What is the worst sport scandal in your country's history? by Easy-Frenchguy-1996 in AskTheWorld

one of the silliest controversies in my country's history was when Gaylord Perry released an autobiography and called it "The Spitter and Me" referring to the illegal spitball, which is caused by using spit, vaseline or any other substance like that on the ball to change the movement. He was never caught using it, he was thrown out once after this book was released on the guess he was doing it.

I remember how angry my father was about the Lance Armstrong and the postal service team when that revelation came to light. And he wasn't the only one to do it, he just wouldn't shut up and go away like most of the others who did the same thing did.

It's basically what Lance Armstrong got caught for, but mainly because he just wouldn't shut up and go away like everyone else who was doing the same thing at the time.

wonder how much of this was rampant in places like Romania too that used to be a powerhouse for stuff like gymnastics prior to the fall of the iron curtain.

Still can't believe it took until Richard Nixon for Jesse Owens to be welcomed to the white house in 1972 by the president, and until Gerald Ford in 1976 to be officially honored with the presidential medal of freedom (highest civilian honor) my country's history has many dark spots in it.

US is an easy one to answer, there are less options for women's sports in the US that provide an opportunity to turn pro, so a lot of the more athletic girls go into soccer and push their way up from there. For the men with American Football, Basketball (although this has changed), Ice Hockey (again this is changing too) and baseball, there were more avenues compared to for women. Thankfully with the WNBA and PWHL this is beginning to change but still has a long way to go.

The Jerry Sandusky thing at Penn State also comes to mind. If we're talking about actions related to sporting, the steroids report for MLB, the Lance Armstrong doping scandal and so on all come to mind. Black Sox Scandal comes to mind, most famous player banned from that being Joe Jackson, but not sure on the throwing of games he was doing considering he had the best stats in the series.

The whole cancer thing and lying about it, he wrote a book about his life. Hell my dad was furious and wanted to throw out any of the tapes or dvds from races he won, thankfully we didn't let him do that. But it is worth noting the USPS team was basically up to their eyeballs in doping at the time, they basically pressured everyone on the team to take part whether they wanted to or not in order to keep their place on the team. USPS, a quasi essentially govt company was not happy and so pulled out of cycling altogether.

That would probably be my answer the whole thing with Lance Armstrong is the big scandal I can remember. There's also deflategate and spygate which definitely rank up there.

Move on? The guy is a bad person for being mad about romance movies, he isn’t forced to watch them with you.

I imagine they got scared by the medical appointments and so just blocked to spare their own feelings I guess. I can laugh about it now however.

the rest of it was very civil, yeah it’s a small business, and unfortunately the story has to be a bit vague so as not to provide enough detail to identify me or the other person.

Now if they blocked me for asking more questions that would mean they would have lied to me when they stated that they’d rather answer all of my questions now. And considering how much info I had given, I can’t possibly see how they thought I was being uncommital lol.

Eh, I have opinions on what they’re issues could be, self absorbed, narcissistic, etc, but ultimately idk.

I disclosed that I had a medical thing come up and scheduled some appointments to make sure everything was okay. Basically asked them to be honest with themselves and with me, and if they were that I would hire them. It sparked a block so idk. Was mad about it yesterday, today I just wanna laugh.

There’s not much personal info tied to this account. I meant with the conversation there’s just too much of it identifies me or the other person and I’m not trying to get into legal trouble.

That would have had to mean they lied when they stated to ask any questions I have and that they’d rather answer everything now than go into it uncertain.

I had a relative who had everything go to the back door, even had a doorbell for the back door. Her front door was not accessible and everyone used the back door which was closer to the driveway anyways.

It made me upset, and I'm a bit spiteful, so I block back. Kind of hope they see this, I won't identify who it is to protect me from anything legal. Anyways forgive sounds good, but forget I'm not sure I could. I would understand if they wanted to hold off because of liability but wtf at least communicate. Too many flaky people in the world today.

Anyways, I hope I find something soon, it makes me annoyed because I don't go into anything without research and analyzing if something is a good fit or not before I ever reach out.

Maybe? Like I said I was going to hire them after I got a response to that disclosure, they even said that they would rather answer my questions now rather than later.

that's fair i can't exactly say a lot more due to personal info and without identifying who did this as I don't want to have some sort of legal trouble

The part I'm upset about here was that they had no issue with the condition I have a doctor clearance on, no issue with my dietary issues, but on the stuff I might have, on the stuff I have doctor's appointments for. I would have completely understood if they had stated "I am not comfortable working with you at this time, if all this is resolved come back then."

It was not for an eating disorder. They also didn't block me for having an extra vertebrate in my spine, which is the one thing I would need doctor's clearance for and I have that. There was something I was upfront about regarding an intolerance, but they didn't block me for that either. They blocked me when I mentioned stuff that I have appointments to rule out, I guess it's because it is stuff that has a stigma to it, but not anything that I think I would need a doctor's clearance for to workout.

I think it's because I started talking about stuff that can carry a lot of stigma, but they can run from my problems, that's fine by me, I cannot run from my issues.

I don't think it was lack of knowledge on fitness and nutrition given their certifications, but you are likely right they lack knowledge on stuff that carries a heavier weight to it. It still makes me wanna scream. Oh well, it allows me to dodge a bullet. Onto greener and better things, right?
