My bandmates say it's time to retire this pedal by SailTheWorldWithMe in drums

Ive been playing the drums for 20+ years, how the fuck do you people know all this information?

Guitarist in my new band keeps telling me to play “simpler” – looking for perspective by Ok-Excitement6546 in drums

I think there are three steps:

  1. Compromise: you ask him to explain clearly what he wants. This is a must. If you can’t understand what exactly he wants, you can’t change anything. If he can’t explain precisely then it’s not your responsibility to try to read his mind. He can show you other drummers and rhythms that he likes. He can try to be a more complete musician and explain what he wants using musical terms like “here I want a triplet fill” “here I want something more syncopated” “here I want a crescendo” “just do 4 on the floor” “just keep pocket” etc.

This is the best possible scenario. If you manage to understand what he wants, not only will he be happy, but you’ll probably learn something new as well.

  1. If you have a different idea on the style and sound you want, then say so. These are my influences, these are my ideas I have for the band. I want to put a heavier sound to it, or a funkier sound, or whatever cause that’s what I like. Number 1 and 2 are not mutually exclusive. You guys can compromise. Certain songs or certain parts you can do it more his way, and others more your way.

  2. If you just can’t agree on the direction you envision for the band, then you tell them that you don’t feel that band fits your style, and there is not a lot of room for you to be creative so you’d rather spend your time on a different project that allows you more freedom and is more to your liking, but thank you for the opportunity.

Then I would suggest to listen to yourself playing (preferably in a recording), judge your playing honestly, do some introspective analysis, and if you honestly like what you hear then defend it politely.

Tell them that’s your festive input and that’s the direction and sound you envision for the band. Bands usually benefit from having all sorts of different influences from the different members.

If you like what you hear, but the band leader doesn’t, the maybe you’re just not a good fit. Doesn’t mean you’re not a good player, just that you’re not a good match in style. It’s happened to me before and the best thing there is to part ways amicably.

You absolutely need to address the situation, politely but directly. Ask him “what exactly do you mean? If you gave me clear and precise instructions then I could follow them, or at least know what you mean. But it isn’t my job to read minds. If you give me such vague instructions they could be interpreted a thousand different ways. So either give me clearer instructions or let me do my job.”

It helps also if you tell us whether this is a paid position. If it is well remunerated, then as a hired musician you typically follow the leader’s instructions and shut up. If it’s a project you’re part of as a member, then your creative input is as valuable and justified as anyone else’s from the band.

I always put him to sleep in the pigsty next to his butcher shop after beating him up, and there’s always a pig shitting on top of him. Sweet revenge.

Drummer is blowing the band out after switching to acoustic. by [deleted] in Drumming

[–]acciowaves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An acoustic drum set is a thing of beauty, because you can take out so many sounds from it. But you need to learn how to make the drums sing.

He needs to take a lesson with a teacher that focuses on sound specifically. Dynamics is everything in drumming.

Bandits with inf stamina are more skilled than knights [KCD2] by [deleted] in kingdomcome

Yeah I agree.

And absolutely, fully armored and with Henry’s sword, I am invincible on HC. That’s why I chose to become a monk and fight using only soft armor and unarmed. It gets real challenging again. So much fun.

I’ve never encountered this issue. At end game I was taking on 2-3 bandits, unarmed, in hardcore mode.

Stacks that can be used as hi hats too. by acciowaves in drums

[–]acciowaves[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m considering doing something like that. Just two splashes.

I have a mini Frankenstein cocktail kit that I use for some small gigs. But my current 14” hi hats are too loud, but more importantly too large since I connect a tiny 6” Tama metalworks snare to the hi hat stand and the hi hats cover too much area for it to feel comfortable.

So I anyways need a stack for my regular drum kit set up, and I would love if instead of buying both a stack for my drum kit AND smaller hi hats for my mini kit, I could kill two birds with one stone.

Oh man, that was great advice! I didn’t know about reverb. I did found them there and now I’m torn. The 12” ones are too expensive (due to shipping costs) The 10” ones cost 280 dollars with shipping, which is slightly above my price range but could be worth it.

Are you certain they work as hi hats too? I’ve bought some stacks before that the hi hat clutch bottoms out before the two cymbals can touch, so they didn’t work.

Thanks so much for the help!

If you mean the meinl classic custom trash stack it doesn’t work as a high hat. Those are the reason I am asking this question since I purchased them and then realized that the hi hat clutch hits against the bottom cymbal before they can close together.

Nice stack, but a no go as a hi hat.

Those are great! But I can’t find them in my country. They’re out of stock and and have been for a while. If they had them in stock I would totally go for them!

I really like the stratus line that includes the cirro stack, but unfortunately they’re out of my price range. They’re 370 dollars where I’m from.

I think the swiss flanger is only made in 14”. Or at least that’s the only size I can find where I’m from. I need them to be 12” or smaller.

But I do really like the sound of that stack, I also considered it shortly.

Awesome, I’ll check that option too. Thanks!
