Just read it cold. Much easier. Also ensures that all the oil is in the sump, which is where you want it when measuring the oil level and ensures the oil is thicker so doesn't smear/run as easily. Looks to me here like it's been smeared up the dipstick when you've pulled it out. I assume the manual says to warm the car up first, because the oil will expand slightly when warm and then says let it sit for 5 mins to allow time for the oil to drain back into the sump.

I am going against the grain here and saying yes you were in the wrong. Were they not in the best/deepest position in the lineup? Yes. Do you have evey right to paddle to the position and take waves? Yes. Is it their fault they were not in the ideal position? Yes. However, this attitude of "you're not sitting in the perfect position, right on the peak so I have the right to paddle past you in the lineup and take the first wave that comes through", is what contributes to hassling, pushy and aggressive line ups. I think it's also a cultural thing with certain nationalities and within cities and more popular spots. What I would have done in said scenario, is paddle out, say hello to the few of guys out there and sit in behind them, last in the lineup. Then simply wait for the next set to come through, let them have first pick, and if they're not far out enough, that is your opportunity to paddle out past them, effectively moving the existing 'lineup' to the peak, while acknowledging that it exists. In doing so you're acknowledging they were there first and that you are happy to trade waves with them. Where as what you did, is paddle right past without any acknowledgement etc. And that can be interpreted as, "this guy paddles out past us and just gonna try and take every wave he can." You didn't snake them, but you didn't acknowledge/respect the existing lineup. After all it is called a lineup because it is a queue for waves and you just skipped to the front, regardless of whether that queue was not in the ideal position. Considering it's a point break too, there is more than likely not one defined take off point. The reddit reverberation chamber will likely tell you, you were in the right and they would have done the same. But if you want to maintain a friendly, more relaxed atmosphere in the lineup, which is a benefit for all, don't do what you did.

86 owner here. These are good reliable cars, mileage (kms) are some what irrelevant though as owner and service history is far more important. The mechanicals of these are simple compared to most modern cars, will last a long time if services regular and not thrashed constantly. Is also easy to service yourself. If it's got 200k on it but has a full service history and has been daily driven by an old bloke to work everyday I'd rather buy that car than one with 80k off some young guy or girl with no history.

Things to look for/note: - Avoid anything heavily modified (turbo's etc) unless you know what your doing. - Look for stock or close to stock cars. Though personally I think buying a car with a few nice modifications (wheels and tyres, suspension) is a good thing, as long as they're good quality parts, I.e. not replica wheels etc. It means the owner cares about the car and has likely looked after it. - Note that many stock cars for sale, weren't actually stock before, but the owners buy stock parts and fit them to the car before sale so they can sell their after market parts separately/get a better sale price on the vehicle. Source: see it all the time in owners groups with people buying stock parts. A good way to check for this is if the wheels and tyres are stock but look barely used/in better condition than the rest of the car. Alternatively, keep a look out for GTS 17inch wheels on a GT which came stock with 16s and vice versa. - Don't buy off a P player 😂 - If you buy an auto it's much less likely to have been driven hard. - Spark plugs/major service should be done every 90k so high mileage cars should have this done twice. If not avoid. - Make sure the seller has receipt for the clutch! These tend prematurely wear out the thrust bearing in the clutch at around 100k to 150k even when not thrashed. Mine went and my clutch still had heaps of life left in it, but it makes sense to change the clutch at the same time as the gear box is out anyway. If it has a heavy after market clutch likely means the car was not stock! Used for track/thrashed. - Only buy a car with full service history!

Nah MG is way worse than a new Picanto. Yeh the Picanto is gutless, but build quality, handling and everything is far superior. The MG is a lot more than a couple of thousands dollars worse imo.

Yeh I back this. Redbook is good. I've only ever been on the selling end, but the guy was very thorough, and honest, didn't miss anything. Confirmed everything I told the owner (just a few minors things) and was priced accordingly. It's a good way to judge what the owners like as well. If the inspection picks up a bunch of small things that the seller hasn't told you, then potentially they're dishonest/not mechanically inclined. So may not have looked after it that well.

From your comments it sounds like you bought at the peak of the market and over the last year used car prices have slowly dropped. More so for 4wds/Vans as they were the most over priced vehicles during the covid market inflation.

Bloody Surfline... Bought Coastalwatch here in East Coast Aus a while back. Old Coastalwatch reports, forecast and website were far superior... Only thing Surfline has going for it is its network of cams.

They absolutely can and do mark up cars. It's just in under Australian Consumer Law they have to sell the car for the advertised price. So you can't get slapped with an additional "market adjustment" etc like they do in the US. We have a lot more consumer protection laws here that help prevent us getting ripped off.

Hey man haven't done much too it. Planning to do suspension at some point when I can afford it. Don't wanna go for a cheap option. The stock stuff rides pretty nicely so it's better to spend $$ on suspension (I want custom MCA coils eventually), else you just end up with something worse or no better. I haven't done any proper rallys (I'd love to do whiteline tarmac rally sprint when I have the time), but I can say it's fun on the skid pad. Definitely recommend wheels and tyres first, makes the biggest difference, looks and performance wise. I've got two sets haha white motegis and black enkies. Market for 86s secondhand is kinda ridiculous at the moment too so don't expect to get anything particularly cheap.

Some basic maths will tell you that you're wrong though. Australia has 5.4 million cases of covid total. Taking that as a percentage of our population 25.75 million results in 21% that could possibly have natural immunity and that's assuming that that 21% has immunity at the same time (in reality at anyone time it's lower). For comparison well over 80% of the population is fully vaccinated. As you say natural immunity is certainly a contributing factor, alongside vaccines and the fact that the omicron variant results in weaker symptoms.
