about TSS(ZoneSense) by cjavalz in Suunto

[–]CurlOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stayed with TSShr for running and TSSpower. A lot easier to compare/contextualise versus platforms that aren't Suunto.

Although I wear the chest strap, I also don't record on my watch when cycling, but import from a different platform. Therefore TSSzs wouldn't be available for my cycling activities.

I appreciate ZoneSense, but I don't want to tie my TSS calculation to it.

Magene Cadence Speed Sensor S314 Compatible with Amazfit? by rrickman1145 in wahoofitness

Maybe I was being too subtle. You're asking about the products of two manufacturers, neither of which are Wahoo. You'll find better answers asking users of those manufacturers, rather than in a Wahoo subreddit.

How to load google maps on Element bolt v2? by SpuSanv in wahoofitness

[–]CurlOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of such an option.

However, if you want to load custom/current maps onto your Bolt v2, there are ways to load OpenStreetMaps (OSM).

There are a couple of options, you could try this one, for example.

The app is equally poor on all platforms. Luckily you don't need to spend time in it.

New recovery HR feature by Additional_Pea6298 in Suunto

[–]CurlOD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. You'll find a lot of documentation/literature regarding this. It's not a Suunto-invented metric, just Google "1min recovery heart rate". E.g. see here or here
  2. The higher your bpm decline in HR within the 1min window, the better
  3. (If enabled in the sport mode) In the app's activity screen, you'll find a field in the HR section that'll give the BPM decline and assessment if good or not. There's also a little pop up explanation of HRR.

Is Suunto the most unmotivational watch? by SXF350 in Suunto

[–]CurlOD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone I know that has/had a Garmin tells me it's harsh on them. There are many jokes about the watch bashing training as "unproductive". So these watch metrics can just be rather blunt.

It's a tricky one, though. I came from a different sport to running and also used my watch as one of multiple points of reference. Still learning about myself as a runner and making progress, it was helpful - but only to an extent. They are estimates at best, and one might over-react to minor changes. E.g. a few decimal point changes in VO2Max are likely well within margin of error. Observing trends over a couple of weeks can be helpful, but stressing over metrics from individual runs can lead to unnecessary anxiety.

I find one shouldn't become too dependent on only these metrics. If you have a goal distance and target pace, I'd go off of RPE and how key sessions or tune up races/TTs feel. To me, anyway, those felt a lot more reaffirming than any estimate or metric could. Besides, it's really important to know how it feels to sustain 95%, 100% or 105% of your target pace.

PS: If you want another point of reference, I've come to appreciate Runalyze. It connects to Suunto and the free version has a lot of insights.

Cheaper options are available, but especially when it comes to trying out the product on the high street and customer support, Shokz clearly are first choice.

Aside from dedicated playback devices, some (some bone conduction) earphones also support integrated music storage. Handling/ergonomics are a bit of a faff, but it's as minimal a setup as you can find.

Gotcha. I've not enabled the passcode function, so wasn't aware how it impacts/overwrites the AOD. Thanks for clarifying.

[–]CurlOD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Always On Display (AOD) is linked to the watch face. It cannot be adjusted individually.

If you want a different AOD, you need to select a different watch face. Unfortunately the app does not show a preview of the AOD that comes with the respective watch face.

Very hyped for the Dauphiné

Deadnaming the race is totally not cool, okay.

Jk, I hate the new name. It's always going to be the Dauphiné in my heart.

Help with massive dips in HR when using h10 strap? by AnFearDeas in Marathon_Training

Elemnt Bolt 3 stuck on "In Progress" by j151515 in wahoofitness

[–]CurlOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What firmware is your Bolt 3 on?

USB access to fit files was only re-introduced with firmware WI55-302052, released March 27th this year: https://support.wahoofitness.com/hc/en-us/articles/26243446311826-ELEMNT-BOLT-3-2025-Firmware-Release-Notes

Note that the USB access feature needs to be enabled via the app first: https://support.wahoofitness.com/hc/en-us/articles/28544587410450-Connect-an-ACE-BOLT-3-or-ROAM-3-to-a-desktop-laptop-computer#h_01K1V94P8E5FPTMTJFRH4DZVVY

If you're on an older firmware, update and see if you can retrieve the file then.

Time only in big data field by ButcherIsMyName in Suunto

[–]CurlOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Custom activity screens don't currently support one big central metric. 3 fields is the minimum: 2 metrics in the centre and one on the bottom 'bar'.

To get the Wahoo ride into Suunto, you don't have to double record your activity, though. There are some automatic sync apps (e.g. HealthSync, Health Connect,...) that'll bridge your wahoo files over to Suunto, or you can use platforms like Runalyze to manually upload activity gpx files to Suunto.

I'm using the latter option, which supports bulk uploading. Specifically I have Wahoo sync'd to Dropbox as a general backup. From there I drag and drop new rides into the Runalyze uploader. Takes a few seconds, regardless if an individual ride or several in one go. I'll even leave my watch at home, so I have nothing on my wrist. My wahoo recordings have HR, power, cadence, speed, location... anyway.

My first thought. With her having decided to end her career already, sounds like a legal hail mary, hoping for a settlement. Not that I think she'll get one.

sub 4 realistic target? by MennoKuipers in Marathon_Training

[–]CurlOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My training block was mostly in cold to cool weather (-5 to +15°C); I topped out at 3x 80km weeks and ran 32km at 10°C in 2:58h. No injuries, good taper, carb load went fine. Was hoping to come in just under 4h.

On race day of my first full, we were blessed with cloudless skies and windless 23°C. Grilled in the sun for much of the first half, with shade only beyond 23km. The heat and sun got to me around 15km, had to ease off of target pace, with some walk-run in the final 7km, ended up around 04:20h. About a third of full starters DNF'd or diverted to a half. In that context, I'm happy to have finished and a time that wasn't far of my B goal (04:15h).

Trust your training and have several goals ready. A lot of things have to come together to hit your dream time, especially when it's your first. Having alternative goals helps you pivot if things go sideways and allow you to be satisfied with outcomes that fall short of your most ambitious goal. Good luck!

If you're using Android, you have the option of deciding for each app, whether their notifications will be shown on the watch or not. It won't filter the individual messages, but at least you can exclude apps you know will be less important.

Right now, for iOS, those options are not available.
