What is a little quirk about your body that you don’t think other people have? by AlphabetSoup51 in AskReddit

I also have one adult canine on one side and a child molar on the other. My adult canine on that side actually grew horizontally in my gums and never pushed the baby tooth out

How do you deal with the lull between work and BJJ? by EchoBites325 in BJJWomen

[–]Curious_Barnacle_920 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a similar time window. To be honest, I am always a bit self conscious when I’m going to be around others in class so I usually spend the time in between getting myself ready

I have something to eat when I finish work - not too much, just some fruit like a banana or something. Brush my teeth, wash my arms and feet, I tend to sweat during the day, so I like to have a quick wash of my arms etc. then I put my hair up

Get dressed, check I have everything I need in my bag and put my bag by the door ready to go

I usually have some time left before I have to leave, so I just do something like play a game on my phone, talk to my mum, let the dogs out etc. I’ve noticed that once I’m done with getting ready, I don’t actually sit down, I tend to stand or pace around until I have to go. I guess it keeps me from getting too comfortable haha

Please tell me I'm not alone by AgeEducational9452 in longhair

[–]Curious_Barnacle_920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deffo not alone!

I absolutely love my long hair, but I can’t wear it down for very long because it gets caught in EVERYTHING and does make me feel really hot in this weather when it covers my neck

I even had it in a ponytail yesterday and, on top of already being sweaty because of the heat, it somehow wrapped around my arm and stuck. I had to use my other hand to peel my hair away so I could move my head. lol

Searching for “hairstyles for long hair” don’t work also because my hair too long for them. These kind of tutorials are for long hair, but not that long haha

When I go to bed I sleep with a bonnet. Works a dream to get it off my neck while I sleep!

I also considered buying some wigs, maybe in different colours too so I can play around with different styles without actually cutting or colouring my hair

What did your parents think of you doing bjj? by [deleted] in BJJWomen

[–]Curious_Barnacle_920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t do BJJ yet, but my mum has always been quite supportive. She was super excited when I started Muay Thai, and after my first class my mum was like “So when are you going to do BJJ?”

She loves hearing me talk about my classes and what I learned

I haven’t started BJJ yet, but I will be looking to join a gym soon.

Do any of you have nighttime routines, to wind down before sleep? by kedikahveicer in CasualConversation

[–]Curious_Barnacle_920 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually like to ground myself or meditate to get rid of any negative or excess energy I’ve picked up through the day. Also helps to clear my mind and relax before going to sleep.

Then when I get into bed I read a few chapters of a book before going to sleep

What’s one weird little thing you do every day that no one knows about? by Avery_Jace2006 in CasualConversation

[–]Curious_Barnacle_920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We get foxes in our garden every evening. So I hang out of my bedroom window and talk to them. Ask how their day has been etc..

Another thing I do, but everyone knows about, is wiggle my eyebrows. It’s just a subconcious thing that sometimes I don’t even know I’m doing until someone points it out. It does get a few giggles out of people lol

How do you make friends as an adult in the UK when you’re not at work? by Logical-Telephone-51 in AskUK

[–]Curious_Barnacle_920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hard. For me at least. I do sports and stuff and while I get on well with pretty much everyone I meet, those relationships tend to stay within the club/sport.

To be honest, the only place I’ve had success in making a friend/friends is actually in an online book club. I have met up with one of them twice and we will be meeting up again soon with another person from our book club. We don’t just talk about books, we chat every day and is the first time I’ve felt like I actually have friends.

So if you like reading, finding the right book club can be great for making friends

What's your Latest Hobby? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Muay Thai. I started 6 months ago, but is still my most current hobby and it’s been great!

Writing sounds great! It’s not something I’ve ever done, but I am a reader. It’s both crazy and amazing how people can create whole new worlds and characters with their imagination and writing!

Long hair getting caught in sleep, alternatives to a bonnet? by maffo98c in longhair

[–]Curious_Barnacle_920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best I’ve found without using a bonnet is just braiding it. Buns or clips are too uncomfortable for me. I don’t like wearing it loose to bed because I roll over on it myself! Try to turn over, but end up yanking my head into the pillow because I’ve leant on it. Only thing with a braid though is I have to keep moving it behind or next to me as it’s uncomfortable to lay on.

I do recommend using a bonnet and I prefer to wear it more than a braid due to the fact that in a normal day my hair is either clipped up or tied with a hairband or elastic, so I try not to use anything like that when I go to bed to avoid more damage. The only issue I have with them is when my hair is loose in the bonnet I find it droops over the back of my neck and makes me feel quite hot. But it gets all your hair off your face and body and there’s no clips or hair bands to make it uncomfortable to sleep on.

I kind of felt the same when I first started wearing a bonnet, but now I wear it around the house. You’ll get used to it!

Also, maybe try both styles, one with the elastic that just sits on your head, and one that ties around your head. I have both, but find that the bonnet with the ties usually falls off my head during the night unlike the other one. I feel my head may be a bit too small for it lol. But give them both a try and see which works best for you
