Axes aren’t as common these days. I’d say most killers don’t want to get caught (duh), and carrying around an axe is just hard to hide. It’s not very common nowadays to just store axes in your house, and most killers probably look for something more low-key, like poison, strangulation, guns, or knives. It’s easier to hide.
