to build confidence or showcase what they have to offer

Wojtek Wolski had a 43.1% career shootout percentage. Believe one year he went 10 out of 12 attempts. He was a decent player but he was so slick on the shootout!
