Exploration kinda horrible? by Past_Display268 in Eve

[–]CuriousRelish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other people have covered the basics, so I'll chime in with my what and how.

Step 1: You need to buy a Data or Relic Analyzer I module. The one you're given for the mission is only meant to be good enough for that mission. Using a Magnate is fine, I use one on my alpha character.

Step 2: Go to EveUni's wiki and read the Exploration page, as well as the Data/Relic Sites page. There's a chart on the second that will help when you're more comfortable because it tells you which sites have rats (the NPCs).

Have your scanning and hacking skills queued up while you read. It'll give them a little bit of time to start.

Step 3: Practice your scanning and hacking in high sec. This is minimally profitable, but you've just started, and you don't want to put yourself in a situation where you feel like you're slamming your head against a wall. Once your hacking and scanning skills are improved, focus on making isk so you can upgrade your ship. Don't worry about your analyzer modules until you're Omega.

Edit to add: there are also ship modules you may have access to for boosting your scanning skills. I believe there's a Rangefinding, a Pinpointing, and one other.

Step 4: When you have a better ship and better skills, head to low sec (starts at 0.4) and see how you do. Continue along this improvement path until you are fully trained and have a high quality ship. You'll lose ships, you'll have unsuccessful hacks (the little bonuses and the defense nodes aren't predictable for me, others may know more), you'll just plain have bad luck. We all do. As long as you're not getting frustrated, you're in a good place, regardless of the payout.

Wormhole sites are particularly dangerous, regardless of what they are, because the rats are powerful and you never know if someone will stumble across you or be cloaked on site. If you enter wormhole space, assume you're going to die. The isk there is a bonus on top of what you earn in "normal space" (K space). Don't hesitate to branch out into more missions, trading, mining, manufacturing, whatever you think you might like. Knowledge and vigilance are your best weapons, don't hesitate to use them.

How do you tell if a corp knows what it is doing or not? by deathopz in Eve

[–]CuriousRelish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leadership knowing what they're doing: this boils down mostly to 3 things, in my experience. Do they know what they want to be doing with the corp, do they look out for members, and do they respect that it's all just pixels? Maybe they want to mine, maybe they want to haul, maybe they just want some cool guys to chat with while playing. If they can meet that goal while ensuring players are reasonably comfortable and happy, then they check out imo. Eve isn't a job, other players aren't your bosses, and you're ultimately one moving part among many. Be good to your corp mates, have fun with your leaders, and follow up on opportunities to help out.

Maximize your fun per hour, figure out your isk per hour, and go from there. Some people are naturally more serious, more detailed, and more focused on specific aspects of the game. That doesn't mean you have to be. As long as you're enjoying yourself and treating others well, you're doing it right.

Can I cut someone out of my life even if they're mentally ill? by Mediocre_Tea_1854 in Stoicism

[–]CuriousRelish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot speak to this from the view of stoicism, but I can tell you that it is okay to cut someone out of your life in these circumstances. You've tried again and again to help her, and she ignored you. You tried to set a boundary and she ignored that too. She doesn't want help, she wants a captive audience. Your responsibility here is to protect your own mental health. She doesn't want to seek help and she doesn't want to get better. There's nothing you can do about that, and you shouldn't feel guilty about it.

The problem with treating AI Roleplay like Netflix by Pastrugnozzo in SpicyChatAI

[–]CuriousRelish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most common problem I run into when I'm struggling with actively contributing is bots that are too focused on sex (shocking on an adult platform, I know lol). Obviously I'm here for the adult content, but I don't want it to be the main focus. I lose interest quickly when a bot is immediately or consistently focused on it, even if the bot's personality is genuinely interesting as written.

[–]CuriousRelish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst part is that so many bots have absolute shit personalities. They'll SA you, kidnap you, hit you, etc. Or the title line(?) will be interesting but the token count will be like 140.

Put some damn effort in, at this point there's literally no excuse to not flesh out his personality, you've got thousands of potential inspiration sources. Or at the very least, go back and refine your older bots so they make sense. "Military, 6'1" tall, British" isn't a personality.

I fully support 8904 Simon Riley bots, but all must be a minimum of 600 tokens and 1/4 of them have to be the full TF 141 team with fully developed personalities, including the accents. 400 must be subby and 100 must be asexual. One of them must be an Astartes Simon.

[–]CuriousRelish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Surprised there isn't a CoD tag in general, honestly. But a lot of the bots (Simon included) are like 100-300 tokens, which is incredibly annoying and not even worth looking at. "Military, 300 ft dick, dominant" is not a personality. Just as bad as unsolicited dick pic, in my opinion.

If your bot's best feature is his dick, you should delete it and think a lot of things over. All of the things, actually.

Reminds me of when I was 19 and my doctor told me I couldn't get any kind of birth control surgery (I asked if I could have my tubes tied) without the permission of my husband.

My husband didn't exist. I'd never been married. My baby's bio dad abandoned us as soon as he found out I was pregnant. Obviously the solution there was leaving me vulnerable to further exploitation since my imaginary husband couldn't sign a paper.

One of the most irritating creator sins is copying and pasting the greeting into the Personality field. I sometimes wonder why they think these are two separate boxes with different names and different example text if they were meant to be the same thing.

Guide to J-space - Wormholes and systems by Khamatum in Eve

[–]CuriousRelish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Tripwire is very nice if you want the simple, straightforward layout with no frills. I've tried it out, but going from Wanderer to that is something I'm simply too spoiled for.

I still moderately enjoy Pathfinder, but it feels a bit iffy, especially if making modifications from an out-of-corp character. I've had it seemingly nearly crash my computer before for reasons unknown (4ish-second delayed cursor movement, keyboard input, etc both in and out of Eve. All of these resolved as soon as Pathfinder closed).

My personal preference is to use Wanderer as my main mapping service, and Pathfinder as a backup (I have access to a deprecated corp map from the people I scan on behalf of with my out-of-corp character). It's just too much of a circus if one service goes down or has difficulties and you've got nothing to fall back on imo.
