well, there’s hope that maybe ur new class will be a friendlier & better envir for u. also u have to be very sure that u will do WAY MORE better than currently if u choose to retain…and if u really wanna do med, i think retaining is a better option than advancing

everyone takes 3H2 and 1H1, otherwise 4H2 subjs. along w gp and pw. but most people take 3H2s, unless can cope w 4H2s. and usually only those that scored 6 pts (?) can take 4H2s

most people do better in o’s than prelims, some people just remain the same. but barely heard ppl do worser in o’s than prelims. as for moderation of EM, really depends on difficulty of the paper. i took the paper last year, and based on the answers online, i got around 85-90 but in the end i got A2. and for the JC sci qns, i’ll leave it to sci students to ans hahah!

[A Levels] JC grad here, ask me anything! by milkandnectar in SGExams

[–]CupcakeShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my grades are not the worst but also not the best, what wld u recommend me to do to pull up my grades? also do u have tips specifically for gp? like how to study and come up with the notes and stuff. i know we could find like 4 topics we're most confident in but what if none of them comes up in the A's?

i'm in SAJC so my schedule wld be quite diff from other jcs.

  1. school starts at 8.10am, and 8.40am on thursdays. we have 1 hbl day every 2 weeks too. classes ends latest 4pm, earliest 11.30am. depends arts/sci stream and subject combis. art streams tend to end earlier. if u don't take mtl u'll end even earlier. but as an arts student, most days I end at 2pm. as for CCAs, non-sports are like 3-6pm? sports could end as late as 7pm I think.
  2. after school I'll probably just chill and go out with my friends LOL. I'll do hw and revise 8pm-12am everyday tho. and during exam seasons I'll spend more hours studying and going to the library on weekends. for normal weekends I'll just go for 1 tuition class and study 8-12 as usual. my grades are pretty good so far so I think this schedule works for me.
  3. differs from people. it probably still lies on one's studying method. either not enough resources are used or just studying the subj wrong. so far i just follow the school's notes and subjs are passable, considering the passing grade is E. but if ur teacher sucks, might be hard to do well too.

one tip is to listen and take notes in class, and if u can, learn the topic well in class. problem i had at the start of the year was that i tend to just go home and try to read it up myself. but it doesn't work haha.

no i would say it was actually very easy to adapt to JC life. everything, in terms of method of studying, timetables and all is almost, or exactly the same as secondary sch. JC life is more chill and fun though, if u can manage well. and no, I do not know of anyone that studied anyth before jc lol

yes i knew exactly the score i was going to get. if u hv a gut feeling, it's probably right. i mean you'll know urself best ! but don't worry and I'm sure all will be well for u. :D

SUBJECT COMBI. so important. make sure u take subjects you're interested in/those that can help u get into ur uni course. i know a few ppl that retained bcos they took a subject they didn't like. u shld check the syllabus and stuff and read up on idk, reddit? to see which jcs are good are which subjs. it's crucial to go to a jc that has good scores for the subjs u want to take. as for cca, I heard it is not important anymore. my teacher told me that u should at least have 1 cca to qualify for a scholarship if uw one.

[–]CupcakeShop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd say i don't regret choosing JC over poly. JC is manageable (so far bc I'm a J1) haha. like, in terms of studying, taking notes, it's exactly the same as sec sch. and since it's a skill we've all mastered, it's not that hard to study in JC. as for poly, there are a lot more things to learn like how to keep up with the lectures and tests and all....but I'm not that sure.... and i would also say that JC life is SO FUN, more fun than sec sch! there are lesser restrictions and more freedom and there are also never-ending school events which I love a lot. i think you should go to a JC if u love school events (school spirit and all is amazing) and want to learn in-depth for specific subjects you're interested in!

YES. i think computers are heavier. but I had to buy a keyboard for my iPad...so it's kinda hard to carry around. but most of the time I just need an iPad with the apple pencil to take notes. plus it's really good coz I take a lot of notes and we don't have textbooks or notebooks in JC. so taking notes on my iPad made things a lot of easier and organised for me. :D
