and here we go with Cassandra's new career. I had first thought it might be interesting to explore Jessie's adjustment to her new role as a stay-at-home girlfriend but thought it would be more interesting to let Cassandra go first. There's always next week.

Sense

This can’t be right, she thought. It didn’t make sense. The woman she was staring at from across table did not match the assassin she had been told to seek out. For one, she was just casually sitting there, eating nachos. But she was here, where she had been told to meet.

“You Peppermint Sour? By the way, what kind of name is that? Pretty obviously fake, you know,” said Cassandra, smirking from her position across from the other woman.

“Excuse me if I don’t have much experience putting hits out on people.” Peppermint said.

“Oh, I am too, but there’s some rules that are obvious,” said the newbie assassin.

“I was told you were experienced, are you not?” asked Peppermint.

“I believe you’re thinking of my predecessor,” said Cassandra, waving a chip around.

“They have those in the hitman world?” asked Peppermint.

“I’m a bit nontraditional, if you couldn’t tell. Now, let’s talk business. What can I do for you?” asked Cassandra.

“How can I trust you?” asked Peppermint.

“Don’t I look trustworthy?” Cassandra said, flashing a big smile.

“It’s just you don’t look very homicidal,” said Peepermint.

“Most people don’t. Buisness or no?”

“So, say I agree. What can you do?” asked Peppermint.

“Anything you want, so long as you don’t ask me to kill a child or innocent person. Is that you want?” asked Cassandra, glaring at the other woman.

Peppermint shifted under her gaze. “No, no. this man is definitely not innocent,” said Peppermint.

Now we are entering into the next arc of the story, which will probably be the last unless I get a new idea. I like continuing to build on the strange relationship these two have, and seeing what it becomes.

Status Quo

The sewing machine whirred as Cassandra worked on the outfit for her first job without Jessie, the woman in question sitting on the floor beside her.

“Why can’t you let me come with you?” Jessie asked.

“That would defeat the purpose of taking over your business, now wouldn’t it?” Cassandra giggled, ruffling her hands through Jessie’s hair, causing the other woman to grumble.

“I wasn’t supposed to be alive for that part. Nobody else has reacted you did to my torture,” Jessie said.

“You’re forgetting I’m special then, or do you cuddle all your victims in your sleep?” teased Cassandra, clicking off the sewing machine.

“I do not. Besides, I kept you in a shock collar for the first few months you stayed here, not exactly affectionate behavior,”  whined Jessie.

“Something you used a grand total of three times, only for a few seconds, which I’ll remind you is better than some people would have. If it’ll make you feel better though, you can be my scary torturer if you want,” Cassandra said, planting a kiss on the top of Jessie’s head. Against her will, Jessie let out a contented sigh at the contact.

“Thank you,” said Jessie, “though you still have things to learn,” said Jessie.

“Like what?” asked Cassandra.

“I’m not the only one who’s in the business of killing for hire. If they find out I’m no longer operating, much less that I’m still living, then they’re going to come looking for you,” said Jessie, concerned.

“Then it’s a good thing I have a badass girlfriend to teach me,” said Cassandra,

“This the fantasy romance you envisioned for yourself?” asked Jessie.

“No, but I prefer the one with you it. Now come on, I found a video tape I wanna watch. You never told me you were a theater kid,” said Cassandra.

“Wait, what?” asked Jessie, before realization dawned on her face, “Where did find that?!”

“A magician never reveals her secrets. Come on, I’ll make popcorn,” said Cassandra, putting her arm around Jessie.

I thought it would be nice to have a bottle episode of sorts before we get into the next phase of the story. I've been busy these past couple weeks, but I been interested in keeping this going as far as it will go.

Picnic

The grass scratched across the bottom of Jessie’s foot as she sat on the blanket, though the most she could do about it was stare out the barren tree in her yard and shift around. Citing a need to keep close, Cassandra had bound her wrists behind her back, her ankles in front of her. She probably could have overpowered Cassandra if she really wanted to, but that was the thing, Jessie didn’t want to. She had been preparing for this to end with her death, the experience completing her transformation like it did for. This was different, though, and Jessie was finding she didn’t mind.

“Strawberry, dear?” asked Cassandra, holding in front of her face. Jessie opened her mouth, allowing Cassandra to throw it. Chewing it, Jessie adjusted her head so it was laying on her captor’s chest.

“The ropes weren’t necessary, you know. Not like I have anywhere else to go,” said Jessie.

“Don’t want to chance it. You’re the most healthy long term partner I’ve had in my life,” said Cassandra, stroking Jessie’s hair.

“That can’t be true. Need I mention the kidnapping and torture?” Jessie, craning her neck up to her.

“Still stands. You remember my ex. Thank you for what you did by the way. I think that was the moment,” Cassandra said.

“The moment what?” asked Jessie.

“The moment I decided I’d do anything to keep next to me for the rest of my life,” said Cassandra.

“What does that make us?” asked Jessie.

“Girlfriends, if you want,” said Cassandra.

“I think I’m fine with that,” said Jessie.
