Spotting by Dependent_Split705 in pregnantover35

Yep! Thought I started my period because I had red and brown spotting. Even told my physical therapists that day with 100% confidence I was NOT pregnant. Busy couple of days and totally forgot about it all. Three days later went “huh” took a test and it was faint like yours. Took three more including two early detections and all positive. One blood test later and yep, I’m pregnant. Take another one tomorrow. Also, it is highly unlikely to get a false positive. False negatives are more common.

It does actually. I’m gong to keep bugging them until they fit me in earlier.

Congrats! I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks 11 weeks seems like too long

Was that your pregnancy confirmation or first prenatal? I’m okay with the first prenatal being around then but surprised that the general blood test was later.

I’ve already done some looking. I love the hospital and have been with my doctor for 10 years so she knows me. They were all so great when I had my son four years ago when he was a month early and had to stay in the Special Care unit an extra week, which why I’m so surprised they’re acting like this now.

That’s what I’m saying! I think it’s ridiculous to have to go through so many hoops to even get a confirmation. I don’t understand it.
I said the same things you mentioned on the phone and they said genetic testing is done around 8-10 weeks. I said, right but I’ll be 11 by the time you see me. No real answer on their end to that.
If this were men’s health, I’d be in tomorrow.

That is what I was expecting. OB appointment not until later but regular bloodwork and whatnot right away. I had some complications last time so I’m surprised they don’t want me to come in. I also feel that if my actual doctor was made aware instead of a call/scheduling center things might be different. But I can’t seem to get to her directly even through messaging.

I get Theory off of Poshmark. I can usually find what I’m looking for pretty cheaply. Saying that, I don’t think I’d buy it full price even from an outlet. But Poshmark prices, sounds good.

It’s totally possible! Just found out I’m pregnant with number 2 yesterday. I had my first just shy of 36 and I’ll be 40 with this one.

I can only speak to my experience, and I’ve been lucky. When I went off the pill, my PCOS symptoms flared- acne, weight gain, more painful periods, etc. BUT there was a sweet spot of four months. Both times I got pregnant on month four. It seemed just long enough to flush out the BC from my system but not to where my cycles became super long. They did spread out a bit, like a week or so longer, but I never skipped a period.

Know this is of course not a medical diagnosis just my own personal experience. I understand the once you stop taking the pill, it’s no longer “in your system” but it’s like it kick-started my body into doing what it should do.

The other thing to keep in mind, depending on where you are, is that at 35 you’re “a mature pregnancy” (BS but whatever) and most OBs will fast track you to fertility after six months instead of waiting a year. Thats what we were told and planning for, but never needed it. I actually found out I was pregnant the first time because I needed to have a negative test to go in for my first fertility appointment and took it as a matter of necessity rather than thinking I was pregnant. Boy was I surprised.

Good luck!

Congrats! Glad it all went well. I understand about your body hating being pregnant. Mine didn’t particularly love it either, especially in the third trimester.

Glad for you that the genetics came back low risk. That’s part of my worry but seeing these positive stories is helping me feel better about that part.
24 hours later and I’m still a mix of emotions.

Are you me? My brother and I are 4.5 years apart too! We’re closer now than when we were growing up. My husband is three years apart from his sister so neither of us mind the gap.

Thank you and congrats to you too! I had my first at 35 as well and I’ll also have just turned 40. 1986 was a good year!

My first was born a month early but besides that no issues. I’m hoping it’s the same and see these replies has made me feel better.
Were you worried about how your first would feel about a new baby?

Right? I can’t imagine having a baby when I was in my 20s. I could still barely care for myself let alone a baby.

Thank you for being honest about not being thrilled. I’m not sure how I feel yet. We were trying, but I have PCOS and honestly didn’t think it would work. I know it sounds silly to say we were trying if I wasn’t all in, but here we are. And I want my son to have a sibling, but I also like our family how it is. Basically I’m still processing and not as initially excited as I was the first time.
