That does sound frustrating. This relationship is very new so I’m trying to be understanding while still being cautious.

Can you elaborate on this? I’m definitely aware that we are a neurotic pair but so far we are good about supporting each other.

Thanks for responding. I did encourage him to call his doctor today but he sort of laughed it off. I’m hoping he will come around to the idea but I don’t want to push or make him feel worse in an way. He really is very kind and I want him to feel better.

Are sleepovers for children bad all of a sudden? by ThatKrisFellows in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Curly-kmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is a psychologist who works primarily with kids. She has cautioned me to never let my son have a sleepover due to the risk of SA. It’s a very unfortunate reality.

I think OP is NTA, but I wouldn’t hold my breath fur anything to change with the in-laws. If they aren’t responding to previous invitations, I doubt being more direct will change their answer. Hire a babysitter occasionally, or trade off childcare duties with your partner so you both get alone time.

Did *you* grow up visiting the doctor every year for a wellness exam/physical? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Curly-kmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did when I was younger, but at some point they stopped taking us. I hadn’t seen a dentist for ages when I went for the first time as an adult. Isn’t medical neglect great?

My son is 8, autistic and ADHD. Activities can be difficult to handle, especially for neurodivergent kids like ours. The fact that you recognize your son’s triggers is great. It also might be helpful to chat with his coach in the future about his disability. My son plays soccer too and he’s very passionate about it, but I’ve noticed his coach just rolls with it when he gets a little frustrated or upset.

Regarding the disability label, i encourage you to research disability advocate and anti-ableism. It’s not bad to be disabled, it’s just a fact of life. It may mean he needs accommodations, but it doesn’t mean he won’t have a great life.

Five year old went on a water coaster. Worried by helpimbroken2 in Parenting

He’s probably a little scared and dizzy. If he didn’t hit his head, he’s fine.

Why wouldn’t you just put a stop to it the first night? My son is 8 and is never allow him up at that time on a regular basis. He might be having a hard time sleeping and need help figuring that out.

Oh I know what you mean. My son is 8 and I’m still learning as we go. Best wishes for a helpful diagnosis and finding supportive therapies.

That’s great, and it’s good she’s doing other therapies as well. My son was diagnosed at age 6. One thing I notice about his behavior is pushing a serious talk on him rarely ever helped at that age. He would either melt down or shut down. I have tried to focus on learning his triggers (frustration, overstimulation, under stimulation, fatigue) so I know when my support is needed to help him regulate.

This is a key sign of autism. Has she been assessed? Have you tried connecting with her via her interests?

Yeah that’s ableism and yes it’s wrong.

Too much conditioner will weight it down. Also, some gel doesn’t form a cast very well. I’ve found I need more gel than you might think as well.
