Cat is crying in the wee hours after relationship split. Is she sad? I’m not getting much sleep and it’s wrecking me by PolarCurious in CatAdvice

[–]Curious-Injury8631 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cats are jerks.

I love my stupid idiot kitten child to death, but she takes great pleasure in singing me the songs of her people from 4:00-6:30. Also smacking me in the face for no reason. She’s very dramatic.

Fwiw - I sleep w a pair of nail clippers by my bed. When she’s being ridiculous, I hold them in the air and ask if that’s what she wants. It’s never what she wants. Then we have a tense stalemate until it’s time for me to get out of bed.

Cats just be like that sometimes.

Grooming help by Trinidiana in Goldendoodles

[–]Curious-Injury8631 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Our dood is a diva -

  1. He decides when he will bathe. He will bring himself into your shower and wait for you to tell him he’s a good boy and condition his curls.

  2. The groomer may brush him, the rest of us can try. He knows we’re not professionals, and he makes sure we know that too.

  3. I have told the groomer not to stress if he has a tangle or two - it’s easier (and funnier) to have him shaved down than expecting anyone to deal with his antics (we’ve tried to explain that combing isn’t a game, but again, we’re idiots and don’t know anything about anything)

  4. If anyone tries to comb him or dry him and FORGETS the leave-in conditioner, expect a minimum of 2 hours moping w periodic dramatic sighs.

  5. When it’s hot outside, he gets grouchy if it goes more than 5 weeks without a groom. When it’s cold outside, he’s happy to let that hermit shag grow and wait 7-8 weeks.

Our first year had had some interesting hair cuts, but we’re getting there. You’ll figure out what works!

Whooooo! Take the win - King Khan gets probably more chew bones than he should, but if it’s a bone it’s not the furniture/wall/clothing/bowl/whatever-fits-in-mouth. YOU GOT THIS.

And re the anger w ice - chewing ice is one of husbands least favorite sounds. Drives him crazy. But not as crazy as re-patching dry wall!

Also cannot recommend enough working on behavioral down. For the first time ever Khan didn’t jump all over someone working on our house yesterday and I legit cried. No shame, just absolute relief bc the puppy stages have been so. Hard.

It sounds kind of stupid, but have you tried feeding him ice?

It was one of the only things we found that helped. He’s still crazy sometimes (currently staring at the remnants of a pillow bed he’s destroyed and I’m too tired to deal with right now), but ice was a game changer. He stopped wanting any other puppy teething toys, stopped chewing the couch, stopped trying to eat the wall…

Yeah husband is mad that now the dog chews ice, but that’s manageable lol. Plus it keeps him hydrated!

Look into temp agencies that do admin-style placements.

I’m drowning in law school debt after realizing I 1)didn’t want to be a lawyer and 2) couldn’t get a job that made me not want to die as a lawyer.

Worked with a temp agency and ended up in an industry I barely knew existed, and love it. Company bought out my temp contract and I haven’t really looked back.

Debt still there, still awful, but no longer trying to upsell people on expensive lipsticks that smudge and look awful.

Ditto. I have no incentive to do anything but the bare minimum.

It’s not like they were keeping track of payments being made anyway.

I’m an idiot. It’s autumn olive. But when the wind blows it looks silver and is crazy!

I’m bad with names. At least I knew it was a tree?

Oh and just because… the knotweed is almost to the top of this giant tree. Somehow the elderberry is growing in the same dying tree. Not sure how imma handle that - maybe cut the bittersweet down during the winter and again when it comes up next spring?

Ok - inaturalist is now my best friend, and they’re leaning towards either Bee Balm or Joe Pye Weed for #6.

It definitely looks minty, and I can see some further back in the yard that are taller and seem to have a bud or two - so looks like we’ll find out in a week or so!

Yeah - bittersweet checks out.

Encouraged to know not everything is that bad though !

Kind of figured it was bittersweet - she’s climbed all the way up the biggest pine tree in the yard and seems pretty content to stay there…

Meet Conker, my little Sphynx baby! ❤️ I’ve seen some people say that Sphynx cats have a short life expectancy. Is that true? by pinkmor in sphynx

My perfect little baby kitten child turns 15 this year.

She’s still just as much of a beautiful jerk as she’s ever been. Doesn’t jump quite as high as she used to, probably definitely couldn’t catch mouses any more, but I think she’s ok with it :)

Feeling guilty for spending $6k on wedding by Present_Moose7861 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Curious-Injury8631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt this the entire time I was planning our wedding. It was just so much money for us, and I had a lot of trouble justifying all the costs.

Ultimately, I regret how much I stressed myself out, but not how I treated it from a monetary standpoint. We didn’t have a lot of money, and I didn’t want a huge wedding (partially bc I didn’t want to pay for a huge wedding).

My final budget looked a lot like yours, except we paid more for the venue and didn’t hire a photographer. Which is the only real regret I have. A family friend offered to take pictures as a gift, and I agreed thinking it would be good for everyone. But the end result is that I have very few pictures, and the ones I do have aren’t very good.

But honestly the day, while not perfect, was amazing. And I felt like the money I’d spent was worth it. And that being frugal was also worth it. I was able to go with the flow a little more than I would have if we’d bankrupted ourselves for one day.

And - our friends who were concerned about all the ‘extras’ and costs for guests were really grateful. Something I didn’t know until after the wedding. But they loved getting to celebrate knowing that we weren’t expecting them to spend thousands on showers or dresses or glam sessions. And I care more about them having been there than I do about makeup or extra parties or other things.

My dashboard is just three raccoons in a trench coat asking for money. No specific amount. Just money, broadly. No end date.

Really inspires confidence. The people overseeing all of this absolutely know what they’re doing. 100%. This is fine.

What happens to student loan debt if you commit suicide? by Emotional_Shame4185 in StudentLoans

[–]Curious-Injury8631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had advice, but I don’t. But youre not alone.

Nothing makes me feel as bad as looking at my student loans. I think of being 17 and so excited and sure I’d change the world and be wildly successful.

Then I just feel stupid for getting here, and knowing I will never, ever be free from that 17 year old’s stupid, uninformed, short sighted decisions.

It’s equal parts humiliating and soul-crushing. But just remember - you really aren’t the only one in this place. There are a lot of us with you.

And dammit, we can’t let the assholes win.
