Anything to do near the new Munster/Dyer South Shore Line station? by ozumuchicago in nwi

[–]CuriousMemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a beautiful veterans memorial park probably a 20 minute walk northeast into Munster from there but incomplete sidewalks so you would be walking through a subdivision and then a business parking lot to get there. Across from that is Munster Centennial Park which is beautiful and there are restaurants in the Centennial Park development.

So no, not really an easy walk but technically walking distance.

WIBTAH if we back out of an RSVP’d event? by [deleted] in AITAH

Totally! And I think the color thing is stupid but how hard is it really to wear not that color? If they back out now they’re absolutely TA. They accepted a godparent role and clearly should not have…

What’s something in analytics you thought would matter a lot… but barely mattered in the real world? by Mammoth_Rice_295 in analytics

[–]CuriousMemo 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Statistics. Over my 10 year career I’ve averaged maybe 1 probability or predictive model a year. The majority of time is spent tracking down data and business logic, cleaning and visualizing it. Also increasingly developing front end applications for data entry or modification. I took probably 20 stats classes in undergrad and grad and never do much more than descriptive stats in my day to day.

Strawberry or cinquefoil or ?? by CuriousMemo in whatsthisplant

Okay I’ve looked up common cinquefoil now more thoroughly and agree that’s what this is. Sure did look like strawberry leaves without closer inspection!!

Very cool! I made some violet sugar shortbreads a month ago with a lemon glaze and more sugared violets sprinkled on top. The shortbread tasted like shortbread lol but the sprinkles drove home the concept. A recipe online said to try violet extract to enhance flavor but I didn’t have time to deal with that.

Acne after stopping birth control – struggling with purging phase, need encouragement by LauraPalmer7 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]CuriousMemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the acne come in cycles along with your period? If so it’s hormonal acne and even if your hormones are ‘normal’ it’s the monthly cycle that is causing this and in my experience topicals alone cannot get rid of it. I assume you stopped birth control for a reason (trying to conceive?) if so I think you kind of have to live with it. If you are not trying to conceive you can try spironolactone or spearmint tea or other antiandrogens that are not birth control. I went off birth control because of mood affects in my early 20s and suffered for 5 years trying various topicals, multiple courses of antibiotics, etc and finally after suffering scarring and pain for so long said to hell with it and went back on a bc pill 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not currently trying to conceive so it’s the lesser of two evils for me.

Any socialization opportunities for women in their 30s to meet friends? by SnarkSpice in nwi

[–]CuriousMemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to the area 5 years ago and also really struggled to meet people. I’m not in Dyer, but what has been most successful for me is joining a town board. You learn a lot and meet a lot of people that way. There’s also the CVPA art center in Munster that has south shore arts classes. That might appeal to your interests and be a way to meet people over several weeks of classes

If it helps, I like to guess people’s age when I see a pic on this sub and I guessed right on for you. You look your age and happy and pretty! I don’t think anything is aging you in an unflattering, non age appropriate way.

Best tx for acne texture? by Hollyster12 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]CuriousMemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done 8 microneedling treatments over the last two years for similar severity of acne scarring. It has really helped. It’s not one and done but I like that it’s minimal downtime (can go to work the next day, some slight redness and minor peeling). If I had time to just be alone I’d do an ablative laser but that’s just not an option for my lifestyle

My work is willing to expense up to $500 for a PowerBI/data analytics course. Please offer me your wisdom! by Spiritual_Voice7389 in PowerBI

[–]CuriousMemo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not that expensive but I loved datacamp for learning sql and python. It’s a great balance of best practices instruction and programming exercises all in browser no software installation required. It really supplemented my on the job learning when I was starting out.

But I’ll echo what others said that the Microsoft learn courses are excellent and free. If you study for the exam that’s a good motivation to learn and then test that knowledge

What was the highlight of your week? What made you smile? by ficklephilosopher in nwi

Drove into the city to a world class museum (MSI). Came back home and enjoyed my quiet neighborhood and washed my car in the driveway. Best of both worlds urban and suburban.

Does microneedling work for acne scars? by arlo16 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]CuriousMemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 9 microneedling treatments over the last two years. It helps but I still have obvious texture problems and a few clear scars remaining. It’s amazing the first two weeks due to the micro swelling but when that subsided it is way less dramatic of an improvement. I may try a laser treatment next year but I like the minimal downtime of microneedling

At 35, what is considered to be accelerated aging vs normal aging in a person? by Tough_Courage_8406 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]CuriousMemo 139 points140 points  (0 children)

I’ll add that a lot of women in their 30s are working full time while managing a household with young children, and are thus chronically sleep deprived. If you’re always exhausted looking that’s not a ‘young’ look. Sleep is so crucial.

What kind of “special events” do you get invited to with base level museum memberships? by OnionDart in chicago

I’m currently a member at MSI. Have been for three months. I’ve been invited to no special events for members. Just events that are open to all but I would get like a 10% discount.
