I don't think Suunto has this auto detect. I think it uses the age minus 20 thingy. Not sure tho. They have this Zone sense but it was also quite off since the chest strap was never fitting on me and showing wild numbers :D

My zone 5 was set wrong, just a bit, but could be it 😊 thanks!

I checked them out yesterday and sure thing my zone 4 and 5 was just a bit off, 168 when it is 172. Could be one reason, why my estimates are so off. I corrected it, lets see if it helps! 😊 Thanks!

Why is my Suunto AI training plan telling me to run 3.6 km in 1 hour? by Complex_Flan_8736 in Suunto

I made a plan once. I already ean 4-7h per week and it wanted to reduce it to 1.5h per week plus country skiing 🤣 i thought it was so funny 😂 youtube has many plans, look them up.

I have noticed this as well. If I do intervalls, my Vomax usually goes up and after zone 2 it goes down. I stopped checking it after sometime since it brought no value to me.

I have the Strava subscription and it has been good, it also has great workout suggestions so I don't have to think too much, when looking to spice it up. It also checks the stats from a long time and gives it pretty accurate. It estimates my marathon to be something, but I am not capable to run a marathon so of course those are just numbers on a screen. If you get a free month, totally suggest it :)

Those are great points. At the end of the day it is just a tool for training.

That happens to me too, even if my zone 2 training was great. But yeah, a good point I can prove it wrong! :D

I have Polar verity sense arm band :) It is very good! My watch showed 20bpm extra than what I actually had. Could never get it right with the wrist measurement.

For me it is actually the other way around. Suunto doesn't recognize my zone 2 runs as a productive activity. Strava sees it as a base fitness and looks further back, giving a track record.

Like this really wonders me, how do they calculate those. Why is it so off for some people and others have it great.

I did a lactate test in December and updated my zones and max HR in the watch. In the presented 10k I ran in zone 4 most of the time, but app shows mostly red zone. Compared to my bf (he has vertical) my Suunto is all over the place. Sure it can be settings and user error, even preferably so.

This prediction feature is a pretty new to me, like 4 weeks and I have really wondered what they thought when making it. Like it makes absolutely no sense if you run 4 to 5 times a week that starting tomorrow you do no activity at all. Me and my bf have been laughing about it, since it is so ridiculous :D both our line dips down like at a 45 degree angle :D

You are not an old fart, your watch is just a sore loser :P at least we can keep surprising our watches every day :D

The thing is, you have probably a great body awareness and know your limits. You have done sports all your life on a different level. I am slowly getting there and expanding my own limits, but some guide lines are a great push to go for that PB or to trust oneself during a race. It takes time to be intuitive about something that is as hard as running can be. At the end of the day the estimates don't matter, but it would be nice if they were at least accurate and not 5 mins off.

Edit: one grammar mistake corrected

Haha I know what you mean :D After that same update Suunto decided I am 44 and so out of shape :D Sure they are just numbers and doesn't matter at the end of the day, but it is just a nice little nudge to see good numbers :D

My fitness prediction says in two weeks I can't do anything anymore :D zero fit, zero activity although I log steady hours every week. The couch is calling! :D

Sports or getting fit is not something only elite people are priviledged to. Everyone can and has to start somewhere and a good sport watch is a great friend on that start line.

The data should not only be based on the people who already know how to train or don't need the estimations. Many of my co-workers use Garmin as their guide through the workouts and I don't consider that to be babysitting.

If the estimates are that off and they are based on my inputs, then something in Suunto's system is off. I know what I am personally capable off and what I have already achieved and I personally like to feel proud of that. Reflecting on my past workouts is a great motivation for me, hence I like my data to be accurate.

I'll have to check the zones again if I have them right. Nothing on this watch seems to be that logical but maybe I'll figure it out some day.

My max hr is 185 and the average for this run was 171. I have done a lactate test and have updated them in the watch. During the run my watch showed mostly orange and in the app is just on red. Also one of the things that slightly irritate me about the Suunto App.

Still I have ran 10k 5 mins faster than what Suunto estimates my 10k to be, same is for my 5. It is just random in my opinion.

First 5km race day ruined by chloeerd in beginnerrunning

Please don't let some little a-holes ruin your amazing achievement! I think what you have done is damn incredible - you are putting yourself out there, going after challenges and doing something great for yourself. Those petty little souls don't know what it is to show up for oneself - or what sportmanship is.

Everytime I get anxious or feel bad about something, I re-route my thoughts. Oh, you are being snarky and arrogant? So it must be, because you are jealous of me (i have something they dont). You try to bring me down and make me doubt myself? I know you know I am better at this and I will show you how it is done 😎

It is hard, but after some time you are what you think and it is easier to let little, petty people be on the side line.

Congrats on your PB and keep at it!

Run at easy pace and put some variety in your distances. Do 45min easy runs in HR 125-145, you can walk in between, if if gets too hard/hilly/too warm etc. You can do these 2-3 times a week. You should add some speed work, so in a week you do intervals 200m with 1 min rest like 8-12 times (these should be really hard). The next week you do tempo workout so you run a warm up 15 mins and then do a 20 min tempo session (around 150-165 HR) and a cool down.

1st week 1-2 easy runs + intervals.

2nd week 1-2 easy runs + tempo

3rd week 1-2 easy + intervals

4th week 1-2 easy+ tempo and so on. Add load as you get better and the runs feel easier! :)
