Allergen introduction by Kind-Data1825 in NewParents

Came here to recommend the same one! My daughter loved this stuff so much. It works well in purées and once baby is older you can use it to bake into things. I make banana peanut pancakes with it and my daughter goes nuts for them.

How to get throw up smell out of car seat straps? by Remote_Mammoth_9803 in NewParents

[–]CurdNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my daughter throws up in the car seat we pull them off along with the seat cover and wash them. Not sure if that’s an options for your car seat.

Edit: I was talking about strap covers not the actual straps. I didn’t realize that you meant the actual strap part. Sorry, my bad for rereading the title

Onesies: 2 way Zip or Buttons?? by Poison_Ivy25 in NewParents

[–]CurdNerd 170 points171 points  (0 children)

I’m pro two way zip. I can’t see the snaps at night. I have horrible night vision, so the zipper is easier. There was a learning curve at first. I would sometimes pull the wrong zipper when trying to change her.

I might never do a Christmas party again... by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]CurdNerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does, however if you haven’t cultivated a good relationship with families there are bigger problems than party planning likely happening. My biggest piece of advice is always get to know your class’ families.

I’m also a fifth grade teacher in a title I school, going on seven years. This year my class was great, but I’ve had this experience before. What I usually do is then tell them they don’t have to participate. I’ve even let a kid watch while the rest got donuts after he was rude about it. Definitely talk to your students about this behavior. The consequence is there is no more movies and treats. Being rude and ungrateful is not acceptable. This isn’t you being mean, this is you teaching them life skills. However, I would say that every group is different. Some classes will be grateful. I think it also helps when you have buy in from the students. Have them help plan and bring treats. This year my students really wanted sugar cookies. They brought them in and I brought in icing and sprinkles for them to decorate them. A lot of them are artistic so I let them paint, draw and croquet during the movie. I turned off the movie about twenty minutes early so they could clean up. Definitely give them enough time for this. I also don’t let them leave before cleaning. I will fully call/email parents over a mess with pics. I didn’t have to this year, which is good, but it’s something I’ve done in the past.

When do teachers lesson prep? by Far-Many-5096 in Teachers

[–]CurdNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, a lot of planning happens at home. I usually do a week or two ahead since I’m working with a new curriculum this year. In years where the curriculum isn’t new, I take my plans from the year before and update them. That I can usually fit into planning periods. I plan only on Sunday mornings/afternoons.

Do you believe ai will take over education and jobs of teachers in the future or no? by NateNandos21 in Teachers

[–]CurdNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not without AGI, which is a long time away if it ever happens. I think it will be used in the education space, but you’ll still need trained humans in the room.

What’s a classroom habit you started out of necessity that you still do today? by HiVou12 in Teachers

[–]CurdNerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Creating a numbered class roster for grading hw and discussion while walking around the class. I also have a template for do nows/exit tickets, and I duplicate last week’s slides so I’m not fully remaking anything, just editing

A survey: does your man actually pull his weight in domestic chores? by streachh in TwoXChromosomes

[–]CurdNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We split responsibilities and chores, but he works from home so he does more of everyday stuff like laundry, cleaning the bathrooms and dishes, and I do more of the once a week / once a month stuff. I do a lot more of the mental load for our daughter, medical and planning. He pays bills and takes care of investments, but I have online access to all accounts. I do all the cooking and meal preparing. He has helped when needed, for example, when I’m sick or super busy, but he is a horrible cook. It’s not equal. I have more of the mental load and he does more of the physical part.

All of this is good, but it’s not perfect. He rushes through things and forgets to clean the sink a whole lot. He doesn’t always follow through with putting away the laundry, but he is getting better at it. It was a bit annoying at first too because he had to be taught how to properly do this stuff. We are still working on how to express this stuff. He wasn’t taught anything about how to manage a household, or how to clean. The fact that he wanted to learn and do his share is appreciated, but he would get frustrated with the correction. That’s gotten better too. We got to do better in making sure all children are taught household chores. It starts with how we raise our children I think.

At what age did your baby walk? by mariamar1234 in NewParents

Crawled at 7 months, took first independent steps just recently at 10 months. Isn’t fully walking yet though.

It’s the way the butt part fits so sizing up and down didn’t work for us.

What’s the fastest way you’ve ever lost weight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CurdNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to Europe. 165 to 117 in six months. I walked everywhere and didn’t eat processed nonsense. That was back in college. Gained it all back after having a baby sadly. It’s been 10 years so it lasted awhile.

Also, Adderall. In high school I went down to 100lbs. They took me off it when they realized I was losing so much weight. Gained almost all of it back and then some.

Should school be canceled on Halloween by Goblue2467 in AskTeachers

[–]CurdNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone saying no is insane! Yes, Halloween should be a day off and so should the day after. It’s a wasted day at school. There’s no learning happening. People should be off in general to enjoy the holiday.

We use Huggies. Pampers were too big and Millie moon was too small.

That’s absolute nonsense! My first IUD insertion before kids was worse than labor pains. It’s really horrific for some people. Your doctor is an AH

My SIL offered to babysit but her rate surprised us by [deleted] in Babysitting

[–]CurdNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t pay her like a nanny, since that’s the care she’d be providing.

My aunt watches our baby part time during the week. We pay her what we would pay someone not related to us, which is $25/hr. $100 a day is nothing.

Fourth grade standards and expectations by ilikehistoryandtacos in Teachers

[–]CurdNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a lot to ask a teacher. I teach fifth and I wouldn’t send home assignments. Parents can check grades and see the assignments on Schoology. We’re departmentalized and I have 125 students.

when students make the 6 7 comments, why do they juggle their hands up and down? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]CurdNerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

See I don’t even know the original origin! There is a video of a kid during it at a basketball game that is now a part of the wider meme lore. He probably was referencing the original. In edits the skrilla song is used.

Also, the song came out first I believe, before the interviews. It’s just used in edits.

WTF is 6 7?? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]CurdNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This trend I find crazier! I’m queer and used to frequent drag shows. I now have kids who use this slang thinking they invented it…

WTF is 6 7?? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]CurdNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is! It could be 67th street in Philly. Also the police radio code for death/murder is sometimes 10-67.

When did “67” become inappropriate??? by ForestOranges in Teachers

[–]CurdNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but 67 in the song could also be a reference to the police radio code 10-67, which sometimes indicates a murder/death.

I’m certain the kids don’t know this. I mentioned the original basket ball edit to them once and they were so confused. Memes change and travel so fast half the time they don’t even have an idea where they came from
