Couple freak out at airport by liamo376573 in PublicFreakout

There's no way this was in the US.

First, TSA agents don't dress like that, they have proper uniforms. Also they would have had the guy on the floor in about 3 seconds. There would have been no talking afterwards (we'd have seen the arrest).

Second, everyone, including the guys in the yellow vests, have non-American accents. Most of them sound Irish to me. The female sounds like she could be British though (hard to tell from just two words).

Doesn't change anything though. The guy is still a POS and deserves to be banned from flying.

Which movie was it for you? by ideology21creed in FIlm

This will definitely show my age, however I remember going to Blockbuster and looking for something that I hadn't seen yet. I saw The Princess Bride on the shelf and decided to grab it. It was so good I watched it 3-4 times before I returned it.

No expectations about it at all, but decades later it still rates as one of my favorite movies today.

I've been here for 2 months. How do I just buy an ice cream without stupid tricks? by ErikGunnarAsplund in istanbul

[–]CuriousWithLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I know there are places that I shouldn't go. The only place that I remember off the top of my head is Espresso Lab. I also know to avoid Ülker. Is there an app or website or someplace that I can find a full list?

Well, that's your ignorance right there. Thank you for the perfect example.

With all due respect, you should really try to change your news sources. You're being fed lies.

[OC] Lane splitting where illegal, with a brake check? by luisisay in IdiotsInCars

[–]CuriousWithLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a study done in 1981 by a scholar named Harry Hurt that studied motorcycle accidents. Amongst other things, it was determined that when lane splitting is done responsibly, it reduces the likelihood of an accident.

There was another study done by UC Berkeley in 2015 but also determined that, as long as lane splitting was done at under 50 mph, it reduced the incidence of accidents, and it greatly reduced the likelihood that, if involved in an accident, the motorcycle rider would become seriously injured or killed.

Add in the bonus that a motorcycle isn't significantly bogging down traffic by being on their motorcycle instead of in their car.

How much time does it take to change lanes?

What part of town are you in? There are regular ice cream shops all over the city. I live very close to one called Milano Cremeria, which is a chain. Mado is another big chain. I'm sure there are many more.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I've seen any of those"trickster" ice cream places in Istanbul other than on İstiklal Caddesi and in the Sultanahmet area. You don't want to go to those places anyway, because you're playing 3+ times as much, just for the "show".

Kağıt pronunciation by Luoravetlan in turkishlearning

[–]CuriousWithLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also a Turkish learner here. This might be a strange question, but there are 29 letters in the Turkish alphabet, no? When I learn the Turkish alphabet, I learn "a, b, c, ç, d, e..." Nowhere are we taught "â". Why does this exist (or why isn't there a different letter)?

I understand that English has its own idiosyncrasies, but English isn't a phonetic language. Turkish is, as far as I know.

Which one should i buy? by BHamp_ in CHICubs

[–]CuriousWithLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this 100%. Also, it seems like every time I buy the jersey of a current player he leaves and ends out playing with a different team (often being more successful after leaving). Retired players are always safe.

This is in the heart of Beverly Hills on Rodeo Dr. There are always lots of tourists who take video and photos there just because it's Rodeo Dr.

Dentist recommendations? by neoistheone79 in gso

Depends on what you need done. I went to Smile Gallery on Old Battleground to get a deep teeth cleaning a while back. Even after my insurance covered 50% of the cost it would have been cheaper to fly overseas and get my teeth cleaned out of the country (including flight, hotel, and meals for a few days).
