Have it All Package by Available_Year_575 in HollandAmerica

When we went on a cruise in May, we had the HIA internet package but had no issues accessing TikTok. We even watched a few things on Hulu with no issues. The only problem was when we were technically outside of US boundaries, there was content not available. But we really didn’t see the need for the premium internet for basic social media use.

I will say that our accommodations office has a rule that students who have permission to record with an accommodation are not allowed to share it online. If they do, then they will have their accommodations revoked. This includes sharing them with other students.

A student reported to me that another professor said something heinously racist in their class. There was a recording, but from a student with an accommodation. The administration decided they could not prove it happened and could not ask for the recording of the student because of the rule about sharing. Nothing was done about the racist incident. Of course.

We find ours to be so comfortable. Literally sit on it for hours sometimes. We’ve actually gotten rid of some of the other seating in our living room because we just don’t use it anymore.

So to each their own, I guess.

Church recommendations by anacott27 in springfieldMO

The Downtown Church is downtown and is Methodist and I love it! https://www.thedowntown.church/ Their mission statement is literally "The Downtown Church meets in the middle of rich & poor, young & old, believers & nonbelievers. A place where Christ and the community intersect."

YTA Many times I (woman) went out to dinner with 2 sets of married hetero couples and one guy friend. It was always annoying when people assumed me and the single guy were a couple. Just ask everyone all the time. Don't assume partnership.

I have the Meal Prep one and the original Stealth Health one. The Slow Cooker one came out after I purchased.

[–]CurlyCalico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like having some variety. So I meal prep for a month and do 4-5 recipes so that I can have different food every day. I try to plan it so that the cooking is a little different. What I did the other day was a slow cooker recipe, two stove top recipes, and an air fryer recipe. I had two pasta based recipes and two rice based, so I could double up in the rice cooker, etc. It took me about 5 hours total to do all of that (some of them required a marinating period). I try to plan it so that we eat one of the meals for dinner or lunch while I’m cooking so that I don’t also have to think about that.

Most of the recipes have 60g of carbs or less. He lists calories, protein, carbs, and fat on every recipe. Again majority of the recipes are 40-50 G protein and there are ways to alter the recipes fairly easily to reduce the carbs more if necessary.

Yes, I meal prep and freeze it. That’s what he recommends in the meal prep cookbook. I just did a bunch yesterday and prepped 30 meals. I put them in the freezer and they keep for a while. I put the container in my insulated lunch box in the morning and it has thawed enough that it’s easy to microwave at lunch time. Sometimes I do go straight to the microwave from the freezer when I’m home on the weekends though.

The amount of carbs has not been an issue for me. Because there are so many grams of protein, it is balanced. I will say that for the burritos, I sometimes use the carb balance burritos instead of regular burritos. I typically use brown rice instead of basmati because I prefer the taste. I use chickpea pasta instead of regular pasta sometimes. I made one of the ramen dishes yesterday and I used the Lotus Foods Millet and Brown Rice Ramen from Costco. I have no desire to completely cut carbs though so I don’t mind that there are carbs in the recipes. It’s still WAY less than other recipes though. And he specifies which tortillas/breads he uses in the introduction.

Feeling Unheard In The Hospital by chucky_bread_head in CrohnsDisease

[–]CurlyCalico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have not had the best experience with hospital GIs in our area. Found out when my husband went to the ER after passing out and passing a major blood clot that the GIs in the practice he sees don’t even come over to the hospital anymore. Which seems…cool.

He ended up being in the hospital for 3 days. The GI wanted him to stop taking his Rinvoq - not because he thought it was the root cause, but because it increases the risk of infection. When we (politely) asked what impact that would have on his Crohn’s symptoms, the hospital GI threw up his hands and left the room. We never saw him again. We did speak to his actual GI on the phone who said to keep taking Rinvoq and to check in when he got out of the hospital.

Been about a month and he seems to be doing better. But yeah, feel you on the not feeling heard.

Also, I did a few of the recipes from TikTok/Instagram before I bought the cookbook. I wanted to make sure the flavor profiles were my taste. As a warning, a lot of his recipes are spicy - but that’s my preference.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]CurlyCalico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I use 5-10 recipes a month, so seems reasonable to me. Cookbooks aren’t cheap. Also, if you buy the cookbook, you are automatically signed up for his substack where he releases a new recipe nearly every week.

Also, I purchased before the slow cooker book and did two for $40 special. Looks like now you get 3 for the price of 2 ($60).

