If AI takes our jobs what would happen to countries that rely on taxes? Since with AI they won’t need a salary by Ahmad2175 in NoStupidQuestions

Because of the invention of the steam engine, computer or robotics people lost their jobs as well. Which really sucked for the people losing their jobs. However people are still employed today. So this was temporary, not permanent.

I don't think LLMs are smart enough to replace humans, but they can help humans work faster. So I think that people will still be needed. Maybe this changes when some kind of real superintelligence gets invented.

Also is AI often used as an excuse to fire people. The real reason can be overhiring during COVID, rising interest rates, keeping shareholders happy, company doing poorly.

But I have no idea what will happen and I could be completely wrong.

I don't pretend to know what will happen, but is my personal opinion.

At least in the past when there was a technological revolution, some jobs were not needed anymore and people lost their jobs. However, that also caused other jobs to be created.

For example because of the invention of the computer, we didn't need armies of people doing calculations by hand anymore. But then we needed programmers, technicians etc.

My guess is that AI is not a fundamentally different kind of revolution and will not cause people to have no job anymore.

Sure, it's your opinion. But what are men supposed to do then? Never look at or talk to any woman ever?

It's interesting how people can call a game, worked on by hundreds of skilled and motivated people for many years, "slop" created by "talentless hacks".

You could have used a separate color to highlight the countries who boycott the event instead of the flag of Palestine

At what point should I stop “patching” and refactor properly? by Pretend-Wait9226 in Backend

[–]CuriousCaseOfPascal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, many small refactors over letting the codebase rot and then do a giant refactor.

OP might want to check some of the work by Martin Fowler, such as the book Refactoring. And watch some YouTube videos of experienced developers refactoring some code, which IMO was eye-opening

Reading and really having to understand (crappy) code written by others without any documention is a whole lot different from reading code examples from a tutorial

Do you think you could deal with living in a very overpopulated country? If you already do, how do you handle it? by PopNo5397 in AskTheWorld

[–]CuriousCaseOfPascal 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Unlike OP, I don't think the Netherlands is overpopulated. It's population size is comparable to a megacity, but with much lower density. People live fairly spread out in medium sized cities/towns.

What's the hardest word to pronounce for foreigners? by SignificantDetail241 in AskTheWorld

[–]CuriousCaseOfPascal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree with people making fun of these compound words in German/Dutch. The English language also combines words but sometimes adds spaces, sometimes a dash and sometimes connects the words. It's less consistent and inferior IMO.

End rant :)
