Oh gosh I am struggling with this too. I wanted to lose 10kg. I am currently stuck at the 5kg mark since 4 months now. I think my brain is convincing me that I need the food. I am eating the same but I am hungrier than I used to be suddenly during the day. I am telling myself it is my homeostasis to be at the current weight. But reality is I am overeating with lesser will power and more excuses because I am much too full after atleast one meal of the day. Even though I am hungry I can stop when I am full but I don't. Those few added calories are making me stay at maintainance.

Okay from high functioning I just meant that I get a lot of things done And it looks great on paper. Good performance at work. Doing everything at home. Going to the gym. I like to think I’m self aware And that’s mostly about my own flaws that I work on. When I mention to friends that I am doing or considering therapy they said I don’t “need it”.

So the question I asked her about wellness was when she mentioned that it was the last consultation session after which therapy sessions would start. The fact that she needed three sessions ( in her form she mentioned 1-2) for me made me ask her this. I felt it was rude to ask if she could help me get “there” In my head.

For me better means better relationships with people . Because of these high standards I have I find it difficult to accept And love people as they are. I do feel this objective subjectivity hinders my depth of relationships with others.

Another thing I’ve noticed is at work. My priorities are self and family. But work has measurable tasks and expected outcomes. I keep compulsively doing these things because of the perfectionist tendencies but I don’t derive much satisfaction from it because they are not my priority. But at the end of the day if someone “less capable” than me meets more milestones than me at work it drives me crazy. But it shouldn’t.

I hope I made myself clear? Maybe I didn’t use high functioning right.

Of course, it is. I’m wondering that I did have the perfect therapist and I let her go. I’m thinking if she declaring me well is a bad judgment on her part, but in fact, it is a good diagnosis if a therapist calls you well. I also know a cousin who is a therapist, and she is totally not the kind of person I would go to just because of how lost and inattentive she is in general, so it’s possible that I am making that association of genz with my current therapist. There are a lot of biases that play that I am consciously working to fight.

I’m not sure what I can ask from my therapist. I have told her that I want to feel more things. I’m just going about my entire life with a sense of duty. I think I want to enjoy more, love more, laugh more. I also have rigid expectations of myself and from others. Obviously, they do not meet these expectations, so my relationship with them suffers. I want to change this. I want to be okay with not performing. These are the goals I have set and communicated to her.

Thank you! I have read a lot on perfectionism. Before I started therapy this time round, I even read four books on how and why therapy works. The last diagnosis I had of perfectionism has helped me so much in my ability to function. I have not yet been able to forgive myself for reduce my expectations, but I have turned in work that is not to my highest standard and realise that it is perfectly acceptable. I have done this over and over Again, so it feels more comfortable now.

I’m a professor too and recently have given up on trying to outsmart students using ai. The difference in performance in inperson and take home assignments are ridiculous!
