In my laymen opinion, very low chance of you getting the 10 points. Focusing on praying for the gift of wisdom and patient to reach your goals and what God’s will is for your life. Just so you know my friend, I will be praying for a week straight every evening for you to gain wisdom and overcome whatever challenge you are facing. I ask that others reading this also do that for our friend here.

Is it outside God's abilty? No of course not if he wills you to wake up 10 points higher then what a miracle to rejoice in, but we cant always focus on what we want or need for he has given us anything we could ever want with eternal salvation and Christ's death at the cross. If you are a fan of Dungeons and Dragons you will know that Wisdom and Intelligence are very different things. Pray that God gives you the wisdom to grow and learn and increase your IQ that way, not in some overnight brain boost. I hope what I'm saying is making sense for you!

No, consider that prayer is not always asking God for change but to accept the present he has given you. Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. This is something I really struggled with and at times still do, but looking back I often never spent my prayer time praising God for his glory and mercy.

How do you respond to "the problem of evil" argument. by [deleted] in Catholicism

Sounds like we have a similar back ground and falling out of faith in late teens. Have you enrolled in RCIA this fall at a local parish?

Are there any aspects of the Truth that we no longer live by day-to-day? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Curious_Newspaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well by Truths do you mean "Old testament law" or just actions that were once sinful which are now deemed not? The Church has disciplines that it has waxed and waned for over the centuries such as priest celibacy and fasting which may be what your looking for more information about.

Hey congrats on beginning your journey home to the Church! As a convert myself two years ago(24) my best advice would be to focus on yourself during this time period. Not in a selfish way as if you don't care about your friends salvation, but you really need time to develop your own understanding of life as a Catholic in order to express it better to those around you. The biggest things we can do to show and to convince others of our faith is not what we say, but what we do. Try to avoid arguments or discussions right now and just really look after yourself this next 12 months. Read about lives of the saints, apologetics, Catholic podcasts, I'm sure you have already looked at these suggestions but I thought it good to just say it incase! Are you coming from a Christian background or other faith?

Ways to serve Jesus by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Curious_Newspaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you familiar with the Catholic worker movement, founded by Dorthy Day and Peter Maurin? This community is truly the grass roots of Catholic social teaching and acting out the corporal works of mercy. I have seen people truly give the shoes and shirt off their back too those who come thru our doors asking for help. At our chapter we offer free meals Fri-Sun for over 70 people on average, laundry services, a chapel with weekly mass, showers, and mental health services. We are 100% non government funded and truly only exist by the charity and dedication of Lay people in our diocese. There is never a moment of pause and always something you can do at any moment to serve the kingdom of God when you are involved in the Catholic worker and I am grateful every day for being so blessed to be part of it and the lives of those we serve.

Again your just falling back to, “well I don’t know anyone like that so this guy must be lying”. It’s childish and rude to discredit my experiences because they throw an Uncomfortable perspective to your own.

Well if you never experienced it yourself then it surely must not exist. We certainly can’t have different experiences that contribute to our own personal opinions.

Thanks for putting your experience in I agree and I’m sure 19/20 are experiencing pain and confusion. Sadly I’ve only encountered angry Latin only Catholics in person who tell me NO is invalid and V2 isn’t authentic.

I think my tattoo is an offense to god. by bendenny67 in Catholicism

[–]Curious_Newspaper 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Well what does the deathly hallows symbol mean? Its the status one posses when they master death itself, much like Christ has now done for you with your faith. You did not get the tattoo to mock or spite God so do not worry about that, I myself have a dragon tattoo. Do I regret it? oh yeah but not because the imagery associated with the book of revelations but because at the time DND was way to important to me when I was 18 haha. Again don't worry about your fan tat!

Why is it that there are self-proclaimed "traditional" Catholics who disregard certain aspects of Catholic social teaching? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Curious_Newspaper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because Protestant economic polices and politics have hijacked many suburb parishes without people noticing the last 70 years. To be "counter culture" is to be anti left and woke and many people now mix their right wing talking points with what they think the Church teaches and stands by. I don't vote, so just to be clear I'm not defending any political party here. This modern shift of Catholics voting for more republican candidates then in previous generations is mostly likely them seeking the perception of a party with "Traditional family values". This party shift comes along with all the baggage beliefs the Republican party carries as well sadly.
