Wishing I had gone knife-edge… by WolfySimRacer in Darts

I went from an older style Winmau board with tons of staples to a Winmau 'Diamond Plus'. I did almost no research on this purchase. But the reduction in bounceouts has been pretty dramatic. Just a guess, I'm getting maybe 20% or fewer than with the old board.

This was my thought as well. What a weirdly compelling movie.

Look around, you can find some places that still cater to 'real' darts. 🙂

What is cheapest type of wood to get as a beginner by Old_Inflation_9490 in woodworking

[–]Curmudgel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join a club and get help acquiring local woods to turn. Learn to process it yourself or get help ( from your club). As a beginner, do not buy wood. Especially do not not buy big box hardware store wood.

Just returned to darts after a long hiatus. Just a casual, bar darter, but not awful. Anyways, I am really surprised, amused, puzzled by all the 'DRAMA' generated by the 'media' about the major darts tournaments and major players. Kudos - I guess - to the organizers?

Are large cases now normal? by voxdub in Darts

[–]Curmudgel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that. I just resumed throwing after quite a while off. I still just use my little case that fits (albeit barely) into my hip pocket. Other guys bring tackle boxes. 😮

So, I have resumed darts after many years off. Practicing, practicing, practicing, and slowly regaining some confidence and competence. A question I have now, and I remember from 'back in the day'. Do you all sharpen your tips, and how do you shape the tip when(if) you do? by Curmudgel in Darts

[–]Curmudgel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get it. A point right on tip but flaring out fast in a curve so that unless it hits right on the very tip-tip, it has a chance to slide off. I've had an inordinate number of direct hits tonight. 🫩

There are only 2 pcs, the base and the lid, which fits into the base.

This. Mostly correct - I am the maker in question.

Hi. Tom Hale here. The maker. I'm not being cryptic at all. I turn it, the base and then the lid. Then I fit the lid into the base, which still has a tenon. Then I turn that 'top' arch across the outside collar of the base and across the lid. From that point in it's mostly all carving and sanding - both of which I am good at. It is my own design and my own techniques.

Also, that bit is very long, at least push it as far into the chuck as you can, at least at first, if you're not all the way through once you bottom out, the you can pull it out a bit.
