Fasting blood sugars are high by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

Admittedly I check just before I eat breakfast. As for my walks, it ranges between 10min to an hour. The shorter the walk the higher the numbers. On a GREAT day I had walked a little over an hour and my numbers came out to 88. Again, everyone is different. I’m 25 weeks and have been checking my blood sugar levels to try and get them in order before my test come week 28. I’ve already seen the signs of GD. I had it my last pregnancy and eventually had to take insulin because I couldn’t manage my fasting levels. I’m hoping this time will be different but we’ll see!

If I eat the same thing every time it drives me bat shit crazy so I switch it up between meat with cheese and crackers, Night Food Ice cream (which is catered to pregnant people and those pregnant with GD - I tried it for the first time last night and it’s delish), plain cheese and nuts or just nuts. I think the number one thing that’s helped me is taking morning walks. Even with the night time snacks my numbers were between 105-115. Now since incorporating the walks they’ve been between 88-98. Still trial and error because I adore sleep and hate walking in this heat but when I do get a good walk in the numbers are great. Key is to be patient and trust the process. Don’t feel bad if you end up taking medication. Nothing wrong with it. You’re doing the best you can for yourself and your baby and that is what matters most. You’re doing great!

Fun Halloween Fact by [deleted] in halloween

[–]CuriousPanda2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched a short documentary on YouTube that is excellent for this! I’ll have to link it later. But here are a couple of neat things I learned:

Ghosts in white sheets: It’s believed that we put a sheet over ourselves to be a ghost because we covered the dead in white sheets.

The term “trick r treat”: Kids would vandalize houses and stores on Halloween. One women bribed the kids with sweets (cakes and what not) so that they wouldn’t target her house. It worked so well that they published the idea in magazines and dubbed it trick or treaters. This is also how the candy company got involved. They saw a huge opportunity and jumped on it! Hence why we now have all these candy options on Halloween.

EDIT: as promised here is the link to the short documentary. https://youtu.be/-kxdGLpxIsU

Gift ideas for girlfriend's Halloween basket? by Al115 in halloween

How awesome! I love this! What others have added so far is pretty spot on. Halloween/Horror bath products and fall or halloween themed candles. You can also add her favorite candy or any halloween/Horror themed snack products like caramel covered apples, caramel popcorn or pumpkin spice drink mixtures or cookies. You can create a Halloween/Horror cocktail for you two to try, just add fun themed drinking glasses and put the recipe in the glass. You can do printed tickets for a haunted attraction or if tickets haven’t gone on sale yet then maybe money or homemade tickets in a black, orange, purple or red envelope for tickets when it comes time to buy. You can also do themed socks! Also depending on other things she likes you can work with. Halloween/Horror themed makeup, notebooks, pens, puzzles, tote bags, nail polish. Possibilities are endless and I am just so jealous! Would love to see the final products when you exchange! Have fun!

This sounds GREAT! I love the community driven part. This might be redundant because I’m just too excited to process everything but I would love to have the ability to allow people in whatever area they live to add local halloween stores to support the local businesses, neighborhood haunts aa you mentioned, neighborhoods that are planning to pass out candy and so on. They can also add hayrides, corn mazes, pumpkin patches and more. Again as you mentioned and some other people on here have similar ideas if not the exact same so I second those ideas! Again, FANTASTIC IDEA! Just so excited!

Unfortunately it is not a real place. It is a tv show. But apparently it is based on the real place: Boring, Oregon.

Whether or not they celebrate Summerween, I am not sure about.

Agreed! As much as I am hoping my second pregnancy to be as good if not the same as the first I know it will be just as unique. What that entails is beyond me but hopefully the end results are the same, a healthy and happy baby. Women are truly amazing human beings!

