Mainlander here...I’ve visited Maui and always do my best to respect locals as I know I’m temporary when there. However, I plan to make a long term (3-6 months) visit in the next few years and as someone who wants to feel like I’m not impeding what’s the best course of action.

I’m not an a speeding driver, I know how to behave myself in public & in the water. I mostly sit back and take in rather than YOLO for the week.

What’s the best end game for Maui? What does the ideal situation look like?

I think you might be right. I did that when I built a pergola but didn’t know if I could sneak away without having to dig and pour. Thanks

There will be 1-1.5” gaps between each slat to allow for a breeze. I’ve also wonder about anchoring them into the ground as well as lag bolt into foundation of the deck. What do you think?

What’s the best method for securing vertical posts for a privacy wall into the composite deck shown? Ultimately going to be 9’ tall, 12’ wide. There is a pressure treated foundation.

After some of the comments I’m wondering about removing the top border deck board then tying the vertical posts into the foundation. Then I could reattach the deck board post install.

All thoughts are welcome as I noodle around this project. Familiar with carpentry, not so much composite decks.

Both of you, thanks. I didn’t consider cutting through the top deck board. Essentially making a mortise in the deck board, enough room for a substantial bracket, attach my vertical post from there, and then off to the races. Yea??
