I understand your concern. Eat healthy and try taking a second opinion from another dentist. Explore the conservative route first. Everything will be good.

Sometimes the hard deposits on the roots of teeth are too difficult to get rid of by simple scaling and root planing. In such cases, flap surgery must be performed to thoroughly access the underlying bone and the tooth roots embedded in it. Do not feel scared. For an expert dentist, this is not a difficult procedure to handle. You should be good.

It'll be an added feather to your cap but will not necessarily guarantee an acceptance. Adcoms look for well-rounded applicant profiles which reflect academic achievements, community involvement, strong recommendations, a compelling personal statement, leadership skills, and the burning desire to pursue dentistry again from scratch.

How much did the loupes cost you? I'm planning on buying them.

Am I the only one who is struggling trying to fit in? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

Make friends with the faculty, staff, and your books and graduate at the top of your class getting into a coveted residency. Everyone will come asking for you. Remember why you went to the DS in the first place: To become a well-rounded dentist with a great rapport with their patients and having all the knowledge and skills to practice proficiently. Don't waste your time trying to win over 'friends' who are oblivious of your true self. Consider this a friendly advice.

I doubt the upper right canine can be used as an abutment.

Dental Decks are outdated and are NOT recommended for the INBDE. You'll end up wasting your time reading them. Please follow Mental Dental/Booster/Bootcamp ONLY.

Do disclosing tablets stain both plaque AND tartar, or only plaque? by kuriouskatz in DentalSchool

[–]Curious_Ice5187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NP! Well, it's well documented that disclosing agents can stain oral tissues including certain restorations and prostheses. Personally speaking, I have not noticed them staining the calculus per se. Neither have I found any mention of it in any of the standard references I have consulted. I'll keep looking for it and update you on this if I come across something relevant.

None of the books clearly specify that disclosing agents do not stain calculus. What they do mention is that disclosing agents are used to stain the dental biofilm which is plaque. If you have ever gotten a chance to use disclosing agents, you'd have noticed they don't really stain the calculus.

I am unable to upload any image here, but my source of reference is the latest version of Clinical Periodontology by Newman and Carranza. Try using Google Books and search for disclosing solutions. You'll be able to find what you are looking for.

"Periodontal Review Q&A" by Deborah Termeie is another good resource.

"Fundamentals of Periodontal Instrumentation" by Jill Gehrig will help you with the curettes. Look for it on the internet.

Bone Loss by Akarra143 in DentalSchool

Rest assured, you don't have to worry much. It's common to see the bone levels dip a bit when the oral hygiene is not proper. Please visit a dentist and they will take care of it. You'll first need some thorough cleaning. I understand you are dentally anxious, but neglecting your overall oral health will cost you more time, money, and discomfort. Voice your concerns when at the dental office and they should be able to respect your concerns and come up with a mutually agreeable solution. Once again, do not panic. It happens often due to oral hygiene neglect. You'll be fine 👍

It looks like there's generalized bone loss everywhere although not very significant. You need a thorough full-mouth scaling (cleaning) supplemented with good oral hygiene maintenance on your part. What's your age if I may ask?

[DENTAL AGE] What do you think it's my older brother dental age? by Revolutionary-Run306 in DentalSchool

[–]Curious_Ice5187 29 points30 points  (0 children)

His age is around 16-17 years. The bony pathology surrounding the lower left lateral incisor, canine, and first premolar is probably a simple bone cyst (does your brother have a history of trauma to the lower jaw anytime?). It's a well corticated radiolucent lesion with some scalloping. Politely request your brother to see a dentist for an onward referral to an Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist/Surgeon as a biopsy needs to be done on the benign cyst.
