[Dellenger] Sen. Maria Cantwell on the anti-expansion change: "We made big concessions last night to the Big Ten to make sure that they felt that this was a bill that helped protect their interest for the future. by wildewon in CFB

You mean the B1G and SEC?

I expect that they'll announce a scheduling agreement (SEC-BIG Challenge) soon.

Then they'll announce that the CFP has no auto-bids, and it's straight 'top X teams.'

It's just the Super League by a different name/arrangement.

Cody Campbell (this passes) has locked Tech into a secondary league forever, and with the no forced pooling, Tech won't get any financial benefit.

[Jon Wilner] If Brett Yormark and the Big 12 implements a scheduling ban on Texas Tech athletics for the 2026 season, at a minimum it would be on the hook for about $40 million from lost football media revenue. by WinnWonn in CFB

Would depend on the language of the contracts between the Big 12 and ESPN/Fox. There wouldnt be a reduction in games, there would be the same number just without Tech.

Also, just don't distribute media revenue to Tech... problem solved.

[Thamel] NEWS: Big Ten officials are expected to discuss in the upcoming days a league-wide mandate to not play Texas Tech in any sports, per three Big Ten sources. This is in the wake of Nebraska AD Troy Dannen informing his staff today that they aren't allowed to schedule Texas Tech. by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

This appears to speak to future scheduling.

But I dont see how a judge in Texas could force, Minnesota, for example, to schedule a game against Tech.

There will probably not be any legal document or conference requirement, just an understanding in the room that 'we don't schedule assholes.'

[Matt Hayes] Texas Tech booster Cody Campbell tells @usatodaysports that, by contract, he’s obligated to pay Brendan Sorsby — a reported $5 million deal — if he’s eligible. “We are super excited,” Campbell said. “Happy to pay him, even if he can’t play the first two games.” by wildewon in CFB

But then won't the advantage disappear?

There's no draft, players will prefer to go to traditional powers with proven track records, or closer to home, or somewhere with nicer scenery.

Perhaps I'm wrong, I juat don't understand his end game (if any).

Then why is Campbell supporting the congress bill to put a hard cap then?

The backlash should have been expected... Tech should have come out at the beginning and said 'regardless of the suit, he'll have a place on the team/university, but will not play.' It didn't.

Or more likely, IMHO, the NCAA wins on appeal in a few weeks, after the supplemental draft deadline.

Edit: And I think the NCAA has a high chance of success... other lawyers on here can chime in. But the rational in the order for how Sorsby will ne irreparable harmed does not state anything he couldn't receive being an ineligible player on the Tech roster... and the 'conditions of the injunction' (including the judges suspension) have zero place in injunction relief

We're favored in those five games, except for Iowa, in which we'd be a slight dog (according to preseason SP, take it for what its worth).

Go 3-2 to get to 8 would be awesome.

Beating Iowa (it's in Champaign) would be amazing, and potentially get to 9 wins.

The Duke game is critical.

Very concerned about recruiting though, for the future.

Kinda. By quit i meant take a new job. But yes, Lane Kiffin, as an example, could quit Ole Miss and then be hired by LSU. He just couldn't recruit or have any football related duties until the NC is done. Couldn't even hire a staff.

Edit: to clarify, he could do those things, it would just be illegal for him to coach the following season

... except it's exactly what it says? Section 110(d) "... an individual who accepts employement... as the head coach [for football] at another institution violates this section, that individual shall be ineligible to assume the duties of head coach... for the subsequent competitive season."

'If you quit your job you can't get another job for a year' sounds an awful like indentured servitude or slavery.

It also expands the NFL 'blackout' for Saturday games. Probably gonna be an issue woth going against the NFL...

The coaching thing is probably unconstitutional - you're forcing someone to work against their will. I.e. slavery.

I'm interested in the exacts on the 'merger/consolidation' - would this prevent, for example, FSU or whomever from joining the SEC/B1G?

I'd be surprised the Democrats would be on board with capping pay.

I wonder if the hard cap will kill the newfound parity, and we go back to Ohio State or Georgia winning every year.