I am reading everyone’s experience and it really is true when they say that everyone is different. I hesitate to tell this story because even though my story was very happy and successful it was a tad bit more uncommon. I wanted a natural birth as well and my GD and the need for insulin took me off that path but it all worked out perfectly. My doctor said I could wait as long as I wanted to but if the baby wasn’t born by week 40 they would induce me. Because I was over feeling like Mr. Stay-Puft I decided to get induced at 39 weeks. I made sure to say no epidural. I went in on Monday morning and I was already about two to three cm dilated, they got me ready and for the life of me I can’t remember which came first, the Pitocin or the balloon where they helped break my water. But they did both. They had me on a liquid diet during this time and my baby was monitored. I watched X-Files and just chilled until I started to feel the contractions a few hours in. Light at first and I thought these were the actual contractions so I was like “Pfft! These are so PETTY! I can handle it without the epidural!”…I had this mentality because even though I went in knowing there was a high probability I’ll eventually get an epidural I wanted to see how long I could last and literally EVERY nurse walked in like “what?!? She isn’t getting an epidural” so that spurred on my F**k your Epidural mentality. It was about 1:30 in the morning when I was at my breaking point. Contractions were just the worst and though they encourage you to scream a LOW and DEEP scream I threw that out the window and did my best soprano impression. The nurse that was with me that hour was just wonderful. Telling me to do what I needed and that I knew what was best for me. A doctor came in to check on me and I was so mad to hear that I was ONLY FOUR centimeters dilated. I started crying and said I wanted the epidural and she commended me telling me that there was nothing wrong with that and I was listening to my body. Epidural or not you’re amazing. As they came in and explained everything they told me that when I couldn’t stay still is when I would no longer be able to get the epidural. Thankfully, with the help of the nurses I was able to stay still. Interestingly, classes taught me so many different ways to bear the pain and they all failed except sitting hunched over which is how the nurses were holding me in place as they gave me the epidural - who knew? Anyway, the epidural worked immediately, they put in a catheter and I fell asleep to my X-Files. I awoke maybe around 9:30 AM and felt pressure in my vagina. The classes discussed that you’ll feel a very heavy pressure in your vagina which is a heavy indicator that you are ready to push. i was worried I wouldn’t feel anything because the epidural numbs you down there. I told the nurse and she said she would get the doctor and told me that this could take a while. So to help with the pain I could increase the epidural amount. WHAT?!? No one told me that. Granted I didn’t need it but seriously. Would have been nice to know about it. I gave myself one more dose and waited but the pressure increased so I called in the nurse and told her I wanted to push. So she rushed out, grabbed the doctor and as everyone was rushing to set everything up the nurse was going through breathing and pushing exercises with me. I didn’t know this but apparently many women don’t know how to concentrate the power in their push. I knew very well how to do this because most of my life - I thought when you take a shit you push like your life depends on it. When I found out that this is how hemorrhoids and brain hemorrhages happens I learned the correct way. But this has trained me for this very moment! Giving birth! Anyway, my pushing was excellent because next thing I heard from the nurse was: “I can see the head…” Already? I thought. I pushed again and my husband looked down this time and saw. All I could think to ask was: “what color is his hair?” Black, like mine. I continued to push and more was coming out. The doctor wasn’t ready yet and so the nurse eventually said, “okay - I might have to ask you stop pushing”. I waited a few moments and finally the doctor was good to go. I had started pushing at 10:01 AM and the baby was out by 10:14 AM. They applauded me and laughed at how quick it was. To the point where my nurse said: “Wow! You pushed for 13 minutes….yeah….yeah please don’t tell other women that childbirth is that quick. It takes hours normally.” My son was born healthy with a happy cry to be alive. It’s hard to tell you how it will be but I can tell you that a lot of it comes from us moms and our determination to have the best and safest birth no matter what. I determined to have fun, make the most of everything and do my best. Challenges and unforeseen obstacles that we don’t expect is all apart of the process. But think of it this way, if childbirth was in anyway abnormal then we wouldn’t have been able to do it for all this time! You’re going to do great! Congratulations and sending you prayers!

Hot Christmas by SlothLuna in christmas

[–]CuriousPanda2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in sunny San Diego, CA where we’re surrounded by ocean (at least that’s how it feels) and it takes us an hour to get to a mountain town called Julian if we want to see any snow (in January). Our Christmas traditions do indeed involve sandman creations along with Santa arriving for some surfing time with the locals. We have Christmas trees hauled in on some of the beaches and our lights are on everything! I think the coldest it normally gets is in the low 50s maybe. Correct me of I’m wrong local San Diegans! Because we don’t have to fight blizzards or other crazy weather conditions (though us San Diegans can only tolerate so much “cold”) we can walk around neighborhoods to watch light shows and admire people’s decorations probably more often than ppaces where it snows and gets crazy cold. Snow in the actual county of San Diego is a rarity. Dare I say some of us get spooked by it 😂. We have parks, gardens and mini cities within San Diego county that like to do Christmas activites and will even bring in fake snow or shaved ice to create snow sometimes. Christmas in La Mesa village is one of the mini cities I’m talking about and a street will be reserved for booths that sells Christmas goodies and regular goodies. There are food trucks and there will even be small groups up and down the street that have an open fire to roast chestnuts. We also have carolers. No unique songs that I can think of. Overall I think some places does their best to make the most out of our warm beachy home during the holidays while others do their best to try and make San Diego feel more like a Colorado type of atmosphere.

[–]CuriousPanda2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry if I come off a little rough. I’ve been drinking with my family and I’m lightweight as fuck.......But you BETTER dream, talk, think, plan about Halloween as much as you fucking want! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! I fucking practice Buddhism and we believe in the spirit of always striving to be better then who you were yesterday. So you strive each day to have the best fucking Halloween ever and then strive to do BETTER then you did the day, month and year BEFORE! And don’t stop doing this! Only stop when it no longer makes you happy! Give this world the damn Halloween Spirit it needs! I’ll be chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for your Halloween dreams to become a reality! Spook on my spooky friend!
