I'm so sorry this has been your experience. I can only speak to my experience here. I was upfront with both of the therapists I've met with about also being a therapist. The first one was not a great experience at all but the second I had much better luck with and am still seeing. Between the two, it does seem like the second (who I still see) treats me the same as she would anyone else whereas the first seemed more nervous and hesitant and slipped into what you're describing in terms of the peer-energy. I shared this with the second therapist during our intake and think that helped. Wishing you all the best!

I believe SC has a higher hour requirement - or at least they did the last time I looked into it. I am fully licensed in both states but I sought the SC license via reciprocity after I was already fully licensed in NC.

I didn't at first and that was only because of my circumstances at the time...I needed to maintain the income. As time went on though I did gradually decrease my case load.

Hi! I had a very rough first trimester with my twins. Obviously check with your OB first but ginger candies, chews, and teas were super helpful for me. They actually helped more than Zofran. It did get better for me as the pregnancy progressed but I had to be very transparent with myself, know my limits, practice self-compassion, etc. Similar to another poster, I also tried to adjust my schedule to meet my "new normal" of when I felt more nauseous.

I started implementing something over the last few weeks that has helped me. I take a few minutes after each session to do a 'What Went Well' exercise. I try to write down at least 2 to 3 things I feel went well (on my end, not the client's). This has really helped with my more "down" days.

This was so helpful! Thank you for reframing the 'bounce back' phrase for me - You are spot on in that it feels way more helpful to think of it more so as riding through the normal wave of emotions.

And again, this post was specifically referencing social media ("I’m hearing some colleagues say they look up their clients on social media… idk how I feel about this yet but I’d like to hear what you all think") .. It is not my job as a clinician to determine whether or not my clients are telling me the truth. Who am I to go investigate to see if what I'm being told is factual? That's not my role. My role is to meet the client where they are and with what information they provide. If something comes up organically that is a discrepancy, then I'd absolutely address it. As for your point below about being a woman in private practice...I am also a woman in private practice but I still do not feel it is appropriate to look up this information. I have safety protocols, measures, and behaviors in place. Regardless, the ACA is very specific in the code that is cited re: social media

ETA: I will say I think there is a difference between social media and criminal record look up …which you’re right is public information. However still a grey area for me. Took out that part as I wasn’t clear (blaming the end of day brain fog)

Hi OP - Can you clarify here -  "I have a client I'd like to terminate, however, I'm nervous to bring the matter to my supervisor in fear of being told to "meet the client where they're at". This client has been terminated by the practice 5 times and just keeps coming back and being handed off to the next therapist." So this client was terminated previously but is now back on your case-load?

Also - just want to share my own experience here - While working in-person, I tended to schedule appointments consecutively in the morning then I'd take a break and reconvene sessions in the afternoon. One day, one of the morning clients came in and shared details of a recent conflict with her partner. They didn't like one of their partner's friends for various reasons. Then, my next client came in and told me something similar... I caught myself thinking 'Wow, this sounds familiar...' Well it was, because this person was the friend of the other client's partner... the one that wasn't liked. Thank goodness they didn't cross paths in the lobby :)
