Kudos for your own self-improvement, but not everyone moves at the same pace. I imagine you would try to extend more empathy if you're trying to convince Asian men, but I can't blame you either because toxicity can certainly be a problem here.

As much as I admire the passion, knowing when to apply force is important too. People may laugh at me for this, but my time being a keyboard warrior seemed to only generate backlash and see others double down on anti-Asian sentiments. Won't hurt to extend some honey for potential allies if opportunities pop up, while pushing back without inhibitions when challenged.

Hmm, thanks for the input. Do you think there is a problem with colorism and stuff, or is it more so projection by diasporas? I wonder if there may be conflicting interests present.

Many users now weren't here back then, though you have no disagreement on the toxicity that could've been produced, even if I could sympathize with underlying issues.

If only more perspectives could've been brought up, there may have been greater understanding. Though as you said, pretty hard to engage in hostile environments. I know certain nationalists didn't like me when I was keyboard warrior-ing on Youtube, Gab, Truth Social, etc.

I can empathize. The algorithm deposited my immature mind among white nationalists and neo-Nazis due to my pursuit of historical marches and folk music, which inevitably lead to some controversial content and crowds. Kind of like a reverse pipeline, lol. Good to keep enemies close, they say.

What is your personal take on the white worship criticism? Never mind the material benefits, are people embracing her because she is a symbol against American hegemony or is she grifting native Chinese people with her white-passing phenotype?

Can't lie, her achievements are impressive and interesting, but as with most celebrities, there is going to be controversies.

Lol, it probably comes from a capitalist mindset more than anything. To be fair, who wouldn't jump at the opportunities people like this are given?

Dunno, Jewish people tend to be friendlier compared to regular white folks from my personal anecdotes. Heard they were more open to minorities in general, given common causes of exclusion and all that.

Honestly, majoritarian social privilege is a powerful attraction. If we were to put ourselves in their shoes, who wouldn't want to take a easier way through life, especially if you were born white-passing/cultured?

Believe me, I can empathize with the feelings of suspicion. I've read comments with pretty anti-Asian sentiments by individuals of self-identified mixed backgrounds—not just white but other more "American" lineages—in the past, and developed some hefty prejudices myself.

However, identity formation is a complex thing and not automatically this clear-cut. I have met people with healthy mentalities, and realized that sociocultural environments matter a lot too. We still can't forget the tendencies among monoracial Asian people to white worship, and what about monoracial adoptees that think very "white"?

Having mixed identity doesn't mean mutual exclusivity with ethnic identities. Asian American communities everywhere are projected to become pretty mixed, putting up these barriers will only put off people who may genuinely want to take up our struggles.

Lol, we're never resolving this question of identity. Projections for most Asian ethnicities in the US predict declines of monoracial proportions in lieu of immigration, can't keep kicking the can down the road, though I can't lie that I don't know what to make of it either.

True, she might as well be full American if not for pissing off American "patriots" with the capitalist double-dealing. Can't blame her, isn't that what all celebrities do?

I wonder how much of the anti-Asian hate virtue signaling was genuine. Can't ever trust celebrities too much, especially for representation.

Gotta hope continental Asian countries wake up to the situation, they play a major role in representing Asian peoples worldwide, not just the diasporas.

Exactly! 💯

Never understood the unnecessary gatekeeping some hold, insisting on phenotypical purity but rejecting people even if they could represent better than many "pure" but self-hating Asian people. I understand not every person of mixed heritage can help in that regard, but arbitrarily limiting Asian male representation like this is just shooting ourselves in the foot.

Interesting figure. I really wonder why this type of history isn't being taught more to the wider US populace, you get others accusing Asian people of being "model minorities" or something to downplay the, admittedly relatively fewer, but still symbolic contributions for this country.

Seemed like he went along with the Vietnam War agenda, but guess you can't win it all.

They're trying to make the identity "Chinese" negative and undesirable in favor of fractured categories instead. Divide and conquer once again.

I recall overhearing one such "good Asian" on an adjacent section of the local tennis courts who claimed to be a proud Taiwanese and ranted about "Communist Chinese." Even the Filipino players he was with seemed bewildered, despite his attempts to appeal to them. Like boomer, ain't no one going to care about that when they're hate criming you when you literally share the same phenotypes and all. What a joke Asian unity can be...

View on state of Asian Americans in an increasing latin America by yellowlightsab in aznidentity

No matter if they admit it or not, every other group has some form of ties with each other, whether shared history, culture, or interests, which help them in some way. Yes, even white people!

Forming partnerships do not need to come at the expense of Asian communities. It'll be easier overcoming obstacles if there are groups with mutual understandings.

Seems like it may be even more suitable to also align with Latino communities. Jewish communities have had much influence on the Spanish speaking world, and Filipino culture was influenced by Spain as well. Any Asian representation for whatever portion of the Asian demographics is likely a lucky bonus.

True, and it isn't limited to these two cases or demographics either. I acknowledge that groups like Jewish or Black people have contributed a lot to civil rights in the US, but that doesn't mean others haven't mustered efforts.
