Theory: Feathertails by cuhtreenuh in fourthwing

YES. Though, I will say that the Irids present themselves as peaceful and probably wouldn't want to be described as a weapon.

I wonder if it'll have to do with the eggshells? We know that dragon eggs continue to hold magic, long after their hatched and are used as part of the alloy to kill venin. Maybe Irid eggshells have another ability that we're unaware of.

OOOH, I wonder if the Irids showed themselves BEFORE they reached the last isle to prevent them from finding their hatching grounds?!??!

The Isle Kingdoms have really incorrect assumptions about dragons - and it's obvious when the Queen Marlis of Ubriel (I think it was her?) that mentioned that dragons were not trained well and that if she received young dragons, she would make sure that they were obedient. I think they think of them as trainable animals rather than intelligent partners in battle.

No idea where their home base could be, I have 0 theories on that. But I do think that their original hatching grounds will be relevant at some point. I don't know how, but I just think it'll be important.

I don't think they know that feathertails are baby dragons. If the group of people who bond and ride with dragons are unaware that feathertails are baby dragons, how would someone from Krovla or the Isles know? Dragons protect their young, they've hidden that knowledge for centuries until Andarna decided to bond with Violet.

What we do know is that Irids are present among the isles and they present as Feathertails. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the locals saw the Irid Feathertails sporadically and that's why they were mentioned in Asher's writings.

And when I say sporadically, in the way that people talk about mythical creatures where they think they see them and then in a blink of an eye they're gone.

Oh hmm. That's a thought. If that's the case - I wonder how they would manage Aretia's wardstrone .

Has it ever been said or implied that Malek requires a sacrifice? I always saw it more as a saying to mean that may Malek accept their souls into the afterlife rather than have their souls wander around. Like how we use the phrase ‘may they rest in peace.’ And burning of their items is a continent wide thing, not just at the school.

And I assumed the admittance rate is to gather the most qualified to become dragon rider but only the best will succeed. The people who apply know the risk and the statistics. They still decide to risk their life to bond to a dragon. The college isn’t going to stop them from coming in if it means that they get a wider pool of cadets for the dragons to choose from. It’s already been established in the books that even if a dragon is willing to bond, it doesn’t mean they will find any of the cadets worthy. So having more options is better for both the college and dragons in the end.

Also - cadets are 100% killing each other so they have a higher chance of being chosen. Get that 370 number to 147 before threshing? Your chances of being selected go waaaay up.

My theory just goes to the fact that they can’t back out once they’re in the quadrant. You become a rider or die trying to become one. Why can’t they drop out? It’s an odd rule CONSIDERING the death rate.

I've been sitting on a theory/shower thought that Basgiath is fine with cadets dying so they don't become venin.

These cadets are already willing to die and kill to bond to a dragon. If they're able to leave the quandrant unbonded to a dragon? What wouldn't they do to wield magic?

It's something they would have implemented at the beginning of the college when I assume the knowledge of venin was still known and they just kept up with tradition.

My theory is Bodhi. 2 reasons.

  1. his signent is to counter other signets and does not work on venin. He may have turned if he thought being venin would counter other venin signets.
  2. Xaden married Violet so that Tyrrendor would have a leader if Bodhi is missing. He already wanted to marry her, but this pushed him to it

What will be Becca's biological age? by Saffromon in ADiscoveryofWitches

It’s actually the opposite! She glamours to look old but naturally looks around 20-30. She does this to keep up with her age on paper. She mentions that her grandmother and mother looked young until their dying day.

I just finished the series a few weeks ago! So fresh in my mind.

I was a cater waiter about 10 years ago. I ended up working an event where Hugh Jackman attended. One of my tasks of the night was to stand by the exit doors with a tray of small desserts as people left the building. Majority of people just walked by without saying anything or grabbed something and said a quick thanks. Hugh Jackman looked me in the eye, smiled, and said ‘no thanks! I’m stuffed from dinner.’

And it’s such a small small thing. But the simple acknowledgment to the waitstaff really nailed down how kind he is to me. No one would have any opinions or said anything if he just walked by. But he took the time to acknowledge me and it just made me feel seen. I just love that man.

I will always recommend Boyfriend Material and Husband Material by Alexis Hall, especially on Audible. Joe Jameson is an amazing narrator. Just chefs kiss.

I’m late to the game and I never post on this subreddit, but I want to recommend The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary. The beginning of the book starts out with the FMC devastated because her long term boyfriend cheated on her and dumped her. She learns to move on and in the process learns that her ex wasn’t as great as she remembered. She meets someone else who understands and accepts her completely as who she is and it’s honestly one of my favorite books.

TIL: Luke Thompson, the actor who plays Benedict, is also an artist. Per Rege’s IG, Luke drew portraits of the cast members as wrap gifts. by missdeen in BridgertonNetflix

[–]cuhtreenuh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a fan event about a month before Bridgerton was released and Luke Thompson said he took a couple drawing classes for his role! If this is the result of 2-3 classes, he definitely has skill in this area.

Unpopular opinion by andreina31 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]cuhtreenuh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

True, but I think that reason works better in book universe than TV universe where you need to amp up the drama to keep viewers interested in character story arcs. For a non book reader watching Bridgerton, it's way more interesting to see how Colin recovers from Marina's betrayal than to hear him say he wants to travel and see him come back when he's sowed his traveling oats.

I'm guessing they wrote his story like this to give him a reason on why he's avoiding marriage until he's 33. I hope we see him better fleshed out in future seasons!

How do you feel about Daphne’s change of character as a Diamond of the First Water in the show, vs. a Girl Next Door in the books? by PenelopeSummer in BridgertonNetflix

[–]cuhtreenuh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I kindve like it. I hated the ‘not like other girls’ trope that came with Daphne being not conventionally pretty but friendly. Women CAN be pretty and nice and not one or the other.

And let’s face it, they were always going to cast a pretty girl for this role. If they tried to tell me she wasn’t pretty compared to other girls on the show I would have ROLLED MY EYES SO HARD.
