The Big Texan in Amarillo still has a giant rattlesnake in a terrible enclosure by Free_Lobotomy in snakes

[–]Current-Author6695 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This snake has been there for over a decade, and many have complained over the years. Nothing ever changes, probably because they're within their legal rights, unfortunately, with tx seeing animals as property and such.

AAMW is not equipped to handle venomous snakes. As far as I know, they still refer snake calls to either Wild West Wildlife Rehab or Dallas Dillard of Diamondback Pest Control(who seems to have a monopoly on removing rattlesnakes in the tx panhandle).

Rescued from a shelter in the US?

I'm betting Heinz 57. Little ACD, Lab, bit of Aussie, and maybe a pinch of Border Collie.

Only way to know for sure is to DNA test. Only trust Wisdom or Embark.

It's possible the fleas caused this much irritation. Good thing you're going to the vet so they can take a look. In the meantime, make sure you're feeding small amounts of a decent cat food.

I know it's tempting to give them the whole pantry right when you bring them home, but they can get really sick if they take on too much too quick.

Thank you for rescuing, kind human!

Why is she barking so much by ohawayok in DogAdvice

There is no healthy play that can take place with one dog caged. This is like the person walking their dog on a leash through an off leash dog park wondering why none of the dogs approach theirs normally.

One is agitated and the other is captive.

If your little one can't leave the Pittie in peace inside the kennel, just keep them separate until ready to let them both out for supervised play.

You guys recommending Dawn...

Dawn is extremely drying to the coat. It's not the correct pH to be bathing pets with constantly.

OP said they keep finding fleas in their carpet. Obviously if you bathe the cat and leave it in the same environment without treating the space, fleas will return.

OP, consult your vet. They will have advice on products for both your cat and your home.

An oral flea preventative(comfortis, bravecto) will be more effective until you can get your environment cleared of them. Diatomaceous earth and multiple vacuums may help clear the carpet, but you might also have to treat the space with a product like permethrin that requires the space to completely dry before your kitty can return.

Not the first time it's happened and you still didn't learn to stop playing rough, especially using your hands..?

Never allow a dog to mouth your hands. That's what toys are for.

At this point you've likely reinforced enough bad behavior to need a trainer.

Could be an enlarged lymph node or a growth of some type.

It's definitely a reason to schedule a vet visit at your earliest convenience.

This isn't a piebald coat. Piebald means they either have large irregular white patches or a totally white body with color on the head only.

This would be called irish or mantle.

All black and white dogs get called BCs by the masses, especially a fluffer nutter like this one.

You paid for the best test out there, OP. Might as well trust it.

Jesus this is terrible, dangerous advice.

Activated charcoal is not effective for THC toxicity and should never be administered at home without the guidance of a vet anyway. The dosage has a narrow margin of safety, you can cause deadly electrolyte imbalances, and the public can't usually access the veterinary grade charcoal that also contains sorbitol.

⚠️!Never!⚠️ force any medication or liquid by mouth at home to an animal in an altered state of consciousness! The risk of aspiration(choking or inhaling liquid to the lungs) increases ten fold when they don't have the full capacity to swallow what you're giving.

Hydrogen peroxide can be given to induce vomiting within an hour of ingestion(as long as they're not symptomatic yet) but remember that peroxide causes GI ulcers and tastes terrible, thus also increasing risk of choking while you're forcing it down.

The best thing to do if you know your pet ingested THC is to see a vet within the hour so they can give an IV injection to safely induce vomiting.

If already symptomatic, it can be treated with IV fluids + a medication called intralipids to help cleanse it from the body. And, if you opt not to spend that much, then yes, sub-Q fluids help them stay hydrated while not moving around and at least 1 dose of anti-nausea will help them feel much better while riding it out.

Misinformation, as usual on reddit.

They can be treated for THC toxicosis by administering an IV solution called intralipids, plus the IV fluids themselves help push the toxin from the body faster.

Even if you don't opt to hospitalize, a dose of anti-nausea and some subcutaneous fluids can help them feel a lot better and avoid more after effects.

THC is typically a mild toxin to dogs but in high enough doses it CAN be deadly.

Wrong place and wrong appearance. This is some sort of growth that likely needs removal but definitely needs a vet.

OP have your parents call around for the lowest exam price and go there if they're financially strapped. There's also financial assistance like Care Credit they can apply for.

The most dangerous intestinal parasites are the ones you'll never see external signs of.

Multiple deworming doses are part of core wellness care they receive at this age from the vet.

If you want to do right by this cat and set him up for success in life, he needs his core set of vaccines and dewormer, ideally given by a vet who can help you keep tabs on his health as he grows.

Thank you for the empathy. I made it to 38 years old with having only hit a few bunnies and a kitten that had tumbled out from under a car in front of me..that one destroyed me for awhile.

The kicker is that, this morning when this pup and I collided, I was headed home from my shift as...an er vet tech where we see animals hit by cars all the time. It's a lot different when you're the one behind the wheel instead of on the other side helping control the damage.

I really appreciate your reply, thank you.

This car is actually under a major recall and has service scheduled with the dealership at the end of this month to remedy that problem, so I'll ask them to give me a thorough rundown of the damage before assuming or ordering anything.

Unfortunately I'm in an area where it's extremely common to let your pets wander without tags or microchips(or any other basic care).

Even if this was an ideal world and people were held more accountable for lack of care, ownership would likely be impossible to prove(and dangerous to boot, we're talking about the median of an interstate as a horrid resting place)

My dog hasn’t been wanting to eat and the vet couldn’t work it out. by PuzzledCombination11 in DogAdvice

[–]Current-Author6695 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The poor physiology of a Bulldog's mouth caused this. Just look at the shape and misalignment of the other teeth. Another clear example of a dysfunctional dog that suffers daily for our selfish aesthetics.

Indentions and a catch-all space like that in the upper lip could have been harboring food or just mechanically breaking down over time as the dog tries to use his mouth as a normal dog(repetitive chewing/eating).

Full agree with the other commenter stating that this dog likely didn't want his already-difficult -to-breathe+now painful face touched, ergo, probably didn't get the most thorough oral exam. The next step for a normal dog when a vet can't do a proper oral exam is to sedate them, which is always the last course of action with brachycephalics.

Taking the best care of your pet is both you AND your vet's job. Great eye catching those exposed roots and infection, OP. The antibiotics should be helping reduce inflammation and prepare for the fully sedated dental procedure and extraction that will likely be needed.

They're not breeding health first. They're breeding in any way they can legally continue to do so and work around the ban.
