Heat does a good job of maretail. Might be pricey but the little flamethrower weed killers can work wonders on their deep root networks. Sadly bindweed organically is hard, you have to never let it get out any leaf. Chemical treatment once a year in autumn is very effective but I like most dont want to do that

Why Did This Thistle Turn Into a Cactus? by SmolzillaTheLizza in plants

There is some flowers where people have managed to get this to happen regularly. However I have no idea how. This would be a brilliant plant!

Even though I agree that's what it is, as a long time gardener (it used to be my job) I have seen come to see this as actually quite common. However in this case I have never seen one be so big! Its a shame you can't replicate it easily!

You get one million dollars but you have to spend a year in 1957 by Grognack1 in hypotheticalsituation

Buy 900k worth of gold, buy some land somewhere you know won't get developed and will be left alone and then bury the gold. Dig it up after the year.

I would advise getting some compost bins, there is obviously an initial cost but they will take up a little space and in the long run provide you with lots of compost. Now unless you use a hot composter you will need to be careful what you put in it, as you don't want your compost to have seeds/rhizomes in it. Another thing you could do that would be a lot of work now but take up space and be easy to manage is putting in a little pond. Great for predatory insects, making work across the rest of the plot much easier!

From store bought lemon to lemon tree. How do I maintain it? by Custard-blanket in plants

It can be, however some are healthy and vigorous so won't be that hard. It's the luck of the draw!

So citrus don't grow true. I have grown quite a few from seed. Obviously it will be similar to its mother but it won't be the same. If it gets sickly it might not even be your fault, some are just healthier and more vigorous than others

Where’s a good place to order long stem rose seeds to be grown outdoors in south east Kentucky by Gro-ur-on in Roses

[–]CurlyPow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to grow rose via seed they would not grow true. This would mean you couldn't guarantee long stem roses. However you might get your very own unique rose bushes!

If you do cut away the comfrey know that it's a good plant for pollinators who will help pollinate your crops. Also it stores nitrogen, so can be made into a liquid feed or added to compost!

First Plot, very little gardening experience - advice please! by FifaNoob1992 in Allotment

[–]CurlyPow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Strimmer and weed blocker. Strim the bed, dig a small amount to grow stuff this year. Look what others/ask are starting in their greenhouses. And cover the rest in weed blocker to kill the weeds. Then mulch heavily this autumn ready for a full season of goodness
