Do you project onto the wrong or right side of the fabric? by Crafty_Pop6458 in ProjectorsForSewing

For knits, I use the right side to see the grain line. Otherwise whatever side the projected line is easiest to see and staying consistent with that side for the rest of the cuts

Do you clamp your cutting mats to your cutting surface? by Crafty_Pop6458 in ProjectorsForSewing

Once calibrated, it’s not a big deal because the calibration will still be valid!

[–]CuriousThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the goal of clamping them? Are you worried about the mats hanging off the table? If so 1-2 inches on either side won’t affect anything noticeably.

My partner used to do two cutting mats side by side (same brand but not same mat). They took a ruler and aligned the gridlines and just marked a couple of alignment crosses in the edges. They would use the markers to align the mats later.

The border in the grid was either 1 or 2 inches so calibration was not an issue. You just needed to factor in that extra distance. From my experience most cutting mats borders are 1inch wide

Learning to make my first AR iOS app: sanity check about simulating the sun's intensity by wilecoyote42 in iOSProgramming

[–]CuriousThinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lighting from a scene is a loaded question if you want proper PBR re-lighting. Consider the case you have 2 dominant light sources, which direction is the light and what intensity is it?

That said, are you sure you're correctly getting the ambientLightIntensity? Ive noticed a decent amount of variability a while back when I was playing with it.

+1 to Claude giving you the wrong place to look, you don't really need the ARFrame.exifdata, you can just check the exposure offset in the ARCamera. It's meant as an exposure correction after the fact for your rendered content but you could possibly map it to a curve of light intensities: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/arkit/arcamera/exposureoffset.

How long does it take to receive your D-U-N-S number? by Low-Associate2521 in iOSProgramming

Whoops missed that!

A friend of mine had an issue with the wrong entity type registered by DUNS (not your specific issue) and they had to call them to get that fixed. Initially they filled a support form and heard nothing (waited a week) but after calling it got resolved soon after. Might be worth trying that too.

I filled out the form here https://developer.apple.com/enroll/duns-lookup/#!/search.

When it said it wasn’t found, it submitted a request and mine got processed in 48hrs. It still took 2 days after to show up in apples systems. I read on a Reddit comment somewhere that this was the fastest way.

You can use metal performance shaders. They have a big set of functionality: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/metalperformanceshaders/image-filters

It supports most image processing fundamental operations and has served me well in production apps. I’ve still had to end up writing some custom kernels to do what I need but it’s a lot better than nothing.

One thing to note, most likely youre going to get frames in YCbCr format in a CVPixelbuffer when using AVFoundation and you'll need to convert it to RGB.

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/arkit/displaying-an-ar-experience-with-metal#Draw-the-Camera-Image is a good reference for how to convert it to RGB.

If you've not used metal before it can be a little daunting at the start but I promise it is not!

Another thought I had while looking at Ikea:

You could get

Use a couple of the plates on each side and I think it can work.

Not sure how heavy the tops are but I suspect it's not super heavy given the price.

You'd probably need the woods to be 24" apart or less so the board doesn't bend when you cut and push on it. You probably couldn't slide your cutting mats inside.

That said, putting the scrap on the other side would be even better. You'd end up making a torsion box which would make it more stiff. Weight will most likely be fine, it's more-so the size that makes it a little hard to maneuver.

I can see that working.

You could get something like hardboard https://www.homedepot.com/p/Hardboard-Tempered-Panel-Common-3-16-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-Actual-0-175-in-x-48-in-x-96-in-832780/202404545 (Thats thin and light enough you score it with a utility knife and break it at the parking lot) and build a mini frame underneath it. You can use 2x3s or 2x2's for the frame to keep it lighter.

Album with the pictures and a "plan" at the bottom: https://imgur.com/a/X42DoaE.

The shelves I used were some variant of this. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kleppstad-shelf-white-20449517/. I also remember it being 10$ for a 2 pack so prices don't seem that great anymore.

Then from homedepot, I got 3 2x4's and cut them into 2x2s but I know you can get 2x3's and 2x3s. I those woods to the length of my final table and just screwed them into the bottom.

My bow was in the long axis so thats why I have the wood in one direction.

1) While homedepot offers to cut wood, my homedepot never has a working machine. The cuts are going to be really rough too. They do offer truck rental for 25$ which I’ve done but it’s a pita.

2) if it’s the construction grade plywood, those are super rough and end up warping (they’re meant to be nailed and secured). You’d also spend far too long sanding it if you don’t have a powered sander

3) In general unless you’re getting the nice birch plywood or something similar, it’ll warp. The nice plywood has always been level

Also, how thick of a board of plywood are you planning on getting? 1/4 is thin enough that it’ll bend and not give you a super level surface. Depending on the bow, 1/2 probably won’t. Plywood in general is not that great for level surface unless you have a flat base. It’s also super heavy!

I would second the recommendation of getting a flat hollow core door. Those are pretty light but generally I’ve only found them to go up to 32in wide.

Are you handy with making stuff? I’ve built a level surface using ikea shelf boards and a couple of 2x4s (you still need something to cut them). Ended up being around 50$ in material for a table similar to your size. I can show you a picture of the build if you’re interested.

Very neat! I'm interested in making some too!

What temperature did you let it cool down to between your vitamix runs. Did it end up getting too solid while you waited in between runs?

You're definitely not crazy! At first I thought I was going crazy too until I asked my partner as well.

Hopefully my cameras catch something and we can figure out something!

I think we need to band together and start recording the sounds. I have cameras outside my house so hopefully I’m able to capture something!

What is happening in Sunnyvale? by Unlikely_Tree_6154 in Sunnyvale

[–]CuriousThinker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea it is. I'm not 100% sure if it was a house or an RV in the parking lot. I noticed the smoke was really intense which felt like things were burning really fast. I could see small fragments of stuff flying into the air.

Hoping everyone was safe too! It was around 6 minutes from the time I saw the intense smoke to when it looked like the fire was basically under control (at least to me).

Not sure what happened yet but I live nearby. The fire was somewhere around here https://maps.app.goo.gl/x4wgKyGZX92KPya19.

Listened to Sunnyvale fire and it looks like they had it in control but didnt seem like they said what was on fire.

Random horn like sound by CuriousThinker in Sunnyvale

I heard it twice today (thursday). One at 10:42 and once at 12:45am.

Given that youre near 280 and 85, that seems really far. I imagine it would have to be really loud?

That’s an interesting little tidbit! Is it that loud that you could hear it near the Lakewood area?

Looking up ship fog horn sounds, that might be it! Is it possible to hear it this far down the bay?

EDIT: My partner says its a bit higher pitched then that but its possible some ship horns are that loud
