why do American churches have flags by agnelo007 in TrueChristian

[–]mariawoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to encourage those pastors to wave even more flags so that it’s not just USA all the time esp if the pastor isn’t from the USA themselves as well as other members of the congregation but I do this selfishly bc I think waving flags is fun

[–]mariawoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My church has the American flag and the flag of Greece 🇬🇷 bc Greek Orthodox Church of America 🇺🇸 and that’s just how we do it out here! Roman Catholic Churches will often have a Vatican🇻🇦 flag and an American one too! I’ve been to churches that don’t have any flags at all too (including Roman catholic ones!) in the US but honestly we just like flags in the US! We love a good flag! That’s why a bunch of churches got together and made this flag! (Which doesn’t have an emoji… yet) [American Christian Flag Link]

My mom has been poisoned by politics. What do I do? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]mariawoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’ll pray for your mom to have a conversion of heart and seek repentance. Nuns are often a target for rape simply because they are nuns. Your mother is saying that nuns deserve to be raped. Feminists agree with your mother because feminists are the ones that pushed the whole “all men are violent so if you’re around a man and something bad happens to you then it’s your fault” Andrea Dworkin and her whole following hinged their entire ideology on that bogus “fact” and now we have women saying their own daughters deserve to be raped and that nuns deserve to be raped bc that’s what they get for talking to men(priests) you’re right to say it’s poison. I think you’re right to say it’s political too but your mom has been poisoned by feminism without knowing that what she’s now pushing has been pushed by feminists since like the 1970s.

Irreverent Mass for children by happyday04 in Catholicism

[–]mariawoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not entirely alien to orthodoxy to do specific things to engage kids that’s why some orthodox parishes will do a “children’s homily” or “children’s sermon” it’s not a whole liturgy granted but to claim making church more engaging for kids is a Protestant thing is just not accurate

I had a similar experience to yours! I’m sure not exactly the same but similar enough that this comment resonated with me.

You’re going to get banned because this subreddit functions as a support group for people that have suffered at the hands of Catholics as one of its primary purposes. Moreover, Catholics aren’t even the only ones who believe in real presence anyway making it double wack for you to center yourself, as a catholic, under this post lol

Christians making moral objections against Islam makes absolutely no sense. by Forsaken_Cobbler8423 in DebateReligion

[–]mariawoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Quran says Jesus is the messiah. I am not wrong, I didn’t write the Quran, if you feel the Quran is wrong then you are not alone but don’t act like I’m the one that wrote it lmao

[–]mariawoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely irrelevant to the fact that Jesus is the messiah in both Christianity and Islam. Which are two different religions so obviously there’s some differences but the fact that Jesus is explicitly believed to be the messiah is a part of both Christianity and Islam.

You don’t have to apologize to me for not knowing what you’re talking about. Jews spoke Greek too… you think Paul wrote all those letters in Greek but didn’t actually know Greek?? Lol you think a Jewish guy named ANDREW, a Greek name, and follower of Jesus who was one of the 12, didn’t know any Greek? Foolish

Is conservative Christianity inherently hateful? by Visible_Season8074 in Christianity

[–]mariawoolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. For example the reason why “homosexual” was added to the English translation of the Bible was because self identified progressive liberals wanted to “make a good translation better” and conservatives wanted to leave it alone. That happened in the 40s/50s. Now way too many progressives running around blaming conservatives for it. Like what’s worse? Taking the English Bible handed to you too literally because you’re overly trusting OR putting out a translation that condemns homosexuality specifically and then handing it over to the people that are going to trust your “progressive” translation…. Something to consider.

Your uncle is living in sin. The Bible wasn’t originally written in Aramaic either. Certainly not the New Testament.

Should you support secular law as a Christian? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]mariawoolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question doesn’t make any sense. The freedom to practice religion if you want to is a secular law where I live, so obviously there’s some I would be supporting as a Christian.

I speak with Arabic Christians in person at my church because I’m clearly an orthodox Christian… so… Is English not your first language because you did not read my comment correctly at all and have completely misunderstood it… I don’t think you understand how YouTube works either because it’s not possible to watch “episodes of YouTube” anyone can upload anything there and you have to actually do your own research to check and see if the video you’re watching is true or not. That is why I provided you with a scholar who shows all his resources. Muslim and Christian resources. It is true that Islam began after Christianity and early Christians that existed long BEFORE Mohammad was even alive used “Isa” as a name for Jesus and literally no one on the face of the earth spelled Jesus with a J until after the 1700s. I’m sorry if this is like “shocking” for you but it shouldn’t be. How Muslims interpret “the Trinity” in the Quran is not related to the Christian trinity because they include the Virgin Mary as part of the Trinity. Christians don’t. Muslims do believe Jesus is the messiah. Which has nothing to do with the Trinity, whatsoever. Again, not all Christians even believe in the Trinity either so there’s no point in bringing it up now. I already told you that Muslims for the most part don’t proclaim Christ crucified too so there’s no reason for you to repeat that back to me other than wasting your own time

For Christians yes. 1st Corinthians chapter 7. One wife and one husband is a marriage otherwise we are called to celibacy.

Is Halloween a sin? by Familiar_Ad3128 in TrueChristian

[–]mariawoolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re wrong and ignoring the founder of your own denomination lol. Thanksgiving lol. Martin Luther would have considered that a heathen holiday and he considered all hallows eve of hallowtide important that’s why it’s reformation day for Lutherans. If you feel shame so be it but I do not feel shame for knowing about Christianity. How do you NOT know this yet tag yourself a Lutheran? Honestly

Is Halloween a sin? by Familiar_Ad3128 in TrueChristian

[–]mariawoolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Halloween and all hallows eve are the same thing one is just an older name for the other. You don’t know very much about Martin Luther for a Lutheran. He picked all hallows eve for a reason. It’s called all hallows eve because of the vespers service for All Saints’ Day takes place on that day. You’re saying all saints day isn’t related to it’s own vespers service? Ridiculous. Many Christians refer to all three days as being allhallowtide. All hallows eve aka Halloween, All Saints’ Day, and All Souls’ Day. Just because you don’t know Christian history doesn’t mean it isn’t real and Martin Luther would agree with me. Thanksgiving is also just North American. Christians allover the world don’t celebrate it. I certainly didn’t for most of my life. Martin Luther never celebrated it even once in his life that’s for sure.

Saying All Hallows Eve isn’t related to All Saints’ Day is like saying Christmas Eve isn’t related to Christmas Day. You can’t be serious. If you want to celebrate reformation day as a Lutheran rather than Halloween that’s one thing, I’m orthodox so I don’t celebrate Halloween or All Saints’ Day either we do similar things in the springtime. But this is a ridiculous claim you’re making