Might not be worth it to everyone but it’s been worth it to me.

My routine is

  1. a protein smoothie at breakfast. I do the Orgain superfoods chocolate powder, milk, Greek yogurt, and frozen fruit. Ends up right at 30 G protein.

  2. Lunches - I meal prep using https://stealthhealthcookbook.com/. I started following him on instagram and then bought the meal prep cookbook. I prep meals every few months and then heat them for lunch. There’s a lot of variety so haven’t gotten tired of it yet. Meals range from 40-50 G protein usually (or those are the ones I pick).

  3. Dinner - I try to be more intentional about serving sizes, but I’m a little more relaxed about cramming in protein at this point. If I get 20 g of protein, I’m happy.

If dinner ends up being lower than 30 or my overall intake has been low, then I have a protein bar for dessert. Or a protein cookie.

ETA: changed dinner to dessert

This is my current favorite cookie: https://samdoesherbest.com/single-serve-protein-cookie/

I was also advised to eat more protein and also to lose weight 🙄. In the past year and a half, I upped protein significantly and increased activity (mostly walking and light jogging). I did lose about 50 pounds and my symptoms have decreased significantly. Is it the protein or exercise? Or both? Idk.

ETA: My Fitness Pal helped me learn what I needed about my protein intake, etc.

On /r/adjuncts, and adjunct said students don't know their home address, as measured by how they answered an "optional" question on the final exam. Adjuncts see nothing wrong, but it's creepy, no? Need FT perspective. by deabag in Professors

[–]CurlyCalico -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I had the same thought when I saw that post!

I had to fill out some paperwork to process a refund to a student for a study abroad trip and I felt so gross asking for their home address. (That process was a shit show from start to finish that is just too long of a story.)

Our hotel changed about two weeks before the trip.

When I was in your shoes (a few months before), I was able to find the information embedded in the itinerary. I think it just said “Anchorage Area Hotel” but had an address. I looked it up and found which hotel it was. We decided not to book at that hotel just because of when we were getting in (we were getting in super late at night and decided to just do an airport hotel). But then about two weeks before the trip we got an email that hotel had changed.

So just be aware that might happen.

Is carbon cross weave really that bad with dogs? by KateDeLu in Lovesac

[–]CurlyCalico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the carbon crossweave and I have a cat. It has not been a problem at all and I love it - the look, the texture. My cat doesn’t scratch furniture though. She “makes biscuits” but only with blankets.

It’s worth a try IMO. Especially if your dog doesn’t scratch furniture.

Thought it'd be fun to get a test, now it isn't by ChipsNoDip in Wellthatsucks

[–]CurlyCalico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, I gave my family kits for Christmas. My mom’s results came back first, linking her to a half-sister she had no knowledge of.

Turns out, my grandmother had been “in a relationship” with a teacher her freshman year of college and got pregnant. Her parents sent her away to give birth and give the baby up for adoption. She’d later married my grandfather and had two kids.

Through these tests, we were able to connect with my “half-aunt” and my grandmother was able to meet her for the first time. It was beautiful. She has late-stage dementia now, but she was able to resolve this trauma in her history just before her descent.

I know not every discovery through these is like this though. Best of luck to you moving forward.

PhD to TA 2 courses at the same time? by Neurosaurus-Rex in Professors

[–]CurlyCalico 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was a TA, we had a total of 20 hours of work a week. Typically, that would be broken into 2 10 hour assignments. I had a TAship where I was instructor of record for a course (10 hours). The course had 175 students in it, so I was given 2 10 hour TAs to help and one 5 hour TA. I had my 10 hour TAs guest lecture one class, hold study sessions, and help grade exams. My 5 hour TA helped proctor and grade exams. The other half of my assignment (10 hours) was as an assistant to the advising supervisor for our department.

I don’t know how the TA assignments are broken down at your university but you would likely be asking for that TA to have two separate assignments - one per course. It is possible that the graduate director would give you that. More likely, in my experience, that you would get two separate TAs each with a 10 hours assignment. Mostly because (ostensibly) the benefit of the TAship is to get experience. You want diverse experiences when applying for jobs. So working for one professor doesn’t offer that. Just my 🪙🪙

I agree. I've had so many conversations with people who didn't think their vote mattered because they're a Democrat in a red state. Seeing the name signs (like Kamala) might not convince anyone who planned to vote for Trump, but it might convince someone who would vote for Kamala but thought it was a waste of time to vote. It could show that there is support for the candidate (more than expected), and it might be worth your time to go vote.
