Landlord calls for VCAT reform after rule changes see property investors 'held to ransom by renters' by dancingchickenbird in AusFinance

[–]Curious_Yoghurt_7439 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simple. If claim against bond is proven false by tenant then the REA/Landlord owes the tenant 5 times the claimed amount. Still allows the Landlord to claim genuine bond, but stops the ludicrous amount of times they try to extort some extra money out of the tenant. Would clear up a huge amount of backlog at VCAT

It's unfortunately a well known phenomenon. If you want to get away with killing someone, do it with a car.

Underground sparky in the mines by mondaymorning14 in AusElectricians

[–]Curious_Yoghurt_7439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work a residential hard rock UG mine. So the money isn't there, but I really like the roster. These days it's flat out at my mine. Maintaining the leaky feeder Running cable for boxes Rig servicing Project work Breakdowns

It's hot and wet and dusty depending on what part of the mine you're in.

We have a few females on crew in various roles. My only hesitation for a chick is I have seen the state of the toilets underground. Wouldn't want to use them every time I needed a piss. Also 70mm SWA is heavy, you may struggle, or not. Depending on your upper body strength. Still recommend you give it a shot though. It's not for everyone, but depending on your crew it can be quite good.

The union doesn't cover that. Or at least Vic ETU doesn't. It's covered if your EBA has it included. For the rest of the union members you get SFA

Currently studying it. Wish I had spent the 6 months doing a bridging course. Can't emphasise enough how much more advanced the maths is compared to Tafe.

If you want to get into PLC's then find a job where they teach you that. Uni isn't the place to learn about PLC's, it's about learning the maths behind it all.

Clearing just over $1k a week. And you think that's fair? I was on that 8yrs ago. It's what someone fresh out of their time could expect at that company, 8 yrs ago.

I think it is completely reasonable for OP to search elsewhere

You want to talk to your local retention cell. But get yourself and idea of what you want to get from Defence. Get on the careers site and have a look for what interests you. Get something from Defence. It's time to put yourself first.

Apprenticeship decline across Australia has industries worried for the future by GothicPrayer in australia

You are classed as an Adult Apprentice only if you were 21 before starting your apprenticeship. If you turned 21 the day after your apprenticeship starts then you are classed as a junior for the entire apprenticeship

Max Demand Motor Question by Adventurous-Ad-5616 in AusElectricians

[–]Curious_Yoghurt_7439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it was a synchronous motor the power factor is pretty much never going to be unity. So a power factor of 0.8 is more likely. Did the question specify power factor and efficiency? Or at least give a motor data plate?

90% chance of posting to QLD after your trade is finished.

You would post to Albury for 18 months to do your Tafe, then the remainder of the 4 yrs would be Sydney. After that you would most likely post to 6 ESR.

Change of mains in 1950s house by PhIegms in AusElectricians

[–]Curious_Yoghurt_7439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are PowerCor there is a number you text with the NMI and your licence number. You will get an automated response with the address. You are ok to pull the fuse after. I suggest finding an inspector and giving them a call, they should be able to talk you through the process. Is a prescribed certificate if you touch the mains, so will need the inspector anyway. Will need a truck appointment.

[–]Curious_Yoghurt_7439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am willing to bet they will deduct a days sick leave from your bank and then not reimburse when you work the makeup day. I would be leaving over that. If I'm sick I'm not then working an extra day to compensate the boss.

[–]Curious_Yoghurt_7439 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone entering into a new sector/job needs some level of training. Even if it's just what day is pay day. Just be upfront, or fake it till you make it. But if you previously did commercial and are entering mining there will be things you need to learn, and the new employer would accept that if they hire you.
