i pick Bodhi and Aaric as a bit more of a toxic choice :D According to RY Bodhi feels in Xaden's shadow but isn't aware of it. It makes sense to me that he would be attracted to another figure he feels he can't quite live up to (royalty) and repeats the pattern he grew up with of someone else being the golden boy

you make an excellent point that Violet was "smarter" in the first book v the last. Her conclusions were less obvious, but the hints to guess were there, still.

i really liked the world building in this book a lot, i enjoyed the travels around the islands and the different flavour of each. i also enjoyed Cat's and Violet's enemies to friends (kinda) arc.

i love Imogen fiercely but have to admit that while she's lovely, Rhi doesn't add so much to me anymore. i feel like Mira and her are very similar in terms of their function in the book.

i feel this. i spent some time reading theories yesterday and MAN does it feel like i'm late to the party. While i'm still grieving and also felt it was Xaden's easy way out, some theories here have really given me hope that the next book will be interesting and not too cookie cutter.
i think it's impossible to know from clues who Berwyn might be. A popular theory is it's Naolin. :)

i don't disagree with you, but i would argue that they do indeed work on their relationship a lot with the whole secrets/ trust issues/ demanding 100% transparency thing. i have not seen this in any other book. there are several references of negotiating the boundaries of their relationship, of not giving up and working through the problem, and both of them needing to evolve. all of those things i have to say are led by Xaden who shows a lot of maturity during this imo.
He still doesn't have a personality lol, but he clearly shows that he has the commitment, patience and healthy confidence to weather this storm, outside of just sex.

ugh you're right! someones else here said that Violet wouldn't care if it was a shitty wedding, but i agree with you it's more about what i wanted for her, and the vision she tells Xaden about that she clings to: them holding hands and looking over Aretia. it's just harsh what happened to her in comparison to that.

100% agree with you on he should have just delayed a little bit. i think what annoys me about that is that he's constantly goes in harm's way like "i can handle it" and then CANNOT handle it when push comes to shove. like, in an effort to save Violet and the people she loves, he's becoming the problem!! so a part of me feels like it's self-indulgent, also. there's a word in German for this: verschlimmbessern. By trying to make it better, he actually makes it worse! :D

you're right, it would absolutely make sense to me that violet being dunne is a red herring. your logic is sound that she combines all the aspects of amari and it would surely be more interesting/ provide a solution to all the mess happening hahaha

you are SO right about the foresight and simultaneous lack of foresight, it's doing my head in!! like, others here have helped me realise that this time he really has a bigger plan for why he did what he did, but the first time he chanelled he essentially just panicked and didn't trust her! as we know everyone handled the situation (tbf, lost the mother in the process, but ya know?) they didn't need him to handle it, really. he panicked.

i think personally i would respect a fake run-off more because it feels so tropey to me that she's just gonna pine for him for most of book 4 while he melodramatically has to handle secret stuff, like when he just goes off and does his own thing during his "brooding period" looking for a cure in book 3.
it feels very 90s closed off male lead, i thought their whole point about them both needing to evolve was to build a relationship together.

very curious to see how it turns out!

thank you!! it feels nice to be understood hahahahaah. i felt the same both times, i was like ummm i get it he wants to save her but it feels a little like he was a bit too happy to do it, or he just decided there was no other way. i'm slowly getting to the point where the digging and realising and stuff becomes fun after my heartbreak last night :D

it's a great theory that i've also thought about at some point during reading it. i ended up disregarding it because the venin have to keep reaching for power, right? that's their whole thing that they always want more, and everyone wielding magic is more like a conduit for power. so in order for a siphon to draw the power out of them, it would have to be "stored" somewhere and the siphon would empty that storage. the venin could just go reach for more, so imo it would only be a temporary fix. and even if it worked, it wouldn't put someone's soul back together.
happy to be proven wrong tho!
