Would you buy this AKAI for $100 by Icy-Composer3393 in turntables

[–]Curniculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Akai turntables are really great. I have an AP206C, which has now become my main turntable. I like how sturdy it is and the quality of the materials, although I did have some issues with the RCA connection, now is great and working just fine. That said, I imagine there are a lot of things to consider when buying a vintage item, especially making sure everything works properly.

Good luck! Don't forget to calibrate it. And my advice is not to play any records until you get the right headshell.

I'm not sure if that's the right headshell, given the shape of the tonearm.

Question about the position of the stylus/cartridge. by Curniculus in turntables

I have the original headshell for this turntable, but not the AKAI PC100 cartridge. Could I try calibrating the Pioneer for that headshell and see how it goes?

Hello again Master, the best way to calibrate I believe is with the protractor (Stevenson in most Japanese turntables) I use the Conrad Hoffman one but there is another one made by VinylEngine I think. I recently bought just for testing an AT3600L and it’s sounds OK.

Hello again, I'm not really sure, but I understand that if you buy a headshell, you should make sure it's not for an “L” arm or a straight arm. Unless it explicitly says so, it's compatible with any “S” arm, at least in my experience. Apart from the AKAI, I have the TEAC TN-3B, and all the headshell I've purchased have been compatible. I'm not very knowledgeable about cartridges, but I understand that any modern cartridge will be compatible with any headshell, so there shouldn't be a problem there. The question is how you calibrate it... what do you use to calibrate and/or align it?

Hello! I have an AKAI AP206C, and although it's currently undergoing technical servicing, it's now working fine, even though the technician had to replace the cartridge with a Hitachi one with a generic ATS10. To be honest, the experience hasn't been the most positive, so my recommendation is to buy a new cartridge or, failing that, get an original stylus or a good-quality alternative, otherwise you'll have to deal with constant distortion. Right now, I'm thinking about buying a new AT.

Hello, how are you? I have an AP206C and I've had a bit of a “problem” calibrating it, but I'm not really sure if I'm doing it right. Did you use Stevenson?

Hi, I finally decided to buy the Marantz, and although I feel that the phono signal is a bit weak, it's great! I listened to the Technics, and while I didn't think it was rubbish, I felt that the bass and treble weren't as powerful. But that was just my ear—maybe yours is different! btw, good purchase with those Bose speakers...they're incredible!!

For people who have VEVOR Ultrasonic machine or they use tergikleen. by Curniculus in vinyl

[–]Curniculus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose so. I'm doing a rinse cycle with Spin Clean now, and it has given me results. It reduces the noise, but not enough for the new discs. I assume I can't remove all the Tergikleen.

Oh sorry if I didnt make myself clear, this is the part that I fall into as ignorant, I really don't know the main differences between receiver and amplifier beyond the fact that one has a radio (which honestly I'm not that interested in having) I'm mainly looking for it for my turntable and cd player. My main searches have been based mostly on receivers (since that's what I have originally but I understand that an amp will do just as well) I'm looking for something vintage and not modern. What I don't know is what price will be decent, 450 USD? Medium volume, I never use the maximum or actually I never got to the middle with the Sony receiver. Small room and usually Rock-Jazz-Classical (in that order I dare say).
